grrr, ok so HOMM2 tactics no longer work...

ok, i realize now that doing nothing but build up your castles doesnt work, as you wont have teh resources to build up a fighting force, so how do i balence building up creature dwellings and buying creatures? i prefure to use either the tower castle, because of the magi and titans, or the crultfix castle, with all the elementals.
some opinions and fighting wisdom is much wanted.

I always buy a creature dwelling on day 7 of the first week and try and get my castle before then also.  (provided there's enough resources, which there should be).  I used to go striaght for my capitol, but now I like to bring in some more creatures for the first week and to get a quick start on army.

Try hiring another hero like yours, and give his creatures to your main hero. In the first week, you should build at least lvl 3 or 4 units...

If it is a large map with many places to go then don't be afraid to buy more heroes than you usually would to get the map explored faster.  It will pay off.  Also, having your castle built fast is good for more creatures next week and town defense in case of an unexpected siege atack.

well, what i've been doing is buying 3 heros(usually, so i have 4), with one being 'the one'. then i tend to just build up teh castle dwellings,, so i've got my lv 7 creatures, but no money to buy them when the enemy comes knocking.the extra heros help alot when it comes to wondering around and getting all the scatered resources and repeating money and resource buildings.
but unless i'm getting like 20K gold a day, money gets too tight

I'll say I'm a noob for online playing, but I've been playing HOMM III for going on six years now... that's a lot longer than most.  I know the game very well and I have almost all the stats of the creatures and the costs of buildings, etc memorized.  I'm just saying what works for me.  I just don't like being called a noob at the game when I've been playing so long.  I don't mean to be so touchy though.

But Woock... I am good at the game.  Better than all my friends.  I've been obssessed with this game forever.  I just got kind of offended, because they were assuming I'm crappy at playing.  It's just annoying because I've worked so hard to become a master at this game, atleast on AI, and then they go and say things like that.  I just don't like stereotypes.  I don't do it to others, so it should work both ways.  I can see where they're coming from however...

You beat all your friends. Big deal, so your friends suck at the game more than you (I'm not saying I'm any good though). The point is, you say you're good. I say you're good enough to beat the AI. There's a difference. Go to the Zone and test your skills

I'll have to agree that I have a lot of friends that play, but most of them are crap.  But some of them have been playing as long as me, and one them does a lot of net time (I don't know about anymore but...)  It's probably true, I'm not as good as most HC members, but just because I'm new to the community doesn't mean I'm new to the game.  And I mean, was there anything wrong with the advise I was giving?  I wasn't saying he had to take, he was just curious, so I was giving my input.  I should hope I have the right to do that.  Anyways, I hope to be part of the noob tourney... and with that said, I suppose I am a noob.  But can I not be judged so much?

First of all, i have been the "N00B" and probably still am, but now these.. discussions amuse me..

It's like saying "I make 3 million a year, so you are all poor cuz you make less than me"

Thats your logic. Go touch yourselves.

Rage don't let them get to you, just because at some point(I'm hoping theive stopped playing it constantly) devoted their lives to the game. Which really must hurt them reading this. You can say "I only play it 10 mins a day, and when i played it at the most it was a max of 20 mins per day" all you want, but it's *** ***** **** ****** *** *** ***** **** **** ****** *** *** ** * * **** * ***** *** *** *** *** *** *** *** *** ****** *** *** ** * * **** * ***** *** *** *** *** *** *** *** *** ****** *** *** ** * * **** * ***** *** *** *** *** *** *** *** *** ****************** ****** *** *** ** * * **** * ***** *** *** *** *** *** *** *** ***.

So just relax. Give what advice you may have and see if people can use it, if not you've done what you can. When people start calling you names because its their way of saying "HA, I'M BEST" just snort and laugh, because they really must have a really low self esteem, having to namecall people about a game, especially when you can't admit that your crossing a line.

Rage, just continue the game as you have earlier, as long as you enjoy the game it's ok. My best advice is play as you like, and have a good time.

Anti Flame: I'm not saying that i don't use a lot of time on my comp, i'm not saying that becuz your a pro doesn't mean you aren't having fun. I'm not saying i can beat you, cuz i suck.

This is the kinda advice they are talking about. You wont win an online game against a decent player with this tactic. You should not buy one creature dwelling and castle first week, your goal is usually lvl1-6 dwellings and castle, sometimes even lvl7 dwell week 1.

If you do not realise you have trained on the wrong stuff when playing the AI, you will never realise you will have to do other things to play this game good.

I've only seen ONE guy that came straight from playing the AI to kicking the butts of the best heroes players online, and the only reason he managed that were because he had trained on the correct things offline. I know from the advise you have given that you have not. But if you sit down, and read some advises, for example try out some of the toh templates and playing with these "correct" strategies I am sure you will improve alot.

You already know the game well, you just need to learn how to use the knowledge I advice you to try templates like Panic or balance as custom templates.. see if you can get all the dwells I were talking about, 1-6 and castle week 1 playing for example rampart. If you cant, then your chaining skills needs improvement. Chaining week 1 is the key to really clear your area week 1. Can you reach dragons week 1? then you are good at the game Imagine what 2 dragons can take with rampart week2

Plan your turns, dont move the heroes around like a blind man looking for food in the freezer. You will soon understand that planning is the key to always have a good chain of heroes.

Try an online game now, realise your loss and then go back offline and train on the stuff stated here. I'm far from a good player online, but I'm sure this advice is leading you on the correct path. After the training try an online game once more. Did the game work out better for ya?

There are also other things that you can only learn after hundred or more online games, by that I mean learning to fool the opponent, this is often the key to winning the game.

What else, ya, try to get a game with one of the very best online, check the rankings page to see who are the best. Save every day, you will get shocked by all the stuff they have managed to done in so little time. And you will certainly have problems understanding how he could take ya end week 3 with 3 aas, 10 champs and the rest of the army

My last advice would be, read, play, learn. Take the advice given here, instead of beeing so sure you do the right stuff. Every decent player online knows that the advice you posted above surely is not the right stuff

Hope the post helped, good luck

Regards

This is wrong i think...uni+castle is better than dragons without citadel! Calculate how much health you will lost if build dragons week 1.

There are 2 types of new players joining this community. Why do you think some people manage to get through this noob period?

Stay cool, this is another pointless conversation

True.

But still itīs important HOW you tell someone that he is probably wrong with his opinion.
Compare your explanation on the first site with the way some other user does it on both sites.....and i donīt referr to Stiven here....

So i still think, they way new members get talked to decides if they stay or leave. With your way, Lordlazy, they will surely stay.....with the other way, they will leave.

So if someone doesnīt have the patience or the attitudes to be helpfull in a "normal" way of talking, he should better NOT answer these "nOOb-questions" and stay in the background...and not trying to play "vet" here...

Just my 2 cents....

It's good that everyone has there opinions but if I could get on topic and mention that not many maps (no matter how many heroes you make and how "strategically" you get them exploring) you will most likely not be able to get dragons in first week and be able to pay for them and get your capitol happening.  Not to mention that your castle isn't even built yet so you aren't producing much of anything per week.  And that's if your on a map that even lets you get close to pulling off this strategy.  I'd like someone to, next time they're able to get dragons in the first week, maybe post exactly what they did to be able to achieve Lv7 in first week and still have enough money for everything, because I would actually like to learn how this is done.  I'm going to admit that I'm a bit noobish to on net playing for HOMM III, so that maybe I can adopt some of the pros ways of playing.  After all this community's about learning.

It's usually more than possible to do. But dragons first week is often a bad choice. Better to go for unicorns and castle. Capitol is not build that often at all.

I strongly suspect you are playing on a high difficulty. hence your observations.

Poor campaign maps at 200% all the way! No wonder the shock is so big from playing solo to playing online, the gameplay is totally different. Even a random map at 130 makes strategies change totally and I don't play them often at all, and then some of the maps being played online are even richer. I still haven't played online and if I do I know there's much I need to change and lots of mistakes to be made, but as long as you can learn and not defend bad strategies it's all good.

The noob tournament sounds like fun, but can probably not join it due to time constraints. Will start to look for some friendly competition in the future so I too can get my ass kicked once the computer becomes boring again.

I know it's often possible to get Lv7 in first week.  Behemoths are simple (wolves, rocs, then behemoths) and if your wolves are already built then its nothing.  And I can usually get angels in first week on hard diffulty, but not usually expert... I usually just lack resources by a tiny bit.  But I was talking about dragons in first week.  That's hard.  Plus, like I said, no castle or even town hall built.  Anyways, I also find the wyverns built right away is pretty good for fortress and if you want to demon farm then it's best to get atleast your pits and castle built first week.  But I'd still like to hear other peoples strategy.  It's interesting to see how different people play.  Plus, I'm willing to try new things.
