I really feel like you don't take me seriously when I say someone deserves a QP simply because in the past I gave out so many. But most of my QPs are ones that have been earned months ago. TitaniumAlloy was spending a lot of time in this forum and deserved a QP and never received one. He even put in a lot of effort to start a new RP.

You say substantial effort deserves a QP, there's substantial effort. I really don't think my judgement is being QP happy. Another thing that bothers me is all the good posting and effort that was put into Height of the Guild in the month of October. Though I am glad that Dragon Slayer gave Gorman a well-deserved QP, I honestly felt that members like Shadowcaster and TitaniumAlloy (yes I'm being reduntant about him) were ignored. They put much effort into the thread.

I'll keep my mouth shut about this now to keep from beating a dead horse, because seriously what kind of freaks beat on dead animals?

My take...

To be fair to the Glade mods, it is tough to figure out where to draw the line when giving out QPs simply because this forum is so different in nature than any of the others. Roleplaying must be judged on different merits than posts such as those in the Tavern or Other Side which involve saying more what you feel about certain subjects rather than what you hope to contribute in terms of plot and character development and the like. Both MM and DS are relatively new mods, and with the grades of contribution so different in the Glade, it is undoubtedly tough for them to judge what is QP-worthy in their eyes without the examples of other forums to draw upon.

I personally think that QPs should not be given so freely as they have been in the past. Even recently, I've had two chucked at me at once from out of nowhere. One, I was expecting, the other I was not and was surprised to earn, in fact, I was quite caught off-guard by it. The most common QPs will, of course, be those within those RPs themselves, and are usually given when someone shows some bit of improvement, or in some extreme cases, one good post. This I do not like, but it is up to the moderator whether or not such an honor should be handed out, and I'm sure the mods wouldn't enjoy drafting a list of explanations to appease every member that disagrees with him or her. That is why we have mods, and as long as they do their job and mod their respective forums as best they know how, their opinions should be respected.

Also, consistent high-quality at times might exponentially raise the amount of QPs awarded when that number should only go up a bit. The bar rises when a general hike in quality posts occurs, and higher merit must be awarded to posts that are deemed QP-worthy when that does happen. They would be more difficult to earn, but there are those that would work that much harder to gain them who would put in more to the vitality of the Glade by doing so. Assigning too many QPs would spoil some, leveling them off as they see every ten posts of theirs or so pull in a QP. Meanwhile, those not receiving QPs would complain and grow disinterested, as they'd feel that their work was inadequate, or worse, being ignored as others rake in the praise of a moderator's star time and time again. Granted, such a situation is highly hypothetical, but is still rather likely, as  I've seen watered-down versions of both in times of QP flood and drought in this forum.

A good balance should be found, but I think that you moderators should judge that yourselves, only leaning on the decisions of the members when you both are either too unsure or busy to judge in the fairest way possible. There is no objective quality, and that's why it's up to you to define it for us in this forum. Disagreeance with a QP tactic should only be taken to heart if you feel there is some reason to disagree. After all, if HC were a true democracy, I doubt it'd have lasted this long.

Well, you both make good points and no offence to RSF in any way but I have to say that I agree with Shadow more.
If I called RSF qp happy I didn't mean it in a bad way, just a point to illustrate how many you gave out and so easilly.  Not that I'm unthankful in any way considering you gave me two but I just cannot imagine literally giving them away wheather they were good posts or not.  Anyone who thinks about it can post well.  I bet even Deimos has the ability to manufacture a good post if he'd try.
I have given out a couple of qp's though just so you don't think I'm hoarding them all.  When I see somthing that I feel is seriously worth it you can expect a shiny red star.

QPs are a powerful tool to get people interested in the forum. To be honest, giving QPs to members I think are putting in effort consistantly, is well worth it. This is truly the ultimate goal of what Glade really needs. Supplying this is hard to come by especially during times of inactivity. I really don't see what's wrong with awarding QPs to members that are keeping the forum active or pulling the forum out of a dead streak.

It's not giving them away. The motivation to post for desire of QPs is quite strong. The concept of X number of high quality posts is clear and evident. And anything that motivates people to post more often and keep that quality up is good for the forum. But another thing I should think is important to explain. X number of good posts in a short period of time is what deserved a QP. So a semi-active member who posts for a long time isn't gonna get that many QPs. The very active member will get QPs if their posts are consistant and good. So to say I gave a lot of QPs, you forget that for a while people were posting once or twice a day and their posts were certainly improving all this time as well.

Really the foremost goal as mod, at least for me, was trying to make Glade the best forum it could possibly be. To have numerous active RPs that tons of people came to post in everyday. Of course enforcing the COC supercedes that.

But if you talk to Djive, he does the same thing in Altar and it worked. People really did get into posting there. He rewarded consistant effort put into the forum. If someone wants to pour lots of effort into improving the forum, they deserve QPs for it. So to say not rewarding members who are substantially active and at a high quality with QPs, isn't fully utilizing the tools that mods can use to make the forum better. QPs are great for motivating members to continue their much needed efforts. My philosophy really isn't to worry about we are giving out too many QPs. I'm pretty sure I gave a few I shouldn't have, but in general I think they were fine. But it doesn't really matter anymore about the QPs at least in terms of my philosophy. The QP really needs to be given immediately in order for it to have the desired result, which is basically a reinforcement of a sense of accomplishment and enjoyment in posting in Glade. The result will definitely help create a member who is eager and wants to post more.

I do think that RSF deserves a QP for his award-winning HotG thread, though. I'm actually quite surprised he has not earned one there yet.

I remember when MightyMage said a while ago that you get what you put into an RP. That if you find a way to connect yourself to the story you'll enjoy it a lot.

I think that right now people aren't doing it the way they used to. Granted the members that were doing it are busier and we have some new members.

We have 3 RPs that are the hub of Glade right now. Tanaran, Height of the Guild, and Let's Have War.

Let's Have War needs a thread summary for starters, so we can get a couple new members involved and to clear up the past confusion. But what we really need is for people to put some effort into defining the motives of the Forsaken Ones. I think it would be much like the style that used to be in LHW back when it was cranking out a page every two or three days.

Tanaran needs updates a bit quicker.

Height of the Guild needs a bit more cohesiveness. The ideas will come more freely when the situations we create are more connected to each other. I see some bright spots though in the thread. There's some potential there as there always has been. I just think that we need a bit more collaboration to put things together a bit better. A couple people doing a nice job in that thread with the cohesiveness is Asmodean and Ghasketh. There posts have been the glue of the thread. Good job.

Edit: I am willing to help with all of these things.

I'm sure some of you may or may not have noticed that I have not been here for about a week.  My computer finally flipped me the finger and refused to load windows or continue startup for that matter.  I took it in and just got it back yesterday.  I'll look through all the stuff I missed and do some mod sruff.  So don't yell at me or nothin.

I agree. TitaniumAlloy has contributed much to several RPs since he's made his way over to the Glade, and has become one of the more active posters in the past months. QP applied.

I was going to wait untill Tanaran started up again before i gave out qps. Many people were close to earning and some had already earned some, it wouldnt be fair to people who were almost there.
