Quality Point Idea.

First, i actually got this idea from one of Consis's posts.

There has been some talk about qp giving, from non-mods. The idea is that you can sacrifice QPs, you lose on yourself and someone else gains a QP, although you have to have more than 0 QP's to do this, and you can only do it every two weeks. This will give people the right to give QP's, and really think about it before they give qps away(preventing spammed QPs)..

Hmm,

I like the idea. But the problem is that I don't think Valeriy does.

I always offer my own qp's(even though I know it doesn't matter) to show that I am serious about the posts that I think are worthy. Some people might try to accuse me of being a suck-up or looking to gain favor with other members by doing this. So If I lose a qp of my own to support someone else's then I cannot be accused of trying to gain favor with other members. I feel that some of my qp's are not as good as the ones I've tried to support from other members.

Sir_Stiven, Angelito, and Svarog have brilliant posts that have never received a qp. I feel it is a great disservice to the quality of those posts, and to the members of the community who like to search for quality post reading(myself included).

Well it isn't like you can Spam Qps everywhere, if you want to sacrifice one of your own, there must be some idea behind it, it'll make you think long and hard about it. IMHO it's the best Quality point idea i've heard.

Hmmm....

That is a very good point you've noticed so far. I read Consis's posts very often and I saw he is willing to give out his OWN qps for some threads. No wonder, he creates many threads in TT [ Turban Tribunal ] to fetch somebody a QP for an awesome idea.

I (me, the QP-lover!) wanted to give out my QPs earlier (when I left HC for a while). It was impossible. It would have been good to do this then (not NOW)

Though I have to agree that Val will object this (unless we force him - j/k) at any case.

P.S. Good work for noticing this, RD

as long as they are given to quality posts and not like you give all your QP:s to your best friend if you think of retiring im favor for the idea aswell.

But i think a maximum of 2 given stars or just one to one member should be a condition if this idea is to take place with the reason as mentioned above.

nice idea.

Important Details To Consider

First and foremost, what would it say about this community when the quality of the posts that receive qp's has every bit as much support from the community? In short, when a quality post is read then one could say 'the people have spoken'.

I think that member/community support of a Quality post would make these posts all the more valuable and representative of the kind of community that Valeriy has created. He is the creator and we the members are the face of his creation. Both are needed to make this community what it is today.

How often do you hear people visiting this place saying how pleasant it is? I'd say fairly often.

I also think that this community could better become more involved with its own highest quality posts. The individual receives the red star and increased quality count, but the community benefits from the quality as a whole. I think people can be all the more proud of the kind of community they choose to be associated with by visiting here. And that would seem to, a great thing indeed.

Heroes Community is more than a message board to me. To me it is a place of comfort and sharing. It is also a place of laughter and friendship, sadness and reconciliation, and openness and education. Think of how much more proud we could be by taking a bit more active involvment in our own quaint little international tavern. This is, after all, a place where people from all over the world come to talk, listen, and participate.

If this idea were to actually take flight, then I would say there needs to be some serious consideration for a well-planned democratic setup.

If someone wants to give up a quality of their own to add to another person's post then I'd say the two posts in question would need to fall under a looking glass(magnifying) to compare quality.

Once the two post are put together to be compared, I think two seperate votes should take place. One vote from the members('popular vote') and another vote from the moderators('electoral'). Valeriy('mage of the land') will have ultimate veto authority because its his forum.

I think that once the votes have been tallied, the results should be as follows:

1. Valeriy pops in and auto-approves = approved

2. Mods agree to switch = approved
---a. if Mod vote becomes a tie, then decision passed down to member vote.

3. Members agree to switch = up for mod/Valeriy approval
---a. if the members agree then the mods should take no longer than 1 week to decide. If time expires, the vote should be approved unless otherwise negated by Valeriy.

If mod vote does not match the member vote, then the majority(%percentage) must overcome the opposing vote.
For example: Mods vote in favor/or against by a 60% majority. Opposing member vote must win by at least 61% to negate the opposing mod vote.

I kind of like the Consis idea.  But only if it's not used everytime a QP is awarded, that would just take time and make a mess.  There would have to be a time limit for voting too.  We wouldn't be able to sit around for ever.

Wolfman,

I agree. I say let the Moderators do the job the always do. Secondary to this, a proposal can be submitted at any time by anyone. Once a thread or post has been designated for the time to vote, I propose a 1 week time limit. After 1 week results are final, then a 1 week time limit is given to the appropriate moderator to make the necessary modifications. All will be subject to approval by Valeriy of course.

I feel this gives quality posts more value. When something someone has written has the support of the members of the community to which it was written, I feel this increases the value. More valuable posts/threads means a more valuable community. This would be a great thing to me.

Otherwise, you might never hear the end of it from those few enthusiastic members. Myself included of course. When it's done and said, then everyone can rest easy knowing that the people have spoken. If this isn't done then some members, who have very strong convictions/opinions, might feel they are being ignored. A vote gives everyone a chance to be heard.
