Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas

Hey guys some of you may have noticed my absence from HC for a while, this has resulted from my obsession of one of the best PS2 games I have ever played, and I am of course talking about the legendary Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas. I purchased this game the day it was released (Actually day before since they released it early for pre-orders) and I have spent all my free time on it. However lately I have been limited due to exams; finally I¡¦m on holidays and free to play the game when ever I want.

Lets just begin by saying this is easily the best Grand Theft Auto game ever. Easily. It is almost perfect in every way, and would be one of the best games on the market, easily destroying Halo 2. Now I may cop some flack for this remark, but I have spent an extensive amount of time playing Halo 2 (about 20 mins j/k) and although the release hype was very much similar, Halo 2 cannot compare to GTA:SA. Now some of youse may think I¡¦m just a GTA fan boy, but that¡¦s not it, unless you have played both games you wont understand, and if you have and don¡¦t agree with me, then lets just say we have differing opinions .

The game is much larger then Vice City, both in content and map size. So there is more to do, more original content, and new and improved cars to drive. The cars actually look like the real thing, even if the graphics aren¡¦t fully up to scratch, and there are so many different vehicles.

There are many elements in the game I adore, none more than character customisation. You can decide how your character will look, hair style, size, muscles, clothes, jewellery etc. This element is totally new, and very exciting. I notice myself looking at screenshots and friend¡¦s games checking what CJ is wearing and what different clothes items would look like on my CJ. Also I love that you can swim! This element brings a whole new dimension to the GTA series, one that is very cool! Swimming around and diving underwater are instrumental to escaping cops or any body that could be chasing you and it is fun to swim around and interact with the environment, be it dolphins, sharks or fish.

There are many side quests, and many fun activities. You can play pool or basketball, go to the betting shop and lay wagers on horses, and many other fun stuff. Personally I like to provoke the cops, and see how many I can kill or race around the city with. It is fun to interact with the pedestrians around you, and CJ can ¡¥pick up¡¦ girls when his sex appeal is high enough. The weapons in the game include the regulars, but also a few new ones like my favourite, the heat seeking missile. There is nothing more funnier then watching a car trying to avoid a missile by turning the corner or something, and then you hear the explosion where the missile met its target ƒº. Also I love how when you accidentally crash into some ones car on the road, they get out and proceed to hit your car with a shovel, and then after they have damaged it, pull you out and try and hurt you. Usually I pull out my dual sawn off shotguns, which sends them running in fear.

This game is my favourite and one of the best games out at the moment. Any one who has a PS2 and doesn¡¦t have this game I recommend buying it¡K soon! Everything has basically been revamped, and there are so many new features. If you want a game that isn¡¦t going to be easily completed with lots of fun challenges and exciting game play, this is the game for you!

It is a great game, I agree. My good friend has it and he let me borrow it for a few days, great fun.

Although right now I'm stuck on Halo 2 playing on Heroic, IMO the ultimate gaming experience. I prefer FPSs, and right now I'm having trouble keeping up with the game. I'm really busy but I've also been playing Unreal Tournament.

But I'm going to get this game on XBOX once it comes out because frankly I like my XBOX alot more than my PS2

Grand Theft what?

I feel silly here, but I have never played a single game of GTA on any system? Not the original, #2, #3, or Vice City! I have always owned a CPU and have had a PS2 for 2 years now, and yet, I have never felt the urge to pick up any version of GTA...seriously!

I have to tell you though, that from reading Posts like yours' and reviews on IGN, I don't think I can put it off any longer! I am finally going to play Grand Theft Auto!

But where do I start? In your opinions, should I start at the beginning or should I jump straight to San Andreas? I have no idea what's best or even how the game is played. I'm the same way with book Trilogies that have a Prequel written afterwards. "Do you start with the Prequel or finish with it?"

I have played lots of on-line multiplayer Halo 2 (but my friend took back his Xbox), so I look forward to making some comparisons...if I can. Please get back to me with your advice...Thanks!

(P.S. I haven't even played any versions of Final Fantasy on PS1 or PS2 either...Ouch)

u havent played a gta game b4?? unbelievable its like one of the best series eva!! I have every single game except some special one called GTA: London 1969, and i dont think they sold it here neway.

In my opinion, buy san andreas. The GTA series is made so dat it doesnt matter which game u play, they dont continue, they just keep gettin better and better! I enjoy all the games.. but the newest r definitly the better ones.. vice city is awesome too, i would get dat, but i garentee buying them is money well spent!

San Andreas it is then...

Thanks D-T...I will let you know when I buy the game and if I enjoy playing it too. Do you consider the previous installments of GTA worth my while, since they don't inter-connect? Is Vice City good enough to go out & buy or should I only rent it? Should I even bother with GTA 1, 2, or 3??? Please let me kow...Thanks in advance!

Trust me the series is worth every cent i have spent on it.. i love GTA!

Just rent Vice City?? rent it to see wot its like, but if u like the GTA series, then you will love VC.. Vice city doesnt have all the new features san andreas brings to the series, but it is still worth it.. get the double pack with gta 3, trust me its worth it..

the early gta games r fun.. but might be a bit old to start playing now and trying to complete. i still play them, just not very often.

I look forward to hearing ur opinion on the game!

yes it is a very fun game to play. I enjoyed finishing it, and found most of the content enjoyable. However i believe they could have simplified the game, and i found that many smaller details were often conplex to complete. Therefore reflecting back, i still have to hand my favourite game of all time to GTA: VC that is simple, yet fun, and i still play it now, much more then GTA: SA. If your a fan of San Andreas, you will love vice city.

Didn't play it, but having watched over my brother's shoulder, I can say that this time, Rockstar simply screwed up the ending.

I've got it on XBOX.. the ending is kinda weird. The only thing I really like is going on rampages and taking gang territory. The extreme homieness of it gets to me, in places its just over the top.

They're like "Yo, you lost yo' skillz man!!" When you're riding a bike. I mean it's just unnecessary.

This might sound strange, but is it possible for a game to have too many features??

This is what i truly believe stopped San Andreas becoming one of the greatest games ever. While trying to develop a game, which is both vibrant and exciting for gamers, they had features they were just not plain necessary for a game, especially of its calibre.

One thing what irritates me in this game is that you really can´t keep your car undamaged. Especially in main roads and motorways the AI cars changing the lanes and the lack of indicators in cars p***es me off..

I'm Sick.

Why do you people like to play San Andreas? Vice City is way better, according to all of the game critics.

San Andreas has no story!!!

The story is:
A guy comes back to California, hears his mom is dead, get and gets all hyper and does gangster stuff. Basically, the story is Yo, lets be a gangster, dowg! Even the mission are horrible, especially in the beggining, where you have to bike away from the enemy, you have to spraypaint your Logo over other gangs logo's, and in one mission you just gotta do a drive-by.

But, it's not Rockstar's fault, it's ours, with the new generation where all the teenagers are acting like gangsters, they knew that if the game was gangster-based they'd be more succesful.

What is happing to this world?
