Every time I try to make him sit in my lap so we can have a picture taken he keeps wanting to climb on me.
But he doesn't mind being photographed otherwise:

We had to put our 9 year old german shepherd to sleep today, the vets couldn't save him.
The cause of it is unclear, several theories: poisoning, a virus or a tumor. they couldn't figure out, which one. The dog got water in his lungs and stuff.
He was a good friend.

I buried my dog myself too. way better than some utilization plant or something.
the backdrop for me is that my blood pressure and back aches will skyrocket in the next few days.
But hey, it was my friend, so totally worth it.
I'm pretty sure my dog was poisoned, since just a few weeks ago he was in top shape.

I think it was the typical injection stuff, I didn't see it, the vets wouldn't allowed us to stay there.

My grandpa had a dog he called Regina (or Queen) and it's been around his place ever since he built his new house (more than a decade). He was very attached to it, tho he had to keep it on a leash most of the time, but whenever he was not busy and feeling in a good mood he let it lose to run around the house. Heh, I remember we came visiting one time and it totally bit my hand to pieces. But anyway, one day he let it lose around the neighborhood as usual and it came back after a while limping, with its jaw ripped, wounds and bruises all over. Some vagabond mutts. He paid for hospitalization hoping for a recovery but there was nothing more to be done so he brought it back home. He called a friend of his he's been going hunting with, covered the poor thing, shot it dead and buried it in a place only he knows. I didn't ever see my grandpa shedding tears save for that moment.
So what I'm trying to say is that even tho I can't relate much to things like this, I can understand it if you're feeling the loss, so have my condolences.

yeah, it's not easy coming to such a decision.
And today was supposedly we start the thorough treatment for our dog. instead we got what we got.
Now I'm sitting with an axe and a can of pepperspray near me, prolly will tay up the night since we saw the suspects that maybe poisoned our dog, slow down today by our home. A jewshooter descended horsethief and her hobo lackey.

When I first temporarily moved into the family summer house in Ayvalik, searching for a place to move in, I was so afraid that Tavshan would run to the road, she had always been an indoor cat and the yard here is not one that you can just lock a gate and all would be fine. So for weeks, I watched her like a hawk. It would have been cruel to keep her locked in, in a place like this. I just couldnt believe how happy she was, chasing all kind of bugs or frogs, climbing trees, guarding "her ground" against the strays. In Istanbul, she was just living along with me, in here, she was so herself, so meant to be just what she was born to be: https://streamable.com/azrvv
Months passed. She never once crossed those bars and went out. I used to go out to take out the garbage, she used to follow me right up until the gate, but then she would stop right on that line as if there was an invisible border. I was so happy for her. She was free and safe! And I got sloppy. I stopped watching out, she never crossed the border anyway. But one day she did. I dont know why she did but that's all it took. A car hit her. I play it through my head, what could I have done differently? Every morning when she noticed I woke up, she used to run for the door, it would be really like a punishment to keep her indoors all the time. So what could I do differently?
In these two years when I faced severe depression because of my break up, she kept me company like no one else could and she was such a stupid, innocent child. I never felt attached to any of my dogs like I did to her, she was so herself all the time. I loved you Tavshan. I will remember you as long as I live. I hope your brief time in this world was as joyful as it looked.

It's a harsh decision, let them enjoy freedom -in a world we did all for putting them in great danger at every moment- or keep them in warm home, daily food and a cool place to sleep. I buried 4 own cats -all killed by cars- over the last 10 years, and I had deep bounds with each of them, it is always heartbreaking when a soul you love is prematurely gone.
Do they have the instinct pushing them to explore outside? Definitely. Are they unhappy if you don't allow them to do so, but instead care about their security and offer a safe space, with all the care they need? It seems not, so from now my choice is taken.

Poor thing, looked so adorable too. My condolences.
Each of my cats has fallen from the third floor(plus semi-floor) which had terrified us. We didn't want to keep them from accessing the balcony where they can see some green and get some fresh air but they had this urge to climb the fence and walk on top of it. I do not doubt that a cat will land safely even from that height but the ground below is uneven and hard. After the second fall(and some injuries that healed) we placed on the fence some sort of plastic net to make the it look taller, hoping they wouldn't try to jump on top of it only to realize that it cannot hold their weight. We'd heard similar stories but thankfully they gave up trying to get up there. Sadly, by the time we put up the net, we'd already lost a kitten that my sister had picked up from the street A beautiful kitten that almost looked like a bengal. My mother saw it slipping but wasn't close enough to catch it in time.

Cats are wonderful. I lost my last one to the outdoors. I remember how I could say his name over and over and he'd start rolling on his back and meowing.
