Library Feedback

Hello fellow library worms!

Since we now have moderating hand in the library, it is only logical to create what I would like to be a feedback thread.

Please do not spam in this thread. All off-topic posts will be considered spam in this thread, and will be removed as angelito has been doing very well. If it's not a complaint or feedback, then it's off-topic. If you disagree with a complaint or feedback, then go ahead and post it; it's still on-topic.

This is where you file complaints or just input for Library specific things. This is also the place to help clean the forum. If you think that a thread is full of spam or fighting, then just mention it here. If you think a thread should be moved to another forum, then post it here. DO NOT POST IT IN THE THREAD THAT SHOULD BE MOVED. That only makes the thread messy. If you think someone should get a QP, you can post it here as well.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

This thread is a great opportunity to help make this forum the best it can be, the moderators aren't all-knowing and the more you help them - the more they can help you

If you don't feel comfortable posting it here for all to see, then just send the mods an IM

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Thanks and I hope you enjoy your stay in the Library!

Regarding Any Profession Or Walk Of Life

I think if a person wants to act like he/she is better than someone else then they should be free to do so. It only makes them appear more unworthy of the title they claim to hold over the people they are talking down to.

I am a long-time game player so I've heard people called or referred to as a new player or 'noob'. It really doesn't bother me because when I hear such nonsense I am led to wonder why a verbally abusive phrase or word is going to somehow improve the person's skills. Frankly, it won't. Calling someone names because of their questions seems entirely close-minded and seems(to me at least) to breed ignorance and inflexability. Rigid thinkers truly reveal themselves when calling someone a 'noob'.

Now it's one thing for me to criticize but I think I should also provide a reasonable(in my opinion) solution in an effort to be more productive than counter. I suggest that if you think someone is new and their questions frustrate you, then try a new approach if you think your comments are going to come across as deeply insulting and offensive.

Here is a small example that I would try instead of jumping to remind them of how new they are to the game or group of gamers:

"I see that the question you ask is very common among new players. Perhaps if you tried some light reading in the new-comers section you might find your question has already been answered."

I don't see why this is so difficult to do. It's really very easy and requires only a tiny bit of patience on the more experienced player's part to write it. I think it would help save time, reduce perceived insults, and help the new player on a more expedient path to learning how to be a better player.

MATH...Euck...Yuck!

I find there are many great Strategy Threads & Posts in the Library, but I have a small problem with some of the more technical ones. Although they will contain amazing tips and effective ideas that I enjoy reading and can use in the game, when they start breaking things down with MATH, I just lose interest. Don't get me wrong, I appreciate all of the hard work & in-depth research that went into these Threads & Posts, but I am simply not interested in the math. Heck...very few people on Earth really like math, anyways, right?!

So, I would like to propose that another Thread be used to explain certain strategies and ideas without the use of MATH or complex terminology. That way, when nOObs or people like me are looking for an explanation of the "Logistics" skill for example (in a language we can understand and also find interesting), we can simply refer to the "Layman's Thread" to easily understand Logistics "General Concept".

This might make me sound stupid or childish, but I have seen some Posts where the author included pics with their strategy (Xarfax's Medusa Store Post, for example) and I found these very interesting while totaly understanding their message too! So, please keep putting in those great strategy pics , but please find a way to leave out the MATH...euck!

This sort of Thread would be a specific ressource for people who want to get better at the game, without having to break out a calculator every time they move their hero one step.

P.S. I thought I had left Math behind me when I graduated from school, but it seems to follow me everywhere I go!!! Ahhhh, someone help me!

Hi Xarfax,
First off, I find that your post was a valid one. But I do not think it belongs here in the library feedback. The threads you are reffering to are in the Tavern, so posting there would me more appropriate. However, after reading Consis' post, I feel that you are reffering to the fact that there has been some noob calling in the library. Is this the case? I would appreciate some clarification.

In any case, I will comment on your post. The terminology for noob or vet is probably more of along the lines of what you say. The thing is that its a bunch of noobs that created those threads, and are presently managing it, myself included.  So to us Noobs, we thought those definitions would be good enough. but it does seem we where wrong.  When we say Vet, we only mean a good player. We are trying to make a tournament with only beginner players and another one with good players and beginner players that can learn from the good ones. We certainly don't only refer to ToH and especially not only to Season 1 or 2 players. We mean simply advanced skills and beginner skills - that's all.

But to say that the thread is stupid, I frankly don't agree with that statement. Do you find it's stupid because the noob and vet definitions are not the ones you want to see? The fact is that those two threads are attracting alot of people and generating interest... and I'm sure the tournaments proposed, if managed well, should be great fun, especially for us noobs. I really don't understand why you say they are stupid.  Since I managing one of them, I would really like to hear your resons for this.

Please do reply to my post as I found that most of the time when I adress you, you completely ignore me; and I'm unsure why that is.

Thanks,
Conan

It's definitely not a word game. It's a game, but a strategy game.

I've been thinking about starting a RL This or That in the Wastelands, where people post 2 choices about anything NOT related to HOMM. That would belong in the wastelands, but the HOMM This or That is fine right here. Besides, it would have been deleted long ago if it were in the Wastelands.

I must say that ever since Angelito became a mod here in the Library, things began to be more dynamic and interesting. He's very eager to make this a better place, and what better way to do that than cleaning the place of unwanted spam. The problem i want to raise here is that all those threads that were closed appear now on the first page, so now we have 12 closed threads on the first page, morew than half the space.I was wondering if someone(Angelito )can move those threads into VW or somewhere after you gave the authors time to check the links you provided to answer their questions.

I donīt want to delete those threads, coz someone with the same/similar problem could look/search for those threads and solve his problems as well.

The fact about 12 closed threads being on first page will be solved from alone the next days..

And i cleaned only the first 10 pages so far. About 30 more to do...

Please donīt feel too much annoyed by finding lots of "closed" threads on the first page the next days/weeks.

Cleaning the whole library needs a bit time, but i think it would be too easy just to move all old threads to the wastelands and let them die there.

If u disagree about a specific thread to be closed, feel free to post it here and we can rethink about to open it again..

I've just realized another good thing about Angelito's job in cleaning this place up.This way, guys who weren't here for such a long time(me included) begin to search deeper ito the library and revive old interesting threads.Even if nothing new or interesting is posted there by those guys it's still helpfull(kinda digging up some lost old valuable treasure).
As a suggestion for the "Table of contents" thread:Could the key words(words that are blue) be changed for some threads?
E.G. "The castle or capital" thread on the first page has become insreasingly interesting theese last few day due to the fact that some vets posted some links/strats regarding the chaining tactic.IMHO this thread is worthy of the table of contents. But if a guy will be looking info about chaining in 6 months time he won't have a clue that there are valuable information about it in that particular thread, cos of the title(who is the key word). So my suggestion is to make some kind of a short summary for those threads in the Table of contents in wich to be detailed the content of a good thread
E.G:  Castle or capital?
This thread provides debates in building strategies; Also it gives you interesting chaining tactics by some of the best players in the game

This way people will get the exact information from the exact spot(thread/page) as usually good threads are usually long .
If Angelito/Hexa/Kuma agree with this i'd be happy to help you make some of this summaries.
hope this is helpful in any way...

hi Tigris,
I've updated the library as you said. The Capital thread was a newer one so it wasn't on because I didn't update it in 2 weeks. But I do it now and then to make sure everything is kept track of.
Thanks for the comments.

PS On top of being in charge of the Noob Tourney, I also am in charge of the ToC

OK...the first 14 pages of the library are cleaned of SPAM, threads with solved problems and "useless" threads.

Feel free to post any thread/post within these 14 pages here which should be moved/deleted/cleaned, for the fact i have disregarded it.

...hi angelito,

i appreciate your work very much, but i must say u are exaggerating at the moment. Leave those old threads alone... to clean those unimportant threads just brings them onto mainpage, will current discussions will be pressed on second or third page. Those will especially new players silent ...as they start discussion just to find themselves unanswered on the 3rd page the other day.

To revive an interesting thread from time to time is a good thing ..to literatelly spam the library by reviving all kind of threads in not!

All those old thread have so many faults in them, it would take weeks to correct them. Now the faults get revived and as they will stay uncommented people will believe they are all ok...

..furthermore u delete post which u think is spam or trash talk. Most of the time those answer did occur when someone did a really stupid and incorrect post. So again if u delete those post those post now are uncommented as "false" and new players will think everything in it is correct.

Additional to this some of those objects arent really up to date ...not even Dingo revived them!! (that tells all). So please leave those uninteresting threads were they belong... at the end of the library.

If u find 2-4 interesting posts, clean them from the ugliest spam and revive them it would very appreciated ...put to revive 30 old uninteresting threads in a single day is not appreciated.. at least not by me.

So please let your more then good work going... but please stop to exagerate it.

Just a community members opinion,

Xarfax1

PS: ..and if u delete all the trash talk post, sir stevies post count will go down to subzero

Thx for your feedback Xarfax

Itīs a good thing to (sometimes) hear something else than "very good" "wooohoo" and so on...Thatīs what this feedback thread is for.

Let me give u and the other members some clarifications about some of your points.

Leave those old threads alone... to clean those unimportant threads just brings them onto mainpage,...

As i said on my first days as moderator, i want to clean the whole library in the next 2(3) months. This includes bringing threads to page 1 by reviving, cleaning, closing, moving....
As i mentioned, it will be a bit annoying the next month, but when the cleaning is done, everything runs normal again. Just be a bit patient...please...

All those old thread have so many faults in them, it would take weeks to correct them. Now the faults get revived and as they will stay uncommented people will believe they are all ok...

Faults?...hmmm..if u mean wrong facts, then everyone should now be able to post the correct fact, if not already done in the same thread. If u talk about false strategy, then we will have the same problem as in the "This or That" thread. (subjective views...)

..furthermore u delete post which u think is spam or trash talk. Most of the time those answer did occur when someone did a really stupid and incorrect post. So again if u delete those post those post now are uncommented as "false" and new players will think everything in it is correct.

That is normally what i wanted to prevent. I tried to delete posts that way, no post which would belong to a deleted post would stay alone now. If i missed that in some threads, please post it here and i will "repair" that.

Additional to this some of those objects arent really up to date ...not even Dingo revived them!! (that tells all). So please leave those uninteresting threads were they belong... at the end of the library.

But that is somehow the reason why i revived some of these old threads, to let the members make them up to date without creating a new thread about the same topic.
And about the "uninteresting.." thing...i really donīt know which threads are uninteresting to most of the members. I hope these threads will wander back to the end of the library coz no1 will post in them.
But decision should be made by the members..

But i take your comment serious and would like to hear some opinions from the other members. Can you "suffer" this cleaning procedure for 1 more month, or should i change the way i do?

Please comment honest
