How does H4 calculate the morale-bonuses at battle-rounds?

Hi!

Yeah, that is my question.
When a new round in battle starts, some creatures get good or bad morale.
How does the game set this?

Has is something to do with how much they killed/lost in the round that just passed?

hope, someone can help

The more positive your morale is, the bigger chance you have to go first. The more negative it is, the bigger chance you have to move last. I think it´s just some calculating based on percentages, but I´m not sure.

You know what, I simply copy it here (that's my post so I may do it ).

For each morale point you have 10% chance to get high or low morale (for example: +7 morale means 70% chance to get high morale) at the beginning of your turn (summoned creatures' status is determined upon summoning!).

Creatures with high morale act sooner (can out-wait creatures with normal or low morale) and do 25% more damage (5/4 of normal damage).

Creatures with low morale act later and do 20% less damage (4/5 of normal damage).

Creatures' acting order:

1, Creatures with high morale in order of speed
2, Creatures with normal morale in order of speed
3, Creatures with low morale in order of speed
4, Creatures waited with low morale - reverse order
5, Creatures waited with normal morale - reverse order
6, Creatures waited with high morale - reverse order

If there is ever a tie it's always the other side to act next (the side which did not make the last action). If there is a tie in the very beginning, the attacker gets the initiative.

Spells like Fervor are very powerful, because creatures with high morale can out-wait other creatures and then can hit two times/stack with only one retaliation.

You can get good morale from your tactician (creatures only), from artifacts (creatures and heroes) and with the fervor spells.

The morale of your units is calculated individually. They get -1 for every allied creature, -2 for every neutral (barbarian), -5 for opposite and -2 for undeads. The first 3 counts once/alignment (so if your imps got -5 morale for your sprites, they won't get an additional penalty for your feary dragons, but will get one for your angels).

Fervor sets your morale to 10 and keeps it there, sorrow cancels any fervor and subtracts 10. Satyrs can cast mirth.

Your morale changes dinamycally in fights: for every 10% hp you lose your morale decreases by 1, for every 10% hp you kill your morale increases by 1.

Crusaders always have maximum morale.

You must know how retaliation works too: if a creature makes a retal in phase 5, for example, it does not get it back until next phase 5 (and not next round!) (so if you fight with a slower creature you can still click wait in turn 1 and not click wait in turn 2 and opponent wilkl retaliate only once (even though he might have acted between the two hits it takes)).

Luck works similarly, but instead of being in a fixed status the whole round, it's roll is made anytime the creature is about to take damage (normal damage and some chaos spells).

A lucky hit is only 2/3 of the normal, while an unlucky one is 3/2.

Luck is very powerful too!
Watch out for leprechauns and fortune spells.

Bards always have maximum luck.

The complete list of spells that are affected by luck:
Holy Word, Holy Shout, Lightning (but not CL!), Implosion and Disintegrate.

Doesn't luck apply to all normal damage spells, such as Ice Bolt, even if not to fixed damage spells such as Poison?

Thx, csarmy, I knew some of that, but the rest was all I wanted to know

@Korejora: I think, too - Maybe I don't remember correctly but if do, spells such as ice-bolt are affected by luck, too!

OK, so can you explain this:  Bohb is fighting some faerie dragons alone at a Colosseum of Magic to gain a level.  Naturally, he starts by casting anti-magic on himself.  The dragons advance to engage him, but do not reach him.  Suddenly, on the second round of combat, his morale is bad.  How come?

Doesn't it have something to do with the relative HP of the two armies? Or am I confusing this with the "killing bonus"?
