Extended Creature Upgrades

I don't know how many of you enable the extended creature upgrades when playing. besides the stack experience, wich is so amaising, I think that this too can be an intelligent element of wog. And maybe more

For instant, i'm thinking about a more related connexion between stack experience and the extended upgrades, something like alternativ and progressiv upgrades; gaining experience the peasent stak can become a halebardier stack  or an archer stack (if the heroe has archery) or a werewolf stack if it was hit by a gnoll or werewolf, or a skeleton stak and so on....
Of curse, the halebardier can become a swordmen and the swordmen a cavalier....

The idea is that of extending the use of experience...

I don't know....you people think that this could be a good thing, because I have a lot of ideas!

I think it's a bad idea.
1. maybe a pikeman could drop the sword and pick up a bow to become an archer, but how can a gnoll become a lizard? how can a gremlin become a gargoile, then a golem and THEN a mage? it's pretty stoopid....
2. troops have castle upgrades, experience upgrades, artifacts. why on earth do you think they need yet ANOTHER upgrade system?
3. this could greatly unbalance the game, because the strenght of castles is balanced as the troops have weaknesses and strenghts. (i.e. elves weakHP/strong attack together with dendroids strong HP/weak attack)

Think about pikeman/halberdier growth, where this leads? Later you will have hordes of angels (or champions or whatever) and maybe a bit too easily...

Slow down people!

I didn't meant a universal and a continuous upgrade!
This is not a stupid idea! Sorry guys...but maybe YOU think too linear.

I wasn't talking about mixing the races!!! or upgrading all the creatures into one big level 7 or 8 creature!...
I'm thinking strictly to a specific upgrade. Something that the nature of each creature and the logic of the events allowed. That is, an upgrade wich is based on the race differances(1.), on certain events(2.) and on acumulating experience(3.).

1.There are many races in Heroes, and also many monster. Between them there's a clear distinction.I realise that in Heroes there's no strong idea of races, but a human is not a monster. So inside the human race itself should be a progression - from low experienced peasent to well credited champion and STOP. The angels or griffins are not humans, they are monsters. They don't have a race or culture therefore they can't have a progressiv upgrade, but a simple one.(the same for other races...I don't know exactly which and how many; maybe this is a point to be discused.)

2.Also there's no such thing like a castle for one race.
The mages are or could be human too. And most of all there are human heroes for each castle (that's an other point to be disscused).
So besides races and monsters there are also casts.
An alternative upgrade is then when a peasent stack in progression meets in the game other casts and they want to become a mage, a rogue or a nomad stack. Or they could be transformed into skeleton, ghost, vampire or werewolf stack and so on...

3.And how we could do so: well, by acumulating experience and having an option in wich the player is asked if he wants to upgrade progressively or alternatively his troups and stacks. Note that a peasent stack which is upgraded to a nomad stack has spent the experience. The fresh nomad stack is now level 0.

In this way we have not too many angels or we're loosing no balance in the game.

I didn't was from the beegining so precise 'cause I belived that you people maybe think allike...

And the problem lies straight in other castles than Castle: In Castle the leading race is humans, but in other castles, there are no "leading" races. All the troops in other castles are from different races.
But I like the peasant idea. Peasants, after certain experience level, could be trained to player chosen units, for example pikeman, archer, swordsman, cavalrier, monk, cavalrier, mage, nomad, sharpshooter or any other unit of human race (if there are more, canīt remember) as new recruits. That sounds good!

I must say that I, too, like the idea with the peasents.
They could become any human-based creature

well, the number based on hitpoints maybe, so if monster X has 10 hps, you need 10 peasents to get one of this monster - or any other way so that you cant easily make 100 Champions or whatever^^

The thing with ghost/skel/vamp would be a thing for the undead-transformer. Maybe enabeling the player to choose wich he wants. So if you put enaugh creatures in the transformer you can choose if you want
-Skellies/Skeletton-Warriors
-WDs/Zombies
-Wights/Wraiths
-Vamps/-Lords
-Liches/Powerlichies
-Srak/Dread Knights
Of course you wold need to have the specific creature-dwelling built. So you can't transform you peasent (or other) into Liches if you don't have a Mausoleum in that castle. Allso you need the upgraded Mausoleum to transform into powerliches.

Or maybe experience? Because I find it weird that 100 Peasants turn into 1 Champion...

to upgrade peasants to a variety of different creatures, you'd need to set up several different click functions to catch which creature was clicked and reroute to the proper function when a peasant was clicked. the function would loop through all available towns and get info on which buildings built and use that to create a list of possible creatures to upgrade to. ERM already has the ability to show a list of 8 choices i think so you'd be limited to 8 different upgrades. you click which creature you want your peasants upgraded to, the function checks your money/resources whatever is required and subtracts as many peasants as you can afford to upgrade from the clicked peasant stack. then it gives you a proper number of the chosen upgrade. it would need to use the 'offer creatures' function to deal with the possibility of hero having 7 stacks and upgrading only part of peasant stack. anyone see any probs with this?

Its a cool thought. Setting aside the balancing issues for a second, its rather sweet. You could add goblins/wolf riders/boars - orcs - ogres into the concept. Could work for infernal aswell, theyr mostly demons of different sizes. As for the undead it would be cool if the skeleton transformer could convert cavaliers into death knights, crusaders into vampires etc. Even dragons for a charge.
But if this stuff could be implemented, other towns would need some other kind of system to even things out. Send experienced gnolls to capture some dragon flies in the swamps? A bit far-fetched perhaps.

Well, the skeleton transformer CAN change any dragon or hydra into a bone dragon, that's always been a standard ability.  Just don't put any WoG creatures in there, it causes a crash.

It should work fine with WoG creatures since 3.58 or 3.58f. At least I remember that I have fixed it :-)
