Heroes 3 Basic Training Map

I don't think there is a link in the library to this great map.
It has three colors to play with. Red explains the basics of effective battle (fights against slow creatures, shooters, making use of no retaliation, fighting with a ballista, using spells to minimize the losses...)
Blue is about movement allowance points.
Tan is about chaining and scouting (you get 2 days to visit four border tents and to get four artifacts to the seers).
Heroes 3 Basic Training Map
It's a great help for noobs.
and yeah, add this to the table of content too

Nice one.
Although I didn't enjoy losing with the first two colours. Why can't these 4 AAs just pop up at my castle on day 2

And I could not complete the chaining exercise on first try, being two tiles short from my goal I guess this exercise shows that chaining works properly only when you know exactly how far your heroes move and how many tiles they have to cover

Quite helpful for beginners I guess.

Suggestion for the sequel: 2 players, one using might, the other magic (magic shrines to learn specific 2nd/3rd lvl spells), goal to flag all mines on a realistic-looking map, time-limit 1-2 weeks. Instruction through events and timed events.

@revived
Saw that yesterday via random discussion board.
Downloaded it and played it.
Red is easy to finish with(maybe some editing in the monsters numbers especially for the gomems and zombies would make it better),blue it's simplistic explanations(nothing fancy there eighter),but instead tan is just great!
It was quite a challange and i have to admit i didn't do it the first time,i had to restart to complete the tasks.
Guess i'm but a choob after all.

Anyone else want to give this a shot?

@edit:Mind that when playing red,Gurnisson should have the spirit of oppresion on when entering that abandoned mine(this is written in the script too) but in fact he does not!
So take care not to lose the ballista due to morale as you'll need it for the other battle!

zombie dance

darn

playing red and got stuck at the first fights, i seem to lose a lot of troops there. :-/ You're supposed to get through without losses, huh? I just can't get those golems/zombies to dance "forever" with my griffon, is there some kind of pattern how to move the griffon? Another problem, my main stack of pikes moves before single pikes and i can't get retaliations out of golems/zombies since they tend to move before my waiting (used wait there for main stack, mistake?) main stack of pikes. should i switch places so main stack moves last and single pikes get those retaliations? Thanks in advance! And yes i'm total newbie in this game but very eager to learn. ;-)

Yes, you should switch the place of the single stacks so they act before the main stack.
For the griffon, one possibility is to move him to the right in a position where the zombies or golems in that column don't reach them. The other stacks from upper columns will move towards the griffon diagonally. Next round you attract them more to the right taking care to shoot the stacks that less regrouped with the others.
Then it's only a matter of amnunition (if you have the amno-cart you can win impossible fights that way). It's easier if you have tactics since you can place the griffon immediately in position and wait with him.
The real trick is to protect the shooters so that no ennemy stack can reach them in 2 turns. If the shooters cannot be reached they will go after the flying unit.
If you face stronger armies and have more than one flying unit, the ennemy stacks will go after the stronger flying unit you have (if they can reach it in 2 rounds and can kill it easily) so your best fodder in that case is the stronger stack and the single stacks should protect the shooters.
You can dance with devils or archdevils too if you face stacks with a greater speed. If you have for example 3 devils and the normal hit and run doesn't work (wait, ennemy stack moves, attack, retreat, repeat) because the ennemy stacks are too quick and you are quickly cornered (specially in cursed grounds where you cannot expect a morale boost), you can split the 3 stacks in one stack of 2 and one stack of 1. If the ennemy stacks are very strong and can kill more than 1 devil, they will go after the stack of 2 devils if not they will try to reach the 1 devil stack.
Best way of course is to train more and more until you develop the method you like best .

as far as WW is abandoned, you can find this training map at WCL downloads. Few other training maps are there too. Also, have a look at WCL Arena sub-tournament
