I am the minority here. Since question basically is 1 extra efreet or 4 pit fiends, I would usually go for pit fiends. Day 1 week 2, 5 efreets and 3 pit fiends to dwarven treasury and day 2 5 efreets and 7 pit fiends through boars. And then hope that on the other side a paradise full of gold and mercury awaits. On the other hand, what do I know about this game?

hey lord lazy, nah I'm not that sensitive , I even thought the stevie wonder blind remark pretty funny. What I don't appreciate is his remarks after the edit.

Like I SAID in the other post he probably didn't read, I don't snowing need help, and this IS a fictitious situation with some similarity to a game I am playing now. With some similarity does not mean identical.

I DON'T NEED you guys to help me with advice, I just thought it would make a good discussion topic for the library since it is pretty dead anyway.

What would YOU do given this situation, that's all.

Here's what I would do:
1. Kill the wolf riders at the treasury and check it for dwarf number.
a) If it is throng, forget about it.
b) If you find a pack of battle and a horde or a horde, that would be my main target day 1.

Now comes the build part.
1. Building nothing is out of the question.
2. Building a marketplace isn't the best decision to make because it will not bring any new creatures to the table and the only worthwhile troop recruiting are efreets
3. Building cages is a bad idea because of your shortage in wood, and because hell hounds aren't that great in the beggining anyway.

The hard choice to make is between the pit fiends and the castle. Now what will castle bring to the table - 1 more efreet and more imps and gogs. The +1 efreet is pretty important, but there are some setbacks. This way you will be passing up pit fiends.

The 5000 cost of the castle also tells you that with 2500 gold you won't be able to buy all the 4 efreets for 2 DAYS. I think going for hell hole in this situation is better than castle because of the additional hit points and damage brought to the table. Also, you will have 2000 more gold and the wood left.

In the happy event the treasury has only horde of dwarfs, you would take that, and with the extra money buyout the remaining fiends and breakout.

Now worst case scenario, if u cannot take the treasury, and see the hoard of boars becoming a throng, you have the option now of building a marketplace, trading in most of your resources and buying as many troops as you can.

It's a good idea to post situations like this.
I would also go for Pit Fiends.

I still say you buy Castle day 7 and marketplace day 8 because as you said, you can build Market place and then trade all your useless ressources day 8 to buy the most amount of creatures possible.

So go for the sawmill day 7 and then day 8 chain and get as much of an army you can. I would not go for treasury because the fight before it is too much a price to pay for maybe not being able to win the treasury.
Also, if you manage to beat treasury, you might have some money, but no creatures for a week and you'll definatly never get through those boars after. Since you have cure, you can loose less effreties on the lizard warriors and keep your strengh for the boars.

LLazy, I think what you are proposing is a great idea. Sadly, my copy of HoMM3 is 2 hours away and I will only have it back Tues. At that point, I would love to participate in your "Tournament"

I'm not sure what you mean by going sawmill day 7, cause you do now know where your saw mill is. You won't lose much at the treasury (almost nothing at all), if there's only a horde of dwarfs and/or a pack of battle dwarfs. If there's more than that, I would suggest you to hold.

Imo you can still take a 20 dwarf treasury if you manage to get all the efreeti and pit fiends in there, but you should sacrifice a secondary hero in order to see if they are indeed 20 per stack (since a throng of dwarfes can be 20 or 30 or 40 and lots of battle dwarfs is again as inconclusive).

Well, if there are 100 dwarves or higher, it would say a throng of dwarves, and you could not distinguish between 20, 30, 40, etc.

80 dwarves and 20 battle dwarves would register as a horde of dwarves (not a throng) and lots of battle dwarves.

10-19 is a pack
20-49 is lots
50-99 is a horde
100-249 is a throng

If that's correct, then you should be able to figure it out by entering and leaving.

A sawmill is the place where you get your wood mine. I wasn't talking about a windmill.

yeah my bad about the dwarves. If you have battle dwarfs in a stack you'll always know whethere to attack or not. When you have just a throng of regular dwarfs tho, you still have to check.

And lazy, i would suggest you make a new thread for that because it seems pretty interesting.

To conan: you don't know where your saw mill is, so I don't see how you will get the sawmill day 7 :\

Oh wait, you haven't offered any.

There are many situations on random maps where you may have to fight undesirable fights to access the map.

well, if one were would need insight to post you could just make an buh bye post right now... only problem is that you wouldnt have the insight enough to make one

as for the joke, well being one would atleast make you qualified for that category

now kapsyn00b, if one havent made a break attempt and from there suffered heavy losses its usually stupid. In this case its stupid because with starting units and some extra buy out ones he would be able to beat the block.

Meaning.. taking fights to jeopardise blockkill is stupid.

Only possible block would be wood&ore mine then, but as most templates have a low diff in starting area you would need really bad luck to suffer from a block like that. And even then it would problably be a better option to hit the areablock (boars) - expand and then go for the wood/ore mine.

So.. youre a n00b.

Im insightful enough to realise that anyway

Anyway, i gotta say nice comments stevie, good analysis, only ...you're trying too hard to sound intelligent, you know that?

ok man as smart you are (or think you are), this is a given scenario that you have to make the best out of. Can you get that through your head? What's so hard about that to understand? This post is about what to do in that scenario. The question wasn't "how big is your e-penis is?" or "make speculations on what happened before day 7".

Jesus Christ :\

That's just Stevie trying to sound all high and mighty.
Doesn't work too well . . . .

Yeah, I'm a noob.  And if we played 100 times, you would probably win 100 times.  What does it all mean?  Absolutely nothing.  If you cannot even offer constructive criticism or at least post something relevant to the topic, then stay out and let us noobs talk it through.

Judging a choice to be stupid is not your call.  Perhaps it was unwise to take earlier fights, but until you actually try those fights, how is a noob supposed to learn???  Instead of a condescending attitude in which you offer zero insight, try being a little more helpful . . .

Zsa : any chance you can give us an idea of what those early battles were???  Could they have been handled differently or were you just trying something new???

I thought you meant "lumber res" as lumber ressource mine or Woodmill.

Sorry, now I realize you meant a pile of wood.
