Axis Revisited

This is the place. The greatest places of all. A place so great, that it consists of billions of smaller places. The Axis. The Axis is one of the greatest galaxies in this universe, and most densely populated. It is also the first galaxy the humans went to after finding ways of cheap and relatively quick interstellar travel. And when they reached it, they have found that one of the most important of it's billions of places is the Core. Filled with more sentient life forms than one could imagine, this is the meeting place and trading post of all the galaxy's major races. In a relatively short period of time, the humans got their own sector, representatives in the High Council, and then presidency on the Core. The rivalling candidate, Alistair the Esprit, found this unacceptable and went underground with his political skills to raise up the Kt'Kr against the humans.
Another figure on the Core worth noticing is Wee Gordy. This La-Ta is now a minor celebrity after he lead his team to victory in the Blitz tournament. With the support of president Daniels, he issued a challenge to any Kt'Kr team that his own folks would beat the bug folk in Blitz, hands down. This has been ignored however, and Wee Gordy bad-mouthed the Kt'Kr in the mass-media.
But the Core is home to more than just politicians, traders and sportsmen. Some consider life a luxury and specialize in taking it away. Some of them also share Alistair's hate towards the humans...

A few years have passed since Alistair's and Daniels' rivalry for presidency on the Core, and election time is nearing again - this time on the world of humans.

Rox was abruptly confronted by an intricate security boundary at the entrance to the La-Ta sector, the most conspicuous of which was a La-Ta hand scanner to keep other races from entering this area. He had obviously taken a wrong turn, the Blitz arena must be further onwards.

He turned around, back through the empty chamberway he took to end up where he was. As he approached the door, it opened automatically to allow him to pass through.
"Weird..?" He muttered, but thought nothing of it. Entering the dark next hallway, he could see the stars through the thick carbonfiber windows. Spotting a glowing speck in the far east, about 56degrees declination from this certain window, he stopped to look closer.

"My homeland..."Placing his scaly hand upon the view, a sudden rush of air was heard coming from behind him. Swiftly turning around Rox flicked a switchknife to confront the stalker.

"You have violated Core Act No.356 of the Thirteenth Revolution. You know what that means..." The large bulky figure had a menacing grin stretched from one gnarled ear to the other. It was an Enforcer, a race bred by scientists of governing officials of the Core to keep crime down. They were roughly humanoid, but much larger and with four arms. Created from an unrecognizeable mix of genetic material, born with superior intelligence and unending loyalty.

A direct violation of an Act in the Thirteenth Revolution was severe, and the rights of the accused suddenly become very scarce when the law involves the security of the government. Although he knew not what he had 'supposedly' done, Rox knew that this was serious and that no council measures would give him a chance of vindication. They were going to be after his head at any cost. Silence first, ask questions later.

A second had only gone by before this was confirmed by the Enforcer raising his gun to Rox's forhead...

Garthrax was sitting down with his back against a massive container. He was in the water purification facilities. Nobody ever comes here. Except the maintainance drones, which are easy enough to avoid. There was no other non-toxic place on the Core as safe as this one. He put a selection of knives and daggers into their corresponding places on a convenient belt around his torso, and then put on a big, dark, hooded cloak. Then he went towards the exit. He had a job to do...

"Now, now, there's no need to jump to hasty conclusions," said a voice from behind the group of Enforcers, who immediately glanced back to see who else had charged in uninvited. One of the Enforcers recognized the Esprit and immediately spoke up.

"Say, aren't you that Alistair fellow who Daniels smashed in the election? Guess there's more human support than you thought, huh?" he laughed heartily as the ex-politician glared at him, but suprisingly did not lose his cool. Instead, he walked through the bunch and over to Roximo, ignoring them and speaking very quietly: "I can help you out of this mess, but you must in turn help me. You will be compensated handsomely if you do well."

The assassin nodded, and the two turned back to face the Enforcers, who each had their guns raised toward the duo.

"Now you are both in violation of the code."

"And which code would that be?" Alistair asked lithely as he shot Roximo a subtle wink.

"Code 356, of the Thirteenth Revolution," the guard said, now locked in a battle of wits with the Esprit. He continued with a grin, "I'm sure you know what that means, your majesty."

"And yet, you never bothered to check if I truly was in violation, did you?" He pulled out a small slip of paper and handed it cautiously to the Enforcer Seargent, who read it with a baffled expression.

"Fine, Esprit, you are allowed to go, but this one must stay," he said, pointing at Roximo, "he is still in violation.

"No, he's with me."

"Then I'll need to see his pass as well."

"Certainly." He pulled out another slip.

"Why is he not carrying his own pass with him?"

"Because he is the stronger of us, and agreed to carry the tools while I carried the papers. We both belong here, so let us be on our way."

The guard narrowed his eyes, yet reluctantly stepped out of the way. He knew the Esprit was lying, but there was nothing he could do. It seemed that they did actually belong in that restricted sector, and there was nothing to suggest otherwise. The pair walked out the door.

"I'll be watching you two!" the seargent shouted after them.

"I'm sure you will," muttered Alistair as they rounded the corner.

"So, what did you want?" Roximo asked once they were sufficiently out of earshot from where the Enforcers still stood.

"I need your help in exterminating some pests."

"What do you plan to do about the Esprit?" said the reporter shoving his microphone in the face of Jim Daniels. He paused to clear his mind and answer the question despite the upsetting rudeness of the reporter. But another one interrupted him blerting out another question before he was able to speak.

"What do you think about running against your old campaign manager?"

"Why did you fire your Jon Anderson as your campaign manager?"

The questions never stopped swarming him since Jon Anderson announced his campaign for the Global Presidency. He was using the same extremist campaigning, pinning everyone against each other to gain power. Jim hated such a platform with a passion. It seemed to work quite well and it looked like he would be getting a run for his money.

"I'll answer all questions later today at the debate. No more questions please." the reporters were relentless badgering him with questions, even personal ones as he headed for his hovercraft.

Please be gentle, it's my first one...

With a deft hand, Tharj steered his Heavy Transporter towards the assigned landing dock. He could have let one of the pilots doing it, but he preferred doing it himself. It felt good to actually do something for a change, other than just fill out papers, read reports, and other such bereaucratic nonsense. On the next run, he thought, I'll make sure to hire some clercs for this stuff. It's needless for me to do it. A waste of my time.

The ship was approaching the airlock, now. Tharj held the controls with steady hands, and slowly, oh so slowly, manuovered the transportation crafttowards the opening. They went into the airlock, and Tharj heard the outer gate slam shut behind the ship. Air was pumped into the chamber, and the inner gate began to open. Tharj could gaze upon the overwelming docking bay of the Core. Thousands of ships were docked here; hundreds were moving towards or from the airlocks, and loading crews were swarming all over the place.

Tharj steered his ship towards his assigned spot, and when the ship was properly docked, he went to the personell door, to let the customs officials in. He settled them in the least comfortable chairs in his combined cabin and study, and poured them some booze, since this was the traditional way of greeting officials of another race. Tharj wouldn't touch the stuff himself, as he had seen too many good Hargans succumb to the evils of drink.
"So," he said to the highest ranking official, "What can I do for you gentlemen?"
"Name, race, number of previous visits here at the Core, cargo manifest, place of origin of your wares, planned business here, next destination, and name of the owner of the ship." The official spoke in a self-important way that made Tharj wanna punch him, but this man held his opportunity to trade his goods here, so he decided to ignore the rudeness, and reply politely. After all, he had taken a bath to make a good impression. Wouldn't do to have let all that water go to waste because he couldn't hold his temper.
"My name is Tharj Hargan, my race is, as you might have guessed, Hargan, and this is my first visit here at the Core." Here, the official interrupted him:
"is it? Well, welcome then. I hope it's not the last time you come here, Mr. Hargan."
"I guess it won't be," Tharj replied. He continued stating his business. "The cargo is Hargan mining equipement. 250 jackhammers, 250 mechanical sledgehammers, 20 complete sets of mining shields, 25 diggers, and 5000 sets of different sizes of mining body armour. My assignement here is to sell all the mining equipement, buy water and computer technology, and then leave, unless I'm given other orders before I'm done. If my orders are changed, should I report to you or what?" He looked questioning at the highest ranking official.
"Yes, that would be most appreciated. But please, continue." The official nodded to Tharj.
"Well, the next destination is my home planet Hargaia, unless the ordes are changed, which I've been warned they might be, if the political situation here changes. As for the owner of the ship, that's of course the Hargan Council of Elders."
"I believe I have everything I need to decide your customs fee, then," the official said. "We'll require some of your mining equipment to let you trade here. More precicely 10 jackhammers, 10 mech-sledges, one set of mining shields, one digger and 200 sets of body armour. Is that acceptable?"
Tharj knew that the question had only one answer if he was going to get to trade, so he said what was required of him. "Yes, that is acceptable. When will you come for the equipement?"
"Oh, just lay it aside for us in your cargo hold, and then, when you're either leaving or preparing to load the ship, you can come to our main office, and will send you a man to pilot the ship to our customs dock. If you 'forget' to put something aside for us, you will be heavily fined. Goodbye for now, Mr. Hargan."

As Tharj turned his back on the officials, he thought he heard the lesser official whisper to the other, "I heard they smell horrible, but that one wasn't so bad." Tharj let it go.

Later that day,he instructed his crew to mark some equipment for the customs fee, told them to not make any sales until the next day, and that if anyone came and inquired about a purchase, they were to make an appointment the next day. Now he went into the Core to have a look around.

Ansatsu docked his ship at the Core hangar.  He had heard of a new gambling area, and he made it his business to know everything about money-making opportunities, and gambling qualified if but by the slimmest of definitions.  Besides, he could still get a payoff from the imbiciles and tourists.  Maybe he should start a hovertaxi business...

Hours later, Ansatsu returned with little to show for his endeavor.   However, there was much that he had learned, and to be added to his computer log.  So far, his log contained data on almost all of the money-making enterprises in the Axis.   Ansatsu boarded his ship, entering the data into the vastly powerful computer he used.  Although his first inclination was to head off again to another planet, he remember hearing of two more businesses, and he was tiring anyway.  The Ya'rd inside him was complaining of fatigue, and he was not uninclined to agree.  He left his ship to find suitable shelter for a resting period...

The four-armed saviour explained condescendingly.

"Dammit. I knew there was a catch. Well how much do you pay?"Rox dusted his sleeve.

"Enough. If you accept I'll give you 2000 credits, and another 1000 when the job is done."

"And why should I believe you're true?"

"Don't you know who I am? I am Alistair of the High Council.  Don't make me regret helping you out back there, besides I am twice as intelligent as you."

"I could kill you in a second."

"But then how would you get your much loved money?"
Alistair drew a small velvet bag from behind his cape, opening it to reveal a small black Selculum, a device for transferring money around the Core. "See Rox, how will you know the code to give you the money, if I am dead? Now you will you help me out in return for a healthy sum or must I hand you back to the Enforcers?"

Roximo sighed. The man had him beat.

"Fine. Who's the guy?"

'Jim Daniels' Garthrax muttered as he climbed some very old crates. Considering their current condition, they should never be here, but since nobody comes here and the maintainance drones aren't programmed to keep the place clean...
He removed a plate of metal covering a hole in the wall. Whereever it led, it was dark there. Garthrax crawled through the hole in the wall, covering it behind him, made sure that nobody would recognize him in this cloak, and looked where he is. Uh huh. A wall in the way. Nowhere to go. Damn.
He turned around. Oooh, not trapped at all, eh?
He strode towards an infobooth, went inside, and quickly slammed the door shut.
'Greetings', said a pleasant yet slightly annoying female voice. 'What would you like to do today?'
'Where is Jim Daniels?' Garthrax hissed.
'Please wait...' the same voice repeated, becoming more and more annoying with every word it says. 'Unfortunately, president Daniels is not on the Core. Is there anything else?'
Garthrax left the infobooth and decided to get some food.

As Tharj made his way through the sometimes dim, sometimes brightly lit corridors of the Core, he couldn't help but stare at all the different creatures. Luckily, all his facial hair hid where his eyes were turned, so he didn't get any trouble with the more aggressive-looking beings. But just in case, he held a hand on his battle axe under his head, shoulder and torso hair, and kept his guard up. In a place as big as this, it was bound to be some pickpockets and other bad seeds about, and he didn't intend to let them get away if anyone attempted to rob him. If some Outsider robbed him, his political ambitions back on Hargaia would be crushed forever.

So he made his way cautiously through the warren that was the Core.

Sometimes, one of the giant bugs would pass just by him, and Tharj would feel cold ripples down his back. He didn't particulary like the looks of them, and he had overheard enough about the Kt'Kr to know that they were fierce fighters.

Now, he was moving away from the areas where most of the crews from interstellar crafts spnt their earned credits on drink and snows. Tharj reminded himself again that he'd have to tell the crew that anyone who set foot inside one of those areas, would be left here when they returned to Hargaia. You've gotta have diciplin, he thought to himself.

After some hours of sightseeing, Tharj went back to the docks. He was surprisingly relieved to see the ugly, but sturdy and practical hull of his transporter again, and as he went up the personel ramp, he decided that unless anything unforseen happened, he wouldn't leave the immediate area around the docs anymore during his stay. Now, he just had to hope that they could sell their stuff, buy what they needed and get the hell ouuta here before he recieved the message he feared from the homeplanet...

The debate begins

The noise, the clapping, the cheering, the applause, it was deafening. His name had been called out and he joined his opponent on stage. The two former allies walked out on stage from opposite sides. Jim pointed his head with a smile and waved to the crowd as he stepped out from the curtain, but at the same time, his eyes were fixed with a glare on his opponent. Jon Anderson threw back his own daggers with a gaze of fearless confidence.

"You haven't won yet you bastard," Jim mumbled to himself.

Tharj was sitting inside the communication center of his ship. He had just spend five hours establishing a secure line, and was now attempting to get through to Hargaia.

"Hargaia, this is HISSS Hargan Beaver, come in!"
.... silence....
"Hargaia, this is HISSS Hargan Beaver, come in!"
Some scratching sounds could now be heard over the loud speakers. Finally! Tharj thought.
"Hargaia, this is HISSS Hargan Beaver, come in!" Come on, you bastards! Come on!
"HISSS Hargan Beaver, this is Hargaia central command responding! Awaiting your report!"
"Aye sir! They didn't demand any credits as customs fees, just some mining equipment. 10 jackhammers, 10 mech-sledges, one set of mining shields, one digger and 200 sets of body armour. I didn't ask what they would need these things for, but I figured that since it was so relatively few items, they won't be setting up any major mining companies or anything to compete with our own industry.
"As for the trading, it's gone smoothly this far. I've nearly emptied the cargo hull, and the replacing goods have been purchased and loaded. I managed to squize some profits out of it as well. Not much, but at least some. We won't lose any on this journey, at least." Bloody boring negotiations, Tharj thought. He disliked negotiating from the deepest abysses of his heart, though most other members of his race delighted in trade negotiations. Tharj couldn't stand it. He was constantly fighting the urge to draw the battle axe he always hid under his facial hair and chop a trader to pieces, because of said trader's rude trade offer.
The communications officer in the other end was silent for a few seconds. Then: "And the political climate; how's that?"
Tharj thought for a while. "Well, I haven't been much outside of the ship, since I fear my crew would follow my example and be tainted by possibly hurtful ideas, but I've managed to scrape together some info...
"There's plenty of unrest among the Core's inhabitants over this human creature winning the presidency, especially the Kt'Kr seem to be at the brink of rioting. Roumor tells that the rivalling candidate, Alistair the Esprit, has gone into hiding and is now trying to put the fire into the hearts of the Kt'Kr. The security police might be trying to root out the insurrectionists, but if they do, they've managed to keep it quiet. The facts, however, points more in the direction of the authorities doing little to oppose this, umm, possibly unwanted opposition. But this is just the word on the streets, no one knows for sure, except the top brasses, and they sure as hell ain't talking."
"That's all, Captain?"
"Yeah, that pretty much sums it up. Do you have any further orders from the Council of Elders?" Tharj was crossing his fingers for the communications officer to answer negatively to that.
"Well, they have been summoned just now, to give you your further instructions. Just hold for a little while, and I'll connect you to their secure system." Tharj heard a clicking noise.

"Captain Tharj! We are most delighted to hear from you, though we expected you to make contact sooner?"
"Elder Hamman. I intended to report earlier, but I didn't really have much to report yet, so I decided to wait for a while, until I had something to say, so that I wouldn't waste power: We are paying rather still prices for power here at the Core..."
"Hmm, well, yes, your actions are correct as always, Tharj," Hamman said. "But this information we just heard you convey to the communications officer: How reliable is it?"
"It's hard to tell, Elder. It could be just dung, it could be all gold, and it could be 99% dung and 1% gold. But how to decide what is gold and what is dung, before history reveals this to us by itself, and makes this information useless? That I do not know."
"Ah," Elder Hamman said, "Wise is he who recognizes what he does not know."
"As the Elder says," Tharj said, hiding the self-satisfaction he felt rushing up to the surface. Humility, Tharj! Remember to show your humble face!
"Wise is also he who respects the words of his Elders," Tharj heard the old Hargan say. "Well, anyway, good Captain. Here are your further orders:
"You will remain on the Core for yet more time. Call us up if you discover anything of importance. And begin to walk more outside the docks; we need you to get into the gossip of the station as soon as possible if we are to decide wether or not to procede with our plans."
"And these plans include what?" Tharj asked, hoping he wasn't being too curious.
"If the Elections at Tellus goes as desired, and the political climate of the Core developes in a satisfactory manner, we are planning to apply for permission to establish our own sector in the Core. Production has already commenced; if this thing falls through, we'll have to find alternative uses for a lump of metal the size of a medium sized asteroid." Elder Hamman laughed a mirthless laughter.
Tharj cleared his throat and asked: "And may I ask the Elder what a 'desired Tellan election result' or a 'satisfactory development in the Core's political climate' is?"
"You may not," the Elder replied. "Contact us again if you discover anything new, Captain. May Wisdom and Strength follow you."
"Wisdom and str..." The connection had been broken.

Splendid, Tharj thought bitterly, more negotiations...

"Not a man," he said smiling, "but a woman." He then looked around cautiously and his brow furrowed as a look of worry crossed the little Esprit's face. "Come," he said, "we need not linger here any long.

Alistair began to walk, motioning for Roximo to follow. He did, and the pair were soon safely out of the restricted sector and on the central platform of the Core. The Esprit stopped at the edge of the exit and looked down at his waist, pressing a button and immediately taking for form of an indiscriminate Esprit. "One can never be too careful," he said, looking up at the skilled assassin. Roximo just stared back down, and Alistair soon removed his gaze. It was clear that he didn't like the ex-councilman, but it was business as usual for Alistair. He was used to people disliking him, and would only hold the assassin for one job. Then the offers would end, and he would turn to the Kt'Kr for less subtle aid. Such was his plan, Roximo's hit was meant only to stir up the Core, and he hoped to start a civil war by turning race against race while the humans were distracted with their petty election.

Rox and the now disguised Alistair slowly made their way over to the Esprit sector, and soon had reached the gate. Alistair pulled out a small card and swiped it quickly, slipping it immediately back into his pocket as the gate began to open. The pair made their way through the sector, and Alistair was greeted by several Esprit on the street.

"Hello, Shingle," came the reply from many.

"I'll explain later," Alistair quickly said, noticing the mildly puzzled look on the assassin's face. Rox knew that he wasn't who they thought he was.

Eventually, they came to a large mansion with a sizable gate, and entered as Alistair swiped the same card. This time Rox got a good look at it, though, and realized that this was an all-access key. Alistair could go anywhere he wanted; perhaps that was why the restricted sector had been left open.

Eventually, Alistair and Roximo reached their destination, a small room in the back of the large property. "That will be all," Alistair said smugly, gesturing the servant that had shown them in.

"Yes, master Shingle," he replied as he left, locking the door on his way out.

"So," Alistair began in a lighthearted tone as he dissolved his disguise, "how do you like the digs?"

"I'm not interested in this place, I just came here to get my job and go, and I will be back for the money once it is finished."

Alistair immediately became more serious. "Very well," he began contemplatively, "let me explain to you my problem. If you remember, last election, I was up for the presidency of the Core, but those morons elected a human instead, Jim Daniels. I've had to go into hiding, adopting a secret identity and forging an alternate life, that life of Shingle. The real Shingle was an eccentric entrepreneur, and very wealthy, and his was the life I wanted. So one day, I hired one such as you, one of the Kt'Kr assassins named Dingo, to remove the pest so I could take his place. Quite a good job he did, too, no one has suspected a thing. The data he collected before he offed the old bag was quite impressive. It was exquisite, the work he did."

"Get to the point," he said through clenched teeth, "I didn't ask for your life story."

"Fair enough," the Esprit responded, "I want you to kill Jim Daniels' family so that he has no ground to stand on against me. Leave this note at the scene of the crime, but do not, under any circumstances, open it. It is meant for the eyes of Daniels alone. Report back as soon as you are done to get your payment."

Alistair stood, and put up his disguise. "You may want to find a way off of this place once the fighting starts, it will not be pretty."

Rox nodded, and turned to go.

As the door shut behind the assassin, Alistair sighed and relocked it so that he would be left to himself. Dropping his disguise, he looked over as a secret door opened and in stepped another Esprit.

"Did you get all that, Duncan?"

Gordy relaxed back in the water and sipped his drink.

Life had been good for him in the previous year.
As an unlikely Blitz sensation he and his mix-matched team of players had stormed the Blitz leagues and with the ensuing popularity had been a major factor in rousing support for Jim Daniel's election campaign.

Of course in the process he had become very rich.
He had always been fast and immensely strong, but with the money he and his team mates acquired, quite a lot of it had gone on gene therapy and cybernetic enhancements to make them all stronger, quicker and smarter.

The Blitz season was over now until 3 months and Gordy was taking a well earned rest from practise that day, nursing a bruised shoulder from Onion's tackle maneuver.

He had also been busy for Daniel's that week on other business.
The latest publicity stunt by his team was the public demand to be allowed to play in the Kt'Kr arenas.

Gordy being a La-Ta, was banned from the Kt'Kr section totally (the La-Ta and Kt'Kr, both warlike races had had a very uneasy truce for ten years).
Danie's was using Gordy ancd his team to discredit the Kt'Kr, making them look unreasonable and aloof by refusing to allow one of the most popular Blitz teams in the Core and last years champs to play.

It had went well, the media people had helped of course, they new a good story when they saw it - and had entered into the spirit of it by asking questions guaranteed to elicit inflammatory answers.

Daniel's himself had called on the Com to gloat over the day's proceedings, it really had went well.

Standing up in the bath Gordy flapped his wings a few times to shake the water off them then fluttered to the ground. He was looking forward to a quiet night of....

The hell he was!

Gordy stopped and thought about his new lifestyle. He was going soft! When he first arrived he used to go out everynight looking for a drink a fight and a willing female.
These days he was happy to nurse his tired muscles in a
hot bath then watch the viewscreens before bed.

He was turning into a soft milksop of a creature.

Well that was gonna change.....

Searching in the back of his wardrobe he found what he was looking for. His old ship's jumpsuit and a hat with a long peak on it to hide his recognisable face.

Donning his clothes he grabbed his Gonnel stick (traditional La-Ta weapon) and went out to greet the night...

Garthrax walked into a bar of some sort. Then he saw that he made a really bad choice. Behind the counter stood a long haired human with pink glasses. He was waving his arms in an odd manner and humming a weird tune.
Garthrax grunted.
'Oh, um, sorry fren! What'll it be for yous?' said the man, pulling out a rather noisy device from his ear.
'Anything. Food. Make it sweet.' Garthrax chittered.
'Love me tender, love me sweet...' he sang (badly), as he went into the kitchen.
Garthrax put his head in two of his hands and muttered 'make it stop...'

This is so indredibly overdue.. But here it comes!

Far, far away from everything else, 30 years ago in a robotic planet filled with spiritually dead people. Sorrow is thick in this place..

On the Hovership Mulibarg
Hydian: There they are!

This is a normal day on Mulibarg. Which is the ship of the a small group of people who earn their living by kidnapping people and selling the bodies on their planet for money..

Hydian: Slay none! Take all as prisoners!
Wrairr: Calm down man, we know what to do. We've done this for ages..
Hydian: Sorry, but we've got to stay focused.
Wrairr: Don't worry, it's a piece of cake.
Hydian: You guys jump on to their ship, i'll blast away their front defence making them vulnerable to a frontal penetration.
Right now the group is getting some bodies..

Hydian is the loyal Captain of Mulibarg. He always guides his men, and will stick up for them anytime. This group of Wraiths are the few that remain positive, and believe the sorrow can be reversed.

Several days later, back on the planet...

Wrairr: We'll see you tomorrow mate!
Hydian: Actually, i'll be away for.. a long time.
Wrairr: How Come?
Hydian: There's a little thing i have to take care off.
Wrairr: When will you be back.
Hydian: The question is not "when".
Wrairr: Does that me...
Hydian: Don't puzzle yourself, just take care of the rest of the men, ok?
Wrairr: Okay. Good luck.

There is also a wraith Freedom Force, which are planing on returning the favour to the lizard-creeps.. And Hydian is one of those people on that force. He's being sent over to the Planet, alone. His job is to succesfully kill the race's King, without him there will be a war amongst the lizards, since they cannot live without an iron grip, and while they cast war upon eachother, the world is for the taking. The lizards aren't the race with the best defence, since they have such a great offence they don't think they need it, so a Wraith which walks in the night, will have it easy. And luckily for our hero, the Lizardian night last what in earth we would call several weeks.

Our hero actually came without being noticed to the planet, and he succesfully took hiding in their sewers. He fought his way towards the president for 30 years. Everyone thought Hydian was dead, but somewhere in those sewers..

Hydian: HA! Take that!
WAAAAAAAAAAAAAIRGH!!
Sound of a giant sewer dweller dieing
Hydian: .. I've got to be close now, i can sense that evil..
Hydian jumps up to a ladder like contraption on the wall, and climbs it to the top where he removes the Circular metal plate that kept his from the Surface world.

Hydian: Ahh.. Night once again!
As our hero walked towards the palace like thing, unnoticed, he heard someone speaking inside
Unclear Voice: Hssss... We've found more bodies sire.. They are everywhere! And the killer leaves little to nothing that could point in it's direction! But we know it's comming closer to you..
Hydian: Hello Captain Obvious!
Guard: What?
*SMACK!*

Lizard with uneasy Voice: Who ar..
*SMACK *

Hydian: Never ask me who i am, for i shall never answer thy question!

The President: KILL HIM! HSSSSSS
Hydian: Zuar Chik Ga.

Little did the Lizardian Guards know that Hydian had been hardened by all this fighting.. He had been in a warzone for 30 years, his chances of still being alive is lower than the chance of rolling a 7 with a dice with the numbers from 1-6 are. But as the Guards came, they fell. They fell hard en with lots of blood. Hydian had once again rained victorius in the heat of battle.
Hydian took his sword and stepped towads the president, and gutted him on the spot.

One thing you should know about the Lizards are, that they never think ahead. They always remain in the now..

Hydian found a vehicle that could fly and escaped.

2 months later the Wraiths attacked the Lizards, and the lizards were wiped from the face of the universe..

Joy is amongst the Wraiths once again! And with all the captured bodies, almost all wights got to be a Wraith.. But the tale is not over. The lizards had an ally, an ally that is more warhungry, and battle ready then the wraiths are.. so the battle for life and death is slowly arising, an the Wraiths doesn't look to be the ones to prevail..

OOC: I know it might seem a little Wicked that one man killed the president, but just take in mind that the Lizards didn't have any real defences, only a few untrained guards.

Tharj was standing in one of The Beaver's smaller, secondary storage halls. He was looking up at a crate thrice the height of a Hargan, and twice a Hargan's width, when his aide came into the vast room.

"Captain," the aide said. "We have some stuff up in the command room that we thought you'd want to see!"
"What is it?"
"It's some rather disturbing intelligence reports that just came in from Hargaia through the secure link, Sir. You'll have to see them yourself; I haven't yet mentioned any of the contents to anyone but you, out of fear that this might be overheared. I don't think it's common knowledge yet, Sir."
"I'll be right up, Absalom. Just go up before me, and clear the command room. But tell the officers on duty to stay close; I might have need for them, if this is as serious as it is."
"Accknowledged, Sir! But.. errr... Sir?"
"Yes, Absalom?"
"May I be rude and ask you a question? Umm... Sir?"
"Go ahead, Absalom. Ask. But I cannot guarantee you an answer."
"Well, Sir... Is it any special reason why you are standing in front of the mech crates, looking as if you're about to commit murder? Sir?"
"Committing murder, you say? No, Absalom. No such thing. I'm just hoping that the need to use these won't arise. I've heard a lot of unrestful muttering in the tavers these last days... Seems the populace ain't too happy about the recent political events. That, or someone's been spreading rumours against the central administration. Bah!" He spat at the floor. "If this was Hargaia, the whole thing would have been mercilessly crushed! But here, the authorities are forced to halt, or at least slow, their hands because of 'democratic rights of the people', as a result allowing the insurrectionists to get away!
"Sigh." Tharj took a deep breath. "Well, young Absalom. I hope you will excuse this breach of our code of conduct, and understand that what I just said remains between the two of us. You get it?"
"Yessir! Trust me, Sir. I won't tell anyone, Sir! You can trust me."
"I know I ca, young Absalom. Cos you're the only person except me who knows my thoughts on this, and if I hear as much of a whisper from the crew about this, I'll have your hide." He smiled kindly to the young Hargan. "Now, run along and prepare the comand room for my arrival. I'll be up in two minutes."
"Yes Sir!" Absalom turned quickly, and ran out of the hall.

Tharj sighed.

Rox peered through the sniper scope into the windows of Daniel's apartment.
Not home... I thought this was getting too easy.

He was only too used to this business. He packed up the sniper into it's case and placed it back into its hiding place. He descended the stairs and went into the side alley beside the house. Jumping up, he climbed onto the windowsill, then jumping to grab hold of the window on the next floor up.
He pulled himself into the door deserted bedroom, all the lights were off in the whole house.
He looked around for some indication of where she might have gone, and he was searching on the desk when he heard a rush of air downstairs, as the front door closed.

Rox peered out the fiberglass window to see Daniel's wife, Samantha, leave the house downstairs and head down the road with her son.
"Aha.."Rox said, and waited until they turned the corner.

He then swung himself over the ledge and jumped down off of the balcony, landing softly on the ground.
He followed them around the corner, sticking to the walls and keeping his distance. They had gone down the stairs underground into the Hover Depot, obviously headed for the spaceport.

Rox follwed them down, seeing them go left and disappear into the crowd. Rox pushed his way through, past the large number of Kt'Krs.
"Buy a Ticket?" An elderly man asked him as he walked through the turnstiles, standing in his booth holding out a steel card.
Rox, in a hurry, grabbed the card and continued through, ignoring the man.
"Hey, HEY!" He called out, and soon Rox too was lost in his sight.

In the corner of his eye, Roximo spotted the Daniels boy, going down into a dark corridoor.
"Bad mistake, m'boy."

Rox followed him down. The boy turned the corner. Rox stopped and listened; the boy had stopped, turned and his footsteps were becoming louder. Rox pinned himself up against the wall of the corridor, and waited until the footsteps were right behind him.
Sooner than he had anticipated, the boy was infront of him. He was shorter than Rox, only in his early teens. Rox quickly reached for his knife, and flicked out the blade. The boy looked at him, not knowing whether to run or stay. He looked down at the knife, then back at Rox.

"Guards!" He cried, with terror in his voice. Rox grabbed a hold of him behind his neck and pulled the boy into the blade, it slicing straight through his soft chest. Blood came out onto Rox's hands and knife, and he withdrew the blade and slit the boys throat. The body collapsed to the ground, blood still pulsating from his chest. Rox grabbed him by his arms and dragged him into the corner, near a money withdrawal machine. Must have been where the boy was headed. When he had seen that the body was properly hidden, he stopped and listened.
No one came. Strange, Samantha must have known where he was, why didn't she come?

He checked the boys pockets. Empty, except for a few credits. Rox shoved them into his case and checked the boys shirt pocket, to find another steel ticket.
Rox smiled to himself... he had payed for this one. It was inscribed on it his time of departure, train, and destination.
CBD2
Destination: Sector 35i
Departure: 34th 1st

Hmmm.. He had thought they were headed for the spaceport, as Alistair had said.

Rox stood up, and went back to whence he came, walking to the Information centre.

Rox stood by the box, put in a coin and pressed Passenger.
The machine spoke to him in a calm female voice.
"Name of Passenger please."

"Samantha Daniels." Rox stated clearly.

"One moment please. The machine clicked five times, and the same woman spoke again.
"Samantha Daniels.
Train CB04.
Destination Spaceport E.
Departing, 20th 1st. Thankyou!"

The machine shut down, waiting for the next customer.

"Ah, so the son goes elsewhere.."
Rox checked the time. It was 19th 1st.
Frantically, Rox looked around for a sign, any sign to help him.
An electronic signal had an arrow pointing forward and then to the left, reading CB00-CB20.
Rox ran straight ahead, knocking over a La-Ta in his path. He sprinted down the stairs, down towards where the trains would depart.

Just as he neared the trackes he saw train CB04's doors close, and begin to leave.
"Dammit." But he would not let her get away.

Rox began running again, pulling out his gun. He seldom used his handgun, finding it too loud. Ironically, this was the exact reason he would be using it now. Keeping it hidden under his jacket, Rox aimed it behind him and shot blindly. A cry arose from behind him, he had shot someone, but he did not look back.
"We're under attack!"A man screamed.
"Someone shot this guard!" It had worked. Apparently no one had seen his gunshot... the perfect distraction.

Rox, still running, stopped on the edge near the tracks. There was a single magnetic track on which the Hovers would glide. Rox took out his steel card, and threw it onto the tracks behind the escaping train. Immediately the train screetched to a halt, and a siren went off.
Being magnetic, metal contact with the rail assumes immediate danger of de-railment to the train. Soon more guards would be down to investigate the death of the officer and the stopping of the train. Quite a mess he'd made, and he didn't intend to be around when they were cleaning it up.

Rox did not hesitate in jumping onto the tracks, and running up behind the train. He jumped onto the back of the train, looking inside. The last carriage was empty, so he held onto the side rails and smashed a window and jumped onboard.

"Here I come.."

Tharj strode into the command room with a harsh frown on his face. He walked past the last operators on their way out of the room, and when he reached his command seat, the room was empty of Hargans save him and Absalom.

"So, young Absalom. What was this pressing matter you needed to inform me about?"
"About 20 minutes ago, Sir, an inteligence report came in through the secure channel..."
"Yes, yes, yes. You told me that already! Get on with it, lad!"
"If you will excuse my insolence, Sir, I would be almost finished if you hadn't interrupted me..."
Tharj grinned fondly at the young Hargan. "Ah, of course Absalom. Indulge an aging Hargan in his absentmindedness, will you? But remember that if you ever serve under another Captain, be sure to hide such 'insolence' until you know if the Captain allows it. I have known Captains who had members of their crews flogged for speaking their minds! But remember also that the strength of the Hargan military rests not on our ability to fight, nor our technology or superior tactics. No, our armies are so strong because the individual soldier is allowed to use his own brain! And that he is allowed to tell his superiors that they are wrong, if he thinks so. No mindless ants, are the average Hargan soldier!
"Hmm, anyway. Enough lessons for today. Continue with this report, will you?" Tharj looked at the youngling.
"Yessir! The report mentioned that the Wights have finally risen against the Lizards, Sir. They have literally committed genocide against the Lizard. Not that they weren't 'justified' in what they did, but... They killed and possessed every male, female and infant Lizard, Sir. Most of the Wights are now Wraigts. There're rumours about them planning a war against someone who've been helping the Lizards. Not much is know about this, though." Obviously having finished his report, the young Hargan sat down at his master's side. "What do you make of it, Sir?"
"Let me hear your toughts first, Amsalom. You're not here just to listen to my ramblings, you know. You're here to prepare for officer school, and they expect you to think for yourslef there. So, go on. Give me your thoughts." He looked expectantly at the younger Hargan.
"Well, Sir," Absalom began, "The way I see it, this doesn't matter much to us, at least not directly, Sir." The kid looked nervously at his superior.
Tharj nodded approvingly. "Go on, Absalom."
"Yes Sir. First: We never traded with the Lizards. Some of our technology could have found its way to their hands, but not through official routes. And this wouldn't have been state-of-the-art stuff anyway. Second, we never officially approved of the Lizards' treatment of the Wights. If I recall correctly, our lack of trade with the Lizards was a inofficial result of a general distaste towards their actions against the Wights, since the average Hargan thought that it was not only atrocious, but also a crime against the sovereignty of the Wights.
"So," Absalom continued after a short break, "the only way we might be directly affected by this mess, is if the Wights ask us to join their war. This request will of course be politely turned down, unless of course, something very unforeseen happens, or if the Wights try to threaten us. If the latter happens, though, it's most likely they who we will face in battle." He let out a deep breath. "So, the only way I see that we could be affected by this, is how the public here at the Core will react to the news. The best reaction for us would be if they simply didn't care. I suppose this option is also the most relevant - the average Core-dweller doesn't care what's going on in the other end of the galaxy. They have more than enough to dwell on in their own day-to-day lives. The worst reaction would be if the mobs for some reason began revolting. But I cannot say why this business with the Lizards and Wights would concern them. It wouldn't exactly be the first thing to drop into my mind if I was asked to make a list of possible events that could make the Core's habitants revolt."
Absalom was obviously done. Tharj sat in his chair, thinking about the current events. Suddenly, he spoke.
"Absalom. Your analysis of the situation matched my own in every detali, except on one important point. Well done, lad!"
Absalom beamed of pride, but suddenly a shadow fell across his face.
"Sir? Would you care to tell me what this important point is?" He looked expectantly at Tharj.
"Yes, Absalom. I would," Tharj replied. "The important point is best phrased as a question: Who are the Wraights going after now?"
Silence fell in the command room. Neither Tharj or Absalom spoke in a very long time.

Chapter 1: Tear apart, the Face, the Heart!
In a room, in an unknown place

Hydian: So.. Whats up for the next Phase?
Slythar: Well, I and the other members of the council has spoken.. We have to find a new reason to be joyful, the glory of the won battle will not last forever. With our current knowlegde, we know that the thing that gives our race joy, is war and battle. So we've decided that the next phase shall be an extreme sort of training, because we are not the only race that is ready for battle. Everyone will probably fear our next move, because we are not capable of killing them, but a hard blow will maybe crush and empire if someonetakes the scraps. And noone will try to attack us here, with our base defences plus our army, so let the training commence!
Hydian: Well.. My next question must be why you called for me?
Slythar: Well.. You have proven yourself a beast of battle, and therefor you'll something that our future cannot be without, Great Hydian!
Hydan: Hmmm... Mhh.. Who will be our next target?
Slythar: Since the training will be constant, the training part will be good but short. And well.. You'll recieve a full report over the next target. You are dismissed.
Hydian: Hmm.. Alright, i'll be at the Fighting Pens then.

Hydian, the most lustful creature that has been given to the Wraiths.. Is now preparing for battle. For 15 weeks he is training, getting his body buffed with special "drugs, making him a even better figher. The drugs are given to everyone, but not many more than Hydian can take wicked amounts..
1 week later abord the ship: Gorja.

Crippled overdrugged servant: Mmmasssterr... Here is the report that you .. *Coughs* .. ! .. that you have awaited.
Hydian: Great! Finally..

Report:

Dear Hydian.

When you read this you'll know that you might not turn back, but we've got a job that needs to be done. You have to go to planet Zlar. Zlar is the planet with the most Zlarigians, 98 % to be exact. Your mission is to kill a guy called Zlu. If you succed, their race will fall into their own dictatorship, and we will have no fuss with them no more. Good luck.

Sincerely: The Council.

Hydian: Well.. Looks like i have nothing better to do.

Hydian flys to Zlar, and sneaks into the night.
Hydian finds Zlu right away, and sneaks into his office

Hydian: Say your prayers, mongrel!
Zlu: I've been waiting for this! *Throws a spear into Hydians chest. Throws 2 more spears at the same spot*
Hydian falls over backwards and lies on the floor, not really doing anything.
Zlu: And you were the downfall of the lizards? Ha.
A few seconds pass, and Hydian gets up and draws his sword.
Hydian: Check please! *Cuts Zlu's heard off.*
After saying something that really wasn't understandable, our hero pulls the 3 spears out of his chest and leaves.

The mission was done, without any hassle. The Wraiths are a battle hungry race, which now only exists for war..

A few days later on Gorja:

Hydian: Our next target is *BzzzZzzzZz*, and we will not lose!

A giant fleet is now leaving the Wraiths homeworld..
