Rate the Creature specialist in end battles

Greetings
Well i have been pondering on wich creature specialist i would prefere as my main in an even endbattle and why, assuming i had to develop one. In my case playing fortress, but i thought it might be worth the thread to discuss for each town! (and again forgive me if i overlook a simmelar thread and direkt me there!)

So here is my take on fortress creature specialists.

1) Bron -     resistance and Basilisk
2) Alkin -    offense and Gorgons
3) Drakon -   leadership and Gnolls
4) Wystan  -  archery and Lizardmens
5) Broghild - scouting and Wywerns
6) Korback  - pathfinding and serpent flies

Last comes Korback and Broghild, beacause off the useless skills and that their creatures don't really benefit alot from the speed bonus! And beacuse of their specials, I tend to use them on different targets each round, meaning they takes some strong hits, and getting a small bonus to def/attack is not helping them alot!
I put Broghild as number 4 because, even though lizard wariors does become good shooters with archery (and bless) they are still the only shooter.

Drakon is third. Gnolls benefit alot from going to speed 6 and do get a decent attack/def bonus. And leadership is not bad at all!!

Alkin is second because the speed on the MG does worry an opponent alot! And offense is a must have !

Bron is first because that most likely the opponent has done what he could to take out the MG and Hydra, and when i had also sacrificed Dragon flies and wywerns it leaves basilisk as the stack lasting longest! With bron i try to make my opponent regret that!

with regards

for me alkin over bron definitely, no question about that . Also in an end battle would rather have the serpent fly dude over Wystan, almost always.

So here it is:
1. Alkin
2. Bron
3. Serpent Spec Dude
4. Gnoll dude
5. Wystan
6. Wyvern dude

Guitarguy: sorry to say it, but your post is not very helpful actually mostly useless in the topic i raise here!! Talking about an endbattle hero rules out 1st half of your post,
Maybe try to sharpen your second half into what specialist you prefer! Besides your point about the fliers, i have very difficult to translate your more generel advices into an actual hero rating and arguments about it!

Zsa: interesting that you value "the serpent dude"
Do you choose alkin because off the offense , the speed or because he keeps the gorgons alive a little longer! I often find that my gorgons is going to be dealtwith (ganged up on! asap,) and find it of little value to have a creature specialist with no bonus creature left !

Others: pls join in with, also with next towntype heroes!

alkin has offense and armourer if he gets log too, he'll have the 3 skills i value most in the game. SO he's got 2 out of the 3 skills i ALWAYS look for already.

Plus everyone knows gorgons and hydras are the most important units fortress has. And of course they will gang up on your gorgons, cause they are so important in the game, but they can usually take a beating. You NEED the gorgons to be really sexy with fortress anyway, and since they're usually gonna be a main target, you want to get them all the help you can get. And the plus one speed to them is a really welcome bonus too.

Not gonna comment on corbac, just that serpants are your fastest unit.

On your question it shoulda been more like, what hero would you like to use as your main or one of your mains, not only in the main battle. This is a misconception about the game - that there's a big bad main battle, and after that the game is done and whoever wins the big bad battle is sexy. I don't know if that's what you exactly meant here, but it certainly came across that way for me.

And guitarman, don't get offended this easely, it's not like he insulted you or anything, people are too sensitive lately :\.

I'm very sorry. It's just whenever people say that my contributions are completely useless or unwanted. Especially if I had positive intentions to begin with. It rubs deeper I guess. Happens a lot nowadays, so that's why I'm quick to express it.

well it's not useless dude. First of all it's your opinion. Second of all as I wrote in my post, it's hard for me to just give an answer when faced with an "end battle".

I'd rather have to read something in the lines you wrote (even if i don't agree with it), than just have a person just post the order of the hero preference.

That's why i didn't even look much at that thread this or that.

Now now boys, play nice
Next town - let's try Castle.

I always liked Tyris in this town for my Cavaliers to get that nice bonus. Failing that, the Griffin guy.

Hi all,

Well, normally I won't use the creature specialist as my main coz there are many decent choices around like those offense or log specialist (if allowed).

Anyway, for castle,
1. Tyris (speed bonus to your calivier means more damage inflicted by them, tactic is also a very good skill. The only drawback maybe the calivier dwelling would be built after portal of glory in rich maps)

2. Sosha (swordsman), crusader is a killer unit in end battle if used wisely especially they usually will last longer after your angels/marksman have been taken down.Offence works well with them as well.

3. archer dude/griffon dude
Marksman is really good unit. Speed 7 instead of 6 will allow them to shoot (depends on your unit deployment) before most shooters otherwise your marksman with lowly 10 hp won't do. But I doubt how many marksman will be left after one round or maybe they won't have any chance to shoot in main battles. Griffon has nothing amazing but they are very versatile and you will never hesitate to put them in the frontline. Griffon dude can make them survive longer and turn them into excellent longlasting cannon fodder.

4. monk dude
I don't think I will use this guy as my main under any circumstances.........

Just my 2 cents.

sorsha is defenitely my first choice hero.

The second/third choice is either tyris or edric. The fourth one would be the archer specialist and the monk one isn't really playable as a main (unless ALL your other heroes are eagle eye specialists or something of the sort )

I'll usually start with valeska(if i get to choose starting hero) or any other low level shooter specialists(ivor and jabarkas in particular) cos they give quite an advantage early in the game(1st week is IMHO all about archers).
Most of the time i'll let her fight some fights week 1, but usually i won't keep her as main except for the case when she's offered earth magic as a third skill very soon.
I like sorsha too, but rarely use her as main also.On rich maps(jebus, ring etc) i'll most likely find an armourer/offense/log specialist week 1 or begining week 2 and he can be my main(in any case i rarely use castle native heroes as main on those templates). On poorer templates where i cannot build portal of glory week 1, i would prefer tyris as main cos then my short term priority would be building cavaliers first. The +1 speed bonus can be very handy cos there are so many creatures with the same speed as the cavs/champions and it's always good to have the initiative in theese situations.Combine the extra hex added to speed with expert tactics and you'll see that you can melee attack any shooter. As for grunts, 6 champions day 1 week 2 can deal with about anything.
One other thing that most people forget about is the jousting bonus. This increases the damage the champions perform proportionally to the distance to the attacked unit.As tyris increases the speed by +1 it is obvious that when attacking a creature that's 10 hexes away her champions will deal more damage than usual. This can't be done normally with any other heroes(except Sir Mullich or if they posses an artifact thet increases unit's speed).
Edric is preety cool too, but often underestimated.I don't use him very often eighter.
As for "the monk guy" as someone said earlier, he can keep practicing that misticism of his in the tavern.I don't need a holly man to command my armies.

And why was there never a centaur guy??

Personally I like either Elf guy or Uni guy.

As i said earlier if i had the choice i would surely choose Ivor as a starting hero.Building elves day 1 and upgrading them day 2 you can easily take on horde, even throng walking dead week 1, also lots ogres for exemple won't be a problem especially if you have a sepent fly in your army
So ivor is my main choice here and i'll keep him as main if i won't find mephala or any other hero with some cool spec week 1.(latest begining week 2 cos by then with about 30 GE ivor will increase levels like crazy).
Ufertin(spec dwarves seems kinda boring to me cos anyway i'll prolly use the dwarves only in endfight in order to move faster on the adventure map)
No doubt, one of the coolest heroes in this game must be Ryland(spec dendroids). But for the fact that he strats with diplomacy wich is banned in online games, he's rarely used.I played some good games with him,got tactics and those trees could reach anywhere on the combat field so there was no escape for anyone.
Clancy is an average hero, but honestly i never used him as main.Same goes for the pegasi specialist(forgot his name )
So i guess in the end Ivor is my man,and not for the fact that he would give a great advantage in the final battle as the elves are the primary target for anyone there, but for the fact that he makes cleaning the map so much easier!

I would like to believe that during playtesting, a centaur specialist was too powerful.  I've also wondered why there wasn't a pikeman specialist, and then realize that they're the sturdiest 1st level units.  It was probably too much of an advantage.

Hello!
Can someone explain how these hero specials actually work?

For example , the hero with the beholder special , it says that it "increases the attack skill and defence skill of the Beholders and Evil Eyes for each level attained after 2nd level".

So , from what I understand , the Beholders' attack and defence should be increased by 30 ( not counting the hero's attack and defence skill )if that hero's level is 32 ( English is not my mother language ).

However , I've noticed that the Beholders/Evil Eyes attack and defence skill are increased when the hero reaches level 3 , then when he reaches level 9 , then level 15 and so on. So they seem to recieve a bonus every 6 levels , not each level attained by the hero after level 2 or every 3 levels.
