Of course, I know absolutly nothing of the Soviet Union. Just like nobody these days knows anything about WWII? Just not being there during the time of communism doesn't mean that I don't know those who were. And I also read a lot on the topic.

That is not to say that I am pro-soviet or anything, but the post-stalinist USSR is not quite as bad as people describe, and actually had many good things about it.

I will not post comments in this thread further, but I don't know what you call good. A generation of lazy and thieving people, a generation of people who cannot think by themselves, a generation of angry people ? There are so many prooves that it did worse than better things here, that it's not even worth starting discuss it...

Funny how you won't allow me to state my views on the grounds that I only lived in the USSR for 2 years, while you are not even from Russia and are speaking with great ignorance, clearly indicating that you haven't seriously researched the topic further than the propaganda your government feeds you.

What exactly is "A generation of lazy and thieving people, a generation of people who cannot think by themselves"? And which generation are you talking about? There was more than one Soviet generation. And on what grounds do you call my friends and family friends, many people of HC and other people you never met "lazy and unable to think for themselves"? So far, most ex-Soviet citizens I met were among the most hard working and with the sharpest minds, doing nothing but thinking for themselves. In fact, Russians are among the most independent people in the world.

But this thread is not for discussions like this. It's for comrades to chill together. Take your capitalist propaganda out of this thread.

First you say I am not a true russian, but you you say that I am angry because I am from the Soviet generation of which you speak? And you think I wouldn't be angry about an insult to my friends and family?

And where I told a thing about your friends and familly ? Do they live where I live ? I wasn't talking about russian people, like I would know how they are, were living. I was talking about generation of people here. Facts speak by themselves. You don't need to be a capitalist, green or other side person to see the difference btw the western europe and the rest of ex-USSR.

And I didn't say you're not a russian, I just said that if you cannot know anything about what's going in here and what causes "glorious" communism left.

I believe you live in Lithuania, and our conversation was about the Soviet Union. So when you stated that the Soviet Union caused laziness and lack of individual thinking, I assumed you were talking about Soviet citizens, and many of my friends and family members are ex-Soviet citizens.

If you were talking about Lithuanian citizens, how can you generalize this to the entire Soviet Union? Don't forget that you are only 19, according to your profile, meaning that you actually lived in the USSR for 4 or 5 years.

Now stop arguing: this thread is not for arguments!

On an unrelated topic, don't you just hate arguing about communism with people from the ex-USSR? They have no valid arguments and think that "Oh, I've been there. Trust me, it sucks."

I'm not even a communist, but I tend to argue for it when I feel that stupid points are being made by the opposition.

Wow, this has got to be a "truism"...

This is Martin Tranmæl. He was one of the leaders of the Norwegian Labour Party in the beginning of the 20th century. He also lead the party during its time as a member in the Komitern.

The reason I posted his picture, is that I'd like to share one of his more memorable quotes with you:
Quote:
What if some dynamite was left in the drilling holes; dynamite only the people on strike knew of? Don't you think that the strikebreakers would think twice before resuming their work?

Ah, 1912...

I hardly think so... But he became infamous for this statement. The conservatives of course didn't like it.
But he "sobered up" later, and became the party secretary of the social democratic party that governed Norway (with a majority in the parliament) from 1945 to 1963.

I think he learned much from his stay in the US, where he spent much time with the Anarcho-Syndicalist unions...
Speaking of American anarchists, did you know that ever since the Haymarket Processes in the late 1800s, the US has had a law prohibiting anyone who calls themselves "Anarchist" entry to the country?

I remember very recently some American teenage girl declared as anarchist and the govs gave her crap about it, but i cant recall what exactly it was all about.
