I have the original HOMM 1 CD (Win 95 Version) and another HOMM 1 CD (DOS Version) as well, along with the original box, manual, and creature/build card.

I have the original HOMM 2 with Price of Loyalty expansion.  I also have HOMM 3 with Armageddon's Blade & Shadow of Death expansion.

However, I did not purchase any of the HOMM 3 Chronicles.  I couldn't justify spending $20 for a single campaign, especially when there were so many unplayed user-created campaigns floating around (which were probably more professional and less-buggy than the Heroes Chronicles).

I drew the line on buying any more Heroes games after purchasing HOMM 4.  I am sure that to some Heroes fans, HOMM 4 is a wonderful game that provides them a lot of joy and hours of gaming.  Unfortunately, I could never force myself to adjust, even with my love of playing the campaigns just for the storylines and cool vids.  I still cannot figure out the reason for including difficulty settings in HOMM 4 (since the AI is still as irrational regardless) except to increase the number of random monsters and decrease your starting resources (good for multi-player, I presume).  Perhaps I will try to push through the HOMM 4 campaigns one more time.  It just feels like such drudgery (and even sometimes boring) playing them, as I trudge from scenario to scenario without much satisfaction as I progress.

I felt like 3DO was marketing unfinished products and overpriced campaigns just to suck my hard-earned money out of my pocket.  As a consumer, I do not feel as bad when this happens and I receive a quality product.  To me, at least, it appeared like 3DO was pulling out all stops just to squeeze some more money out of its loyal fans before they went under.  Nobody ever likes to play the fool.

Hopefully, Ubisoft and Nival reward the loyal Heroes fans with a quality HOMM 5.  I am not expecting the world, but I am expecting a quality product for the $50 to $60 I am prepared to shell out.

I also have several CDs with HOMM1 in various editions, and have wasted many a happy hour playing, and have installed it on one new machine after another.

My favorite is the one-and-only campaign, played as Blue (warlock), just the first few maps of it.

Gateway, the first map, I win on day 9.

Archipelago, the second map, I make it a point to never build a boat (though I may use one that the AI built for me). Get the income up to 4000/day in week 2, while some scouts go through the liths and pillage the desert for the other resources... No matter how many times I've played this map, there's just enough randomness to keep it enjoyable.

The wounded land (is that the right name?), I delight in solving the puzzle after seeing just one or two map pieces (yes, I've played it too often :-). At least I can pick out which area it's in and start conquering in that direction.

Free for All, so irritating to have all those AI heroes running around with medium-sized armies. There's a genie bottle you can get in week 1 if you've memorized the map, and then capture yellow's (or green or red, but yellow seems simplest) home castle in week 2, and the win gets easy.

The one-on-one maps are boring, so I edit them to have a hero with 99 dragons right beside the enemy -- finish these maps in one day each!

And the final one is nice. You can either conquer everybody (starting with yellow early in week 2), or stay quiet a while and then go beat the dragons.

I really must get around to putting it on my latest machine.

Just how many HCers actually have the original HoMM1 CD? Except me I mean.

I do. The original one, not from the Platinum edition.
I also have the CD of Might and Magic's 1-5, 7 and 8.
