New Handhelds?

Of what you know of the new handhelds, which out of the Nintendo Dual Screen(DS) or the Playstation Portable(PSP) do you like better?

The DS has been released throughout the world.
It has two screens which are touch activated with a small pen. One is for the map, and one is for the actual game. It has similar games to the PSP, has smaller screen, and lesser graphics. It does not play anything else. It has a few tricks like calendar, wireless chat (in the same room) and drawing like MS Paint.
Picture Here

The PSP was released for a few weeks in Japan in December, but nowhere else. The games are similar. It sports a very large single screen with good graphics controlled by normal direction buttons and/or small joystick. It has wireless play for >50m, and the discs are very durable. It also has a memory card for storing information, playing Movies and Music, and for loading and saving Game Saves.

I bought a PSP in Japan, making me one of the very lucky few foreigners to get my hands on one!
As you may have picked up from my writing above (yes I did write it), I much prefer the ideas of the PSP, for the graphics, the bigger screen, the wireless, the ability to play movies etc.
And I hate the Dual Screen, much like the guy who made this.

They both play games similar to the best of N64, or some games from PS2/XBOX/GC. For instance, on the DS only is Mario, a port from Mario 64 but with more advanced aspects.

On both of the systems, there is Dynasty Warriors, a port from the PS2/XBOX game of Dynasty Warriors 3, but changed slightly to go easy on the portable system, adding in more load points and smaller areas.

What do you think? Does anyone here have either of these?

I got a DS, well my sister does, and I like it, mainly because I can finaly use my GBA games (i have the original GBA without the backlight and all that jazz)

its too early to tell which system is beter, the backwards capabilities of DS to GBA is a major plus

but well see in a year or so which is beter, because there will be more games out for each.. not to mention PSP isnt out yet.

1 thing I like alot about the DS is the fact I paid 100$ for a self loading cartridge and I can just download games to my DS. I doubt you can do that for PSP.. but only time will tell

I've heard that one of the buttons on PSP was faulty, because of it being placed too close to the screen. Was this thing fixed?

Good links T-A!

I played my buddy's Nintendo DS a few months ago and found it just "ok". He had a demo of the new Metroid game and it looked good, but it was hard to control. I must admit, though, that I didn't read the manual and only picked it up for 10 minutes.

The thing that "gets my goat" about the DS, is that it has a very limited amount of games. I was going to buy my buddy a game for Christmas '04, but he doesn't like sports or driving games. So, that eliminated Madden NFL and Asphalt Urban. He already had Mario DS and didn't want Spiderman, so...that left me with the choice of about 2 - 3 other games.

That's just shameful!!! To only have 5 - 6 games available for your system at launch and then not to have more ready for Christmas...that is just poor planning & marketing.

As for the PSP, it's simply too expensive! I couldn't afford to buy an Xbox at $150 until I worked extra shifts and waited a few months to finally get it. So, if I wanted to get a PSP, I would probably have to pimp-out my wife!

Besides, these days my portable entertainment usually comes in the form of a dual-sided...rough-&-tough...book!

Yeah, the PSP has a U.M.D. as its games (Universal Media Disk or something), of which blank ones are not sold, and Sony went to the extremes to stop pirated PSP games from becoming available. But maybe you could load them onto a Memory Card or something.

Hm... I haven't encountered that.
Although the joystick on the side is off-placed and I find that slightly annoying, but it at least works.

Just bought a DS today along with the Mario game and have to say that I'm impressed.

You never expect the graphics to be that good on a handheld - but WOW...I was stunnered.

Now I just can't wait for some other decent games to be released...oh well; guess Mario will keep me busy for a while yet.

I seriously hope that you are talking about Mario the videogame and not Mario you're new boy-toy!
