Monday shooting at Red Lake School

Have you heard about the killing at Red Lake School on Monday?  A teenage boy armed with guns killed around ten people and injured over a dozen others before allegedly killing himself.  This is very much like the Columbine incident; it's just terrible.  My heart goes out to all of the victims and their families. I hope they will all find comfort somehow.

Please share your thoughts.

Peace,
-guitarguy

Havent heard of it. Probably cos i live on other side of the Atlantic ocean. So why did he do it? Well on 'this' side of the ocean some crazy teens killed other one with 'moves' taken from Mortal Combat(computer game you shoud know it). Btw some time ago(maybe5-8 years dont realy know) some teens that played too much Doom took guns from their perents and started killing eachother. Simply crazy.

Yes, i heard that this morning in the radio news. Very sad though, and i guess the "weapons for everyone, yes or no"-discussion will start again now.
Iīm against weapons for private people, but i donīt know much about the public opinion in the United States in that case.....

You Want To Know U.S. Public Opinion?

People will try to link/associate this incident with the Columbine massacre. I checked the details. The relation is not there; the details do not match, but the public will imagine this to be the case anyway. Public opinion will likely form from ignorant prejudice against White supremecy-oriented hate groups. Public opposition will grow and people will incorrectly start linking Timothy McVeigh, Harris & Klebold, and now this shooter.

I am optimistic that our newsmedia will do their best job to show there is no relation.

If there is any relation to be made, it is that this is a reminder that we need a more strict set of laws governing gun-control in this country. I support the second amendment but regulation is highly warranted and simply prudent.

Second Post.....blah blah blah....Oh Well....

So much for my optimism for media attention. They've gone mad with ignorance. After watching both my local news, CNN, and reading my local paper I highly suspect the Nazis are brainwashing our teenagers and sending them to kill their own schoolmates.

You know....I've been a stay-at-home-dad for about six years now. I've got 4 kids; each with their own set of diapers to change. My son was in diapers for 3.5 years; daughter 3; other daughter is still using; and the other infant I watch who is the same age as my youngest is still using. If I did the math and think about how many diapers I've changed since I got into this job, I'd have to say the figure is somewhere in the ballpark of 15 and 16 thousand diapers. You can take my word for it when I say with absolute expert certainty that I know a load of crap when I see it. I've lost trust in the media for now. I've even watched a program discussing whether to line schools with barbed wire and metal detectors out front. If they think that's going to solve anything then they have another thing coming.

This Massacre is simple terrible, however gun control laws wouldnt have helped mych in this situation. correct me if im wrong here, but the grandfather was a ex-cop therefor he would have had a right to a firearm anyways right?

Up here in Canada (Winnipeg about 4-5 hours drive from the school) I wouldn't be suprised if this turned into a whole school bullying caused this frenzy. the pappers have been riddled with school bullying for the past couple weeks now. because a teacher, caught some bullies and punished them.

http://www.cbc.ca/story/canada/national/2005/03/16/teacher-bully-050316.html

this could easily be linked, I've already heard reports that the accused kid, was bullied at school.

Oh my Consis, I do believe you made a funny! It was a really good one, by the way.

The weird thing about this shooting is that the kid first killed his his dad or uncle (a cop), then killed a few more cops, took their guns, and then DROVE THE POLICE CRUISER to the school! When I first heard about this, I thought it was an ad for a made-for-tv movie. Sadly, it sounds like life imitating art.

Wasn't the kid a native American?
Strange for him to be emulating Nazis isn't it?

Ahem, what drove him to do this could not be unknown. It could be either music or videogames, the main reasons for school shootings in the modern day.

Well, I hate to quote Micheal Moore, but I think he was right in this instance...

"Virtually all violent video games come from Japan. And don't they have violent movies in Germany or France? Yet, those people don't shoot each other to pieces."

From what I have heard, the most commonly accepted theory is that he saw the decend of his own native people, which caused him to be sucked into the Nazi propaganda of racial superiority and a strong leader to surpress all those "rappers and punks" that were bringing society near collapse.

You forgot to mention that a man in Germany shot a lot of people in his school due to videogames.

Hmm...

I have to say that whilst it's valid to point out the problems in other countries, the problem of levels of gun deaths in the states is quite a bit higher than the UK, even when you factor in the population differences. That really isn't the entire story of course, but it's better than implying that everyone else has the same problem.

I also have a problem with the idea that it was because of videogames. People who run round shooting people in this fashion have some rather deep problems that go way beyond an obsession with videogames. The deep-rooted cause of such an event is that the perpatrator usually has mental problems, and frankly if they were not picked up and treated, anything from violent films to the bible to D&D could have caused this problem had it not been videogames. I think too often people seek to find a scapegoat for the problem than adress it, and I see the way people label this as being because of videogames as a part of that.

Which is not to say that I think violent games are a good idea, but I certainly don't think you can blame solely them for these kind of events.
