Quote: If your revolution comes, could you please get rid of my Union in the process. I just dislike an institute which negociates a slightly higher wage for me and then takes away twice the amount that they negociated in fees.
The point about unions, in the Western world where wages are relatively high, isn't to get you ever increasing wages. It's to secure your job, by guarantee you juridical help if you're illegally fired, and to centralize wage negotiations, to make the negotiation of wages happen in a solidaric way - no one gets more than others in the same postition - and that the negotiation can make room for macroeconomical considerations.
EDIt: And Marelt, I never would have imagined that you were a union member!

depending on your job, it happens that in Canada you don't have a choice but to be part of a Union.
Just remember that if the union was not there, you could loose alot more than what they take in your pay cheque: you could loose your job, or be put on a shelf with no chance of advancement. Overtime would also be a big issue.
One question: did you have this union when you got the job, or was it forced upon you when you were already in the position?

Ah, the bloody democracy
Quote: Which is where the point of the philosophers comes in. Plato already established that in order to achieve true benevolent rule, philosophers had to be made kings or kings had to be made philosophers. The whole idea that carried over to Communism is that the workers had to be guided through the steps of Communism by an intellectual elite.
Ah yeah, Plato, the big name that everyone quotes when they feel like it cos it sounds so damn sporty..
Well, I'll adhere as well to this neo-PLatonist bunch, and I'll immediately say that I absolutely agree that he was right there when he said people, masses, cant rule themselves. They certainly need someone much more wiser and capable than them, preferably an Aryan race, unconditionally a philosopher (is there a better way to create the most benevolent job on Earth, than choosing your own), who will rule alone, under all other classes, who are created of lower value and whose purpose is to toil for their masters, the warriors and the nobles, and on top of that rules the benevolent king. Naturally, we, like our guru philosopher Plato, despise democracy, and held that if that day comes when voting rights are given to the people, the country will fall in bad morals, and eventually will fall apart, because people cant rule themselves. Thats why, my neo-Platonist friends, we must rally and fight against this evil called democracy. Plus, finally philosophers will find their use in society, for which the great Absolute created them - to rule us common folk. Ah, the bloody democracy!
PS: Plato didnt say that kings should deal with philosophy. Too unworhty.
