ROE: "Steadwick's Fall"

This is a dated topic, but I have to talk about it since it's quite interesting. "Steadwick's Fall" is the final mission of the first Evil Campaign in ROE. I had a hard time beating this level several years ago, but I've polished up since then. There's a time limit of 3 months during which I have to capture the Castle town Steadwick. Morgan Kendal guards Steadwick with a tough garrison minus Angels, so it's quite some opposition to face.

I was lucky that all my Inferno heroes had Diplomacy from the previous missions. Fortune knocked during the second month when creature populations doubled and I found the map swarmed by 'horde' stacks of Gogs! I absorbed a whole lot of them and upgraded around 900 of them. Kendal attacked me when I reached his territory with my full army, and my 900 Hasted Magogs really helped to slay his mighty army.

I last played this about a year ago and tried using secondary heroes to lure Kendal away from Steadwick, but it turns out my attempts weren't very successful. My weak heroes ran circles around the target, but the guy often came out to attack and had enough movement to go back in place. After many reloads, Kendal finally attacked my weak heroes and was stranded without movement points steps away from Steadwick. I walked inside and I won. The funny thing is that beating this one requires a lot of luck for perfect execution. I hate it when it all comes down to luck, but thankfully I've been fortunate from time to time.

If distraction doesn´t work, then u can weaken him with 2 or 3 other heroes.
Give them 5 or 6 single sultans each, go into the battle and cast Armageddon. Doing that 2 or 3 times, final battle with your main is pretty easy..

If I remember correctly, I was unable to get Armageddon in the game years ago. I usually have enough resources to max out on the mage guilds, but I don't think I ever got the spell for that mission. Thankfully, today's game went well enough that my army beat the enemy completely. Of course, I can't bet on getting another Gog-boom the next time I play this campaign.

I thought "Steadwick's Fall" was hard the first time I played it, since there were a lot of hostile enemy heroes and tough garrisons. I guess I'm better at playing now, so it ain't so bad after all.

Well,I captured Steadwick thanks to simple luck.I just took all of my armies two weeks before the time expires ,defeated the garrisons, and captured Steawick, because Gen.Morgan Kendal was visiting a windmill and left the town empty.

I simply had to resurrect this thread for the occasion.  I decided to replay the HOMM3 campaigns, so I quickly found myself facing this bothersome mission.  I beat it on my second attempt, since the previous two scenarios didn't leave me adequately prepared.  My Inferno heroes leveled up better than the Dungeon ones, so I used them on a whim.  It turned out that building up the Inferno town was a bad idea, so I restarted as Dungeon.  I managed to build the Dragon Cave and flag the external Red Dragon dwelling by the end of M1/W2, and boy, did it pay off later.  I knew I'd be up against a massive Castle army, so I planned to try the old Armageddon strategy.  Long story short, neither of my Mage Guilds came with Armageddon (I couldn't even get Dimension Door, Town Portal, Resurrection, or Implosion).  Luckily, I had amassed a decent Dungeon army by M3/W2:

100+ Evil Eyes
13 Black Dragons
50+ Minotaur Kings
13 Black Dragons
50+ Scorpicores
12 Black Dragons
100+ Harpy Hags

In the end, I succeeded in crushing the mighty Castle forces at Steadwick.  I owe much of it to producing Dragons from the second week onward.  The Diplomacy skill was less reliable this time around, although it did add 6 Black Dragons to my army.  It's been a long decade, but I'm glad to know that I don't have to rely solely on Armageddon or a legion of Magogs.

When you play 2 map build in all Dungeons max Mage Guild. The best hero to do Dracaddeon is Malekith. You need for him advanced Wisdom, Expert Sorcery, Expert Fire Magic and Expert Earth Magic, good spell power and Sultan Efreets(Better choice than Dragons)

When Ken is only left without any support heroes, attack him in castle. Split efreets to 2 stacks : 1 with lots of efreets and 2 with only one. Single Efreet block castle gate, destroy catapult with mateor shower, than just cast some armageddons until one stack is left. Blind it, cast earthquakes to destroy castle walls and resurect all dead efreets. Use hit and blind tactic until you kill his last units.

However you have to pass the gate which was kind of tough job if I remember correctly because it's antimagic so you need to have some other troops too in order to pass it

I chose an easy way, on previous missions it is quite easy to find random dd or fly, especially in the second one, so I flew ovet the garrison Hey, if the scenario was supposed to be beaten without magic, then they could just give Kendal red orb and place him in the city with no movement possibility

Ah ok. But the description says "Map and campaign making, MapHaven." Is the MapHaven distinct from a place to discuss map and campaign making?

Yes, this is all about maps or campaign reviews, and can also hold mapmaking tips. Quite empty at the moment, as maps are no longer being made for vanilla and we don't have anymore interesting game-play reviews as THIS, for example (pictures are gone)
