Cheating

I don't play homm3 online, but I do play Chess online; and the other day i encountered, for the first time, a player who I was certain was using a computer to make his moves (I have had suspicions before, but never such a certainty).

This made me wonder whether there has ever been a cheating problem in online homm3.

There are other ways to cheat than by hitting the tab key, as I've verified for my own curiosity in offline single player games, and I've seen that the game doesn't know that you're cheating if you omatically change your 14 centaurs to 14000 of them.

If there are people low enough to cheat at online chess, surely there must have been people (banned now, I hope) who have cheated at online homm3?

There were ind still few cheaters in  homm3
thats why we try to play noly players we know and if we dont know players well enough we just save everyturn
But i am certanly sure there is no cheater who make 14 centaures to 1400 it is 2 easy to find out But breaking rules is used to be conceder cheating but not anymore as  well reason for that that players have to many rules so it is just impossible sometimes to follow all the rules but there is still few possible variations of cheating
1) If u suiside u just leave the game and coming back with explanation that u were disconnected
2) save picking (some players leave the game aspecially to have a look at save and see how their opponent doing and what he god and etc.
3)people giving fake account or they have few accounts on which they report win and onother one for losses.

there is few more ways to cheat but i cant remember
There used to be way cheating in making ghost hero (u hero will be running very very fast) but almost everyone forget how to do it or they just lie i tried to find out how to do it but thy keep it in secret
so when u play person who u dont know just save everyday and then look over the saves
Some of the cheats are pretty easy to find out some u may need to have some experience
P.s i forget another cheat making map better on ur side Putting few good arties and etc. easy to find out as well just save day 1

good job spankelito, you delete my toss directed at you.

then you leave "hints" how to cheat in multiplayer games.

Do you think thats a clever thing to do?

IMO cheating shouldnt be discussed at all as it gives players ideas. We want a cheatfree community of HOMM.

was that ontopic enough for you spankelito? or does one have to give cheating advice here for that?

LoL...to edit a map or to look at saves is a hint? If there is someone out there who wants to cheat and doesnīt know about these 2 things, he probably should stop playing computer games..

I think it is the other way around. The more people know about these "easy" ways of cheating, the more they can proove it by themselves if their opponent cheated or not. If you donīt know what is possible, you will never catch someone cheating..

Youīre doing quite well so far

Only one more hint for you: Stop calling me like you do since a few days, coz i feel insulted named like this. You know my membername here, call me like that, or donīt call me anyway, but stop calling me "spankelito". Take this as a warning (see CoC for more infos), next time you will be penalized.

Have a nice day

coming from the moderator that has called me SS i dont take this warning seriously one bit until you start do what you preach.

As im sure youre well aware of SS isnt something nice to have your nickname resembled too. Yet you and others call me this way though i have on several occations say i dont like it.

Are we supposed to treat you differently now because you are a moderator?

But as i do as i preach, ill tell you this. You give the same conditions to the ones calling me SS and act on it thereafter i will start calling you something else.

I looked for template info last nite as i made another template, and i must say your threads/posts were a great help, as are your n00b helping ones.

But if you think being a moderator gives you extra possibilities here you should rethink that little man. You are a moderator to lead by example, not to make library your own little playground.

Just so you dont think im talking behind your back i will discuss these things with valery aswell.

steven reason why everyone call u SS is because they taking ur first letter from each word and therte is nothing bad about it. everyone used to call me PP and i wasnt taking it as offence and u shouldnt if u wanna be called different change ur nickname like i did.

lol.. you might not have noticed pulsar, but there wasnt a special german nazi force called the "PP". Though there were one called the "SS".

And being called something that resembles to that is in IMO an insult.

As for lk.. i prefer being called Stiven. my friends here can call me Stefan. Steven and such i dont prefer but i can take it as a part of a joke/toss. So if i call you n00b i dont mind you calling me Steven, if im in the tossing game i must be prepared to take some aswell

Though i hope you do realise the difference between Steven and SS.

As for valery i call him that when we talk on MSn aswell so if he dont like it i hope he would have objected to it alrdy

LoL...

Perhaps i havenīt realized, but did u ever complain about someone calling you SS? At least i canīt remember recieving an IM from you about that. If so, u can be VERY sure i would respect that and make it clear to that person and to prevent ANYONE from calling you like this. I donīt treat YOU different than i would treat others here.
Thatīs why i "warned" you before, coz u probably think your "funny" names will be funny for the victims aswell. I told you, it is NOT the case, at least not for me. Now you know about it and could act correct. Nothing more.....and the warning is related to ALL "funny" changes of my name. Call me angelito, or call me "disliked mod" if u feel better with that, but stay away from your current path.....thx in advance

And it think itīs a very good idea to inform Valerji about that stuff too, but iīm pretty sure he knows about it already...

Btw....i donīt think u recieved your penalty coz of FIRST time using bad language and not censoring this, am i right?
Same goes for patriot_pulsar here. I informed him through IM and told him what fault he has done. He apologized and asked me to change it, coz he didnīt knew how to do it. So i did it, now he knows. And he recieved a warning as well.....so i guess all went well...and no1 is more worthy than you Stiven..

I'm surprised that online play was implemented in such a careless way. Many types of cheating were enabled that could easily have been disabled, or at least made more difficult.

The old game "Conquest of the New World", for example, already worked (even in single-player mode) by sending events to a server (so you couldn't use cheat-o-matic to give yourself more wood) ; the server either loaded a map or generated a random map which was then sent to the players, so there was no way to "make your side better"; and so on...

As for dropping connection to peek at the savefile, that's pretty ugly. It's even worse if somebody has two computers and loads the savefile on the other computer.

AT least they did something with the save file to make it less easy to edit than it was in HOMM1 and HOMM2!

I have to agree with this statement, as I had a major run-in with a cheater last night.

After dropping on our game around 5 times and blaming his modem, my opponent [SpaceCake (@ ToH) & Surpemacia1 (@ WW)] and I met for the final battle in Week 1 of Month 2...he was storming my castle and I was amazed to see that he had 13 Giants and around 32 Naga Queens!

When I asked him how he got so many high level creatures on the Skirmish random-template (which has no external level 7 dwellings and no second town same as starting), he stated these exact reasons as his explanation and said that I could even check the saved game to confirm everything. I was also surprised to see his Hero, who had 6 Knowledge, possessed 180 Spell Points!

Anyways, I finished the fight and barely lost (despite his massive cheating). I then told him to wait as I was going to check the file. Luckily, I had saved the game the first time that he dropped, which was on Day 5 of Week 2. I looked at his Tower town and didn't see a Cloud Temple, yet he already had 11 Giants and 21 Nagas on 4 different "jacked-up" heroes (who were at level 5-6-9-10 with 4-5-6-8 skills at EXPERT! )

When I asked him to tell me the truth, he lied. And when I told him that I knew that he was lying, he resorted to calling me a sore loser! I told him that I would have let it slide if he had simply told me the truth, but since he continued to lie and was being unreasonable, I told him that I had to report such infractions.

My point is that if I didn't read about "how people cheat" and learn what kind of nasty tricks are out there, I wouldn't have been any the wiser, I would have accepted defeat, and I would have reported a loss that I didn't deserve. This cheater, on the other hand, would have went on taking advantage of other people and possibly ruining their online experience. I'm just glad that I might have prevented that.

Obviously you have been around for quite a while and ive been taking this up on several occations earlier, which leads us to that your either A) ignorant and change the rules as when you became mod.. or B) a liar.

Which one i dont care about frankly.

But as you now are a mod and this warning has been sent out i do expect you too deal in the same manner your threatend me when someone calls me "SS".

Do that and ill stop calling you your names. And no i wont call you disliked mod either, youre attempts on self pity are just boring *yawn*

now go do some modding instead and the nicknames on you will disappear. Happy now or are you gonna cry about some toy that your neighbour stole when you were a child?

... hey Stiffler ...maybe u calm down a bit ... im not really an angelito moderator fan ...so believe me that angelito really didnt connect the "SS" by calling u a nazi ...for him it was only your first 2 letters of your (stupid ) name .

Common Steve ..we know this Library had better times with Kuma ...but angelitos is doin a very good job too.

If u want to discuss things about angelitos mod behaviour dont talk about things that are just not there.

I know your a nice fun guy, so please calm down a bit.

Maybe im just an ignorant noob, but I dont understand how looking at a saved game, especially if u drop during a game and take 3 minutes to look at a save is going to help. Areas of the map that havent been explored are still going to be hidden unless theres a way to load the save as ur opponents character. Obviously im missing something.....I just know that when I load up saves from old online games it loads up exactly the way it was when it got saved.

Also im unclear about tha map editing issue during a game. How is it possible? I understand that a map can be edited in ones favor before a game but once the game starts the map that "is the game" is part of the saved game file and is no longer a normal map file.

Someone please enlighten me for my ignorance is great

I would also like to know how to determine if one of my opponents has looked at a "save game". Plexus and I are playing a game right now, and I totally trust him, so my request is not directed at him...but as I said in my earlier Post, I have played some other people and they have either cheated in an obvious manner or they have dropped and/or refused to keep playing our "saved game", the next time that I saw them online.

Could it be that they looked at our "saved game" and saw that I was doing better than them and so they decided not to keep playing me...as I would likely have won in the end?
