United States President: 2008

Who could even say if they'd still be a member of Heroes Community in the next three years? There are a lot of young people who are members here and life for them is constantly on the move. This may seem extremely early to start talking about such futuristic events but you all know me. And you all know that I support Hillary Clinton 100%.

The very interesting fact for the next election is that there will be no incumbent. We'll have two new candidates for each party both Republican and Democrat. Other party candidates will surface as well. All though I don't think Ralph Nader will be coming back to run in 2008. He's getting pretty darn old! Since the last election there are a few who've already surfaced as possible candidates. As time goes on(and if you're still a member of Heroes Community in 2008) I'll add to the list of possible candidates. As the the list necessitates changes, I'll continually edit the thread to show the changes in the list. At this point the list is a bit small and looks something like this:

Democrats
Hillary Clinton
Bill Richardson
Barack Obama
John Edwards

Republicans
Jeb Bush
Bill Frist
Rudy Giuliani

If you would like to participate in this thread by adding some information regarding other possible candidates then by all means share it with us! I'll start by posting some tidbits of information concerning my candidate and continue to add other candidates' information as they surface for the race race to the White House.

But where the president, Is never black, female or gay, And until that day
You've got nothing to say to me, To help me believe

In America,

Any candidate will do for me, as long as they're radical liberals, and want to end this irresponsible unilateralism you guys have been up to lately.

As for who I think will win...
Probably some ultra conservative nationalist who wants nothing but to turn the rest of the world into a sweatshop for American corporations.

Looking in my crystal ball, I predict massive emigration from the US to Canada in January 2009.

I'd add Mark Warner as a dark horse Democratic candidate.  Democratic governor of a fairly populous southern state (Virginia).  He may end up a VP candidate.

Obama unfortunately probably isn't a viable option until 2012.

Hillary Clinton

In light of gossip/heresay/ and the always educational polling, I'd like to share a small bit of information with all of you fine gracious people:

A poll earlier in May of 2005 by the Quinnipiac University Polling Institute found overwhelming support for her 67% among New York voters, if she decides to run for re-election the following year. Among Democrats, however, 65% surveyed want her to pledge to serve out a full term if she runs, contradicting a 2008 White House bid.

~Exactly what The_Gootch had previously mentioned.

61% also said they'd like her to run for president. According to the latest poll, 55 % of respondents reported a favorable view of her, while 39% had an unfavorable one. The pollsters also asked respondents their view of Clinton's place on the political spectrum. 54% of all those questioned said they consider her a liberal, 30% a moderate and 9% a conservative, with a 3%-point margin of error.  Among registered voters, the numbers were virtually the same, with 56% considering her a liberal.

An interesting minor detail of her coming bid for election in New York is that Hillary served on the staff of the congressional Impeachment Inquiry in the wake of the Nixon's Watergate scandal in 1974. That could make for an interesting battle against her opponent who is his son-in-law.

Aren't polls just wonderful? It clearly seems most people consider her a Liberal in the political sense of the word. I personally consider her a breath of fresh air. I might also mention that I personally believe she would fare much better if she grabs hold of Anne Richards(Texas) as her future running mate. Together, the two of them could finally bring an end to this Bush dynasty that has taken control of the majority of our government offices; not to mention our department of defense!

Add Newt Gingrich to that list of Republicans, he doesn’t stand a chance, but still.  I saw something on him considering running, not sure if it was a joke or not.

She’s undeniably a liberal, what fools said she was conservative?

My guess would be she wins fairly easily.  New York is a very blue state.  Nixon relative or not, she should win.

I will never ever support a Clinton, especially Hillary.
1) I consider her as liberal as Ted Kennedy.
2) Wife of Bill Clinton…I don’t think I have to say anymore about that.
3) Supports Universal Healthcare, it won’t work.
4) Voted NO on criminal penalty for harming unborn fetus during other crime. (Mar 2004)
5) Voted NO on banning partial birth abortions except for maternal life. (Mar 2003)
6) Gay soldiers need to shoot straight, not be straight. (Nov 2003) I think it should be up to the military leadership, not Congress
7) Address drug problem with treatment and special drug courts. (Oct 2000) Not practical, courts are already bogged down way too much.
8) Opposes merit pay for individual teachers. (Apr 2000)Teachers should be rewarded for doing a good job.
9) Voted NO on require photo ID (not just signature) for voter registration. (Feb 2002)
10) Tough gun control keeps guns out of wrong hands. (Jul 1999)That’s just a false statement
11) Voted NO on banning lawsuits against gun manufacturers for gun violence. (Mar 2004)How is it the gun manufacturer’s fault?
12) Nixon should have been impeached for bombing Cambodia. (Dec 1999)What?
13) “We’re better off than 1992; elect Gore & continue progress.” (Aug 2000)I don’t think so…

Once again, the most potent moderate republican candidates are left off the list.

What about John McCain???  What IS his party thinking by trying to fry him for spearheading the filibuster settlement to get the Senate moving again?  What's this "We're taking our dollies and dishes and going home" kind of attitude those boneheads are taking?

I am thorougly mystified and intend to go throw a tanrum about it very soon in "See Congress Implode."

Don't forget Colin Powell.  If people (including him) would GET OVER the fact that GW shoved his hand up Colin's Colin and made him do the phony presentation before the UN (his choice:  Resign and let GW appoint some dysfuntional extremist like Bolton or Goss) then they'd realize they're passing up the best president we'd have had in decades.

If Colin Powell ran for president i am 99% sure he would win.

Figure it this way - he is respected by both Democrats and Republicans for his views.

He is already well known in the political world

And, something most people will bypass, he may have a majority of the minority (Blacks, Latino's, Asian) votes just for simply being black. I know how alot of people think.

When asked about the Whitehouse regarding the Bush and Clinton different years in office:

"It took a Clinton to clean up the last Bush mess and it will take a Clinton to clean up this Bush mess".

"When Clinton lied, nobody died".

I can't wait to see Hillary run for office in 2008. I haven't got a clue as to what her v.p. or cabinet might look like but it sure gives me something to look forward to!

Ahhhhh yes.  Once again, the Democratic party is rushing to see how fast it can sabotage itself by choosing candidates most hated by the moderate and right-wing conservatives.

Can anybody say strategy?  I mean why do we even bother if we're going to choose candidates who insure another right-wing extemist getting into office just because (s)he's a little less hated than ours?  If we EVER had a chance to regain control of this situation, the time is now.  And once again, I see my registered party rushing as fast as it can in the direction of guaranteed failure.

My husband (Pub) and I (Dem) have both decided to re-register as Independents.  We're both pretty disgusted at this point.

Hmm . . . Well . . .

Bill Maher says he thinks Hillary can't be beaten in NewYork whilst never getting her party's nomination for a nation-wide election. He says it's because she's really a centrist in hiding. He says that the closer we come to the national election we'll start seeing her drift away from conservatives. This will inevitably cause her to lose the support of conservatives from both political spectrums.(or so he says...)

I think it should be noted that this man is a comedian and not anyone of any political know-how. The only reason I mention him is because satire has long been used to influence the public in national elections since the creation of political cartoons. This sort of thing has the uncanny ability to put a candidate in interesting descriptive lighting among common persons of undecided voting. I definitely think that's worth mentioning.

John Kerry is already running for 2008.  He has not given up his position as leader of the party.  And Al Gore won in 2000 (or, so many of us think).  He may very well run and win again.

Personally, I'm much more interested in 2006.  Congress is making some major messes right now.

just my friendly 2 cents ...

Holy ****

Well Bill Richardson has just declared a "border emergency". He's the governor of New Mexico and I think he was a Clinton staffer back in the day. Anyway this could score him some serious political points with conservative voters. He's the only governor who's finally stepped up to the plate and use his authority to do something about our increasing illegal immigration and crime at the nations bordering states. I say give the man a cigar. That'll get the president's attention whether he likes it or not!

I'm a Republican, apparently the archenemy and bane of many of you guys.
So I'll say my piece and then I'm outta here. (I'm no glutton for punishment)

Barack Obama my senator from Illinois (sadly), is very popular but I do not think he will run in '08. But I do think that he will rise in power and run for president eventually. I met him in Springfield one day, and he has the look of a president. He will become a household name, trust me. He will be very powerful in time.
He won in a landslide election for senator which made him look very good, but then again the Illinois Republicans are in complete and utter chaos and had to run someone at the last minute.
He was a very nice guy, I shook hands with him.
I don't want him for president but I would rather him than many other Democrats.

PREDICTION:
I think that Hillary is going to get the nomination for the Democratic party. I think a tactic used by the Democrat's will be first an appeal to women, and making men feel like they are sexist if they do not vote for Hillary and "not-evolving" into more sophisticated people. Expect "guilt trips" and talk about the inequal and underpriviledged women who have been demonized and preyed upon by men. The Gender card will be played so much you may never know what Hillary even stands on many issues. As such she will become more "moderate" to try to draw in conservatives.   She wants to know how the people stand on Iraq. If they support it she will support it with a "bring the troops home soon" clause. If she senses the people are not happy with the war effort she will cry out "We need a change!" She has already started this.
*shudders* And she may win, if she is able to convince others that women have never gotten the fair shake. And if she is able to influence "swing states"

For the Republican's I really do hope they go with Rudy Giuliani. I don't like Bill Frist, or Jeb Bush. I'm a Republican and even I admit I've had it with the Bush "Dynasty" Many people in New York City love Guiliani, which is an advantage. But will he carry the state? I don't think so. I grew up around Syracuse, and the economy is just bad news and it's been that way ever since. Nothing changes there, and nothing ever will. Many people are dependant on the government to do everything for em'.
New York State itself is moderate, but once you factor in NYC it doesn't matter the Democrats are going to win no matter what.
Same thing with Illinois and Chi-town (Chicago)

But I think in the end Hillary will win, and the U.S. will just get weaker and weaker

We will win "respect points" from other countries. And have them all say how great this is.
At least they will start to like us again, because we will be forever butt-kissing the U.N.

double post I know.
I guess I went a little overboard.
I guess saying that America will become weaker is too strong of a statement.
A more accurate (not to mention more PC) one would be that America will head in a direction that I personally feel may make them a lesser power if they are influenced by certain persuasions.

I've come to realize that no country is perfect. Many liberals told us to learn from the French, and see how open minded they were, and so I did, and then all this rioting broke out. And to be honest, I don't think the U.S. would be faultless if Republicans remained in power forever either. Bush made many mistakes. For example sending people to a foreign war without bothering to protect our borders was a grave mistake.

Right now I am really torn politically. I am a staunch conservative when it comes to social issues like abortion, guns, and all that, but I have started to become weary of these Republicans who are a bunch of hypocrites. Especially Senator Spector of Pennsylvania.
He is a Republican in name only and I would rather a liberal democrat than someone like him.

I also think that the U.S. should stop acting like the world's police. I don't think we should care what other countries say about us, because we shouldn't care about them. They shouldn't have any say at all about how we run our government and vice-versa. The more involved we get in the world the worse we become. It seems like we send money to other countries to "show how good we are" but how far has that gotten us? People still hate the United States and are going to hate the U.S. just because of what it is. That won't change whether Hillary, Bush, or a homeless man named Joe is president.

Hello dkolb

Nice to see some new and intelligent blood around this place.

I for one enjoyed an appreciated your posts.  Have some questions.

What do you think about McCain?  He ranks right up there with only a couple of other people who could viably capture the moderate majority away from the wing-dings currently gripping both parties by the huevos. (As has been suggested, Powell is one of the others but he will not run.)

I am also an Obama fan (as is apparent from my posts) -- it's a shame the constituent mentality still does not allow the flexibility to contemplate such a Pub/Dem ticket as McCain/Obama.  Sure he's still very young but how old was Bobby Kennedy when he was appointed the Attorney General for the US???  Younger still than Obama I think.  Obama's age appears to have little to do with his intellectual, political and diplomatic skills, which are already more highly developed than most of the seniors in Congress.

hmm yes it would be interesting if Republicans and Democrats could do what they used to do and have The President be Republican or Democrat and the other VP represent the other party. It used to be that way.

It just seems that the parties are so mean-spirited against each other that that won't work anymore.

I mean you have one side calling for Bush's assassination, and the other calling the Democrats "cowards" and "communists" for not supporting the war. The differences seem to not be able to be reconciled, unfortunately. I know democrats and republicans who could work out like that but the problem is many of both parties make things so personal. "Bush is an idiot" comes to mind. Instead of attacking the man's foolish decisions, they attack him personally. Even the words "conservative" and "liberal" seem to make people wince, because they have been taught to hate the other.
One especially disturbing thing I find is when my party claims it is "God's party".
As a Christian I find this extremely offensive. Did the party consult God and get his opinion? As a Christian I believe that God is sovereign and not my party. But by using that mantra I am saddened to see many of my fellow Christians buy into that belief without first looking at both sides. Just as the crusaders did not stand for God during the crusades neither do the Republicans or Democrats stand for God now. He stand for Himself.

As for Mccain he is a very interesting moderate fellow. He is one of the few of my party that is well respected by the media. One concern I have with him is that he seems to be in cahoots with other moderate republican's in spending. They are spending insane amounts of money and wasting it even worse than the democrats. A great example I don't know if you have heard of this but it was called "The Bridge to Nowhere" and it was a $256 million dollar bridge connecting to a 500 population town in Alaska. This was proposed by a Republican and we don't have enough money to spend of junk like that.
He doesn't seem to be as bad as the guy who did that, but....
Spector I don't know if you heard about this is a big Philadelphia Eagles fan, and you may have heard about on of their stars, Terrel Owens being put on suspension. Well Spector I guess as a PR thing spent time trying to find a loophole so that TO could play for the eagles again. So apparently my republican friend is WAY to busy to begin hearings on Sam Elito (Is that how it is spelled) but has more than enough time to waste on his favorite sports team.
But I digress.
Do I believe Mccain will run in 08? He might but I don't think so. The reason is that he would lose the love of the news media who will now consider him a serious threat.

As for Obama, all I can say as I depise his politics, but I am extremely impressed with him on a personal level. He is EXTREMELY intelligent. Already I believe he is smarter than the majority of his peers, and very courteous and kind. Having met and talked with him I wish he was on our side to be honest, and I do think he will run for president but I think the dems will keep him under wraps for 08. Hillary wants this too bad, she is out for blood and she would try to undermine Obama thus slightly hurting his chances when he decides to run again. However that being said I would not be suprised to see him as a Vice President even in 08.
Obama will be an Ace in the Democrats sleeve and they will call on him in their darkest hour and he will deliver.
