Last I hear Jeb had definitively stated he was NOT running and expressly stated for everyone to leave him out of the debate.

Peacemaker,

He is Catholic, a Bush, and simply too powerful to ignore. He is my greatest fear for the next election, whether he says he is running or not. I like to plan for the worst.

You're afraid of Jeb Bush?  I guess I'm a little confused.   He doesn't seem to be that big of a player to me.  Anyway, you said you like to plan for the worst and yet you would vote for Hillary Clinton, the epitome of "worst".
We need a president who will go forward in the name of security for the United States, not backward as she will certainly do.

A Giuliani vs. Clinton race would be very interesting to watch play out.  I already think Giuliani will lose that race and the U.S. will be worse because of it, but I won't lose hope.

Hmm . . .

Possibly but . . . they both have some very hard to ignore idiosyncrasies. Hillary is haughty, a bit paranoid, and slightly arrogant. Rudolph isn't a very intelligable speaker. He often says things that are a bit confusing and speaks with a lisp compounding some of his rare verbal tangents.

Watching them in a debate wouldn't be very entertaining because Hillary is so dominant that she'd barely let him get a word in edgewise whilst he on the other hand might say something brilliant and profound that many people may not understand when he says it. The whole debate would be difficult to follow in my opinion.

Jeb Bush on the other hand has none of their weaknesses. He is very well spoken, easy to understand, and always touches on basic rules of simplistic governance. He is easily the most amicable, non-dominating communicable conservative in the country. He is assertive, firm, and extremely reliable.

Hi Consis it is good to see you are still around.
I was just wandering for the record for those who do not know you too well (including me) You said in the openig post of the thread that you support Hillary 100%.
What is it that you admire about her and what do you think are her chances?
Also i am wandering about Arnie. Has there been any changes in US legislation that allows someone who is foreign born to run for President.
I shudder to think of Arnie being president but i would like to know to what extent is this possible in the future.

This Is Exactly What I Said About Kerry ! ! !

Yesterday at Pasadena City College in California he said that people who study their education, and get smart will do well . . . if you don't, then you get sent to Iraq.

This is the problem with Kerry that I've been talking about all along. He is a person who really thinks it's ok to demean a soldier. If he ever became president I know people would start spitting on soldiers all over again. No one would listen to me. Everyone wanted to say he was born to be president or that he was a "flip-flopper" or that he was a liar about his service time in Vietnam because of those traitorous "Swift-boat captains". He was never a flip-flopper, or a dishonorable soldier, or some guy who's been born and raised to be president! He's just a guy; a man not unlike any other; with his own set of strengths and weaknesses. So what about that! It doesn't matter! It's his choices that should be looked at. He chose to oppose the Vietnam war by attending protests and rallies with Jane Fonda! He even gave a speech to a congressional panel describing events as he saw them with colorful terms such as "reminiscent of Ghengis Khan". This is a man who has never liked the military! If people thought Clinton made too many military cutbacks, just wait and see if Kerry ever became president! Our global enemies would smell it, like a dog can smell fear, and we would be even more open to attacks from those who would seek to kill us simply because we're American.

I wouldn't vote for Kerry before and I certainly will never vote for him in the future. If he wants to be a U.S. senator then I have no problem with it . . . but he has no business serving as the commander and chief of our armed forces. I like the guy, truly I do, but we need a president who won't send a message for the hippies to come back. I hate hippies. I will fight for their rights as citizens and human beings but I will never support their philosophies or causes. I would rather die than let my vote go to a hippie. That's just what we Americans need . . . the foundation for a future American Caligula.

I absolutely love that quote.

Btw, after you say something like that, do any of you ever stop to think about what you just said?

I know that Australia, for example, is pretty well off. I've never heard of Aussies having a huge military either. Yet... I haven't heard of any "global enemies of Australia" "seeking to kill them just because they are Australians". For some reason I've never even heard an Aussie talk about "their global enemies". Weird, eh?

I hate to be the bearer of bad news...

I think most Aussies don't feel this way, because we are multicultural and have some brain between our ears, however...

That is contradicted by the fact that Howard {prime minister} keeps getting re-elected.

He is in Bed with Bush to the extent that there are Hire Campervans here with artwork depicting sexual acts between the two  Honestly!!!

We have  limited Armed Forces becuase of our low population/area ratio, so I guess this is why they keep in his pocket...

Anyway - we are involved in all of his military strikes {bush}, and our best troops are the ones that are there...  This is really a worry...

I think most Aussies try to ignore our involvement because it is an embarrassment, or a contential issue...

We are "Alert not Alarmed" though

Btw we have lost quite a number of people in terroist attacks in Indonesia which is very sad, and does support the view that we should be participating in this '?' whatever this is that is going on right now...

Thanks for the info It is good to know that most Australians have some brain between the ears, but that's details. This wasn't my main point

I was going to say "Canada" at first, but I could see something like this coming: "WELL, NOONE WANTS TO KILL CANADIANS BECAUSE WE, AMERICANS, PROTECT YOUR COUNTRY!!! USA!!! USA!!! USA!!!" So, I decided to replace Canada with Australia

Edit: it sucks that the current Australian and Canadian governments are trying to drag their countries into meaningless wars.

Gee Consis, I didn't realize you hated me so much. I was a hippie then, and to a large degree I'm still a hippie.

The way I see it, anyone who is now in their 50s or 60s who wasn't against that stupid war is highly questionable. If they actually favored that war, it makes me wonder if they were a warmonger, a blind nationalistic sheep, or just plain stupid.

Did you know at the end of that war I got a big packet in the mail? I read a couple paragraphs, then threw it in the trash. In another time, it might have been quite an honor, but back then I felt like I was insulted. Yep, my invitation to West Point went straight to the trash. I mean did they think I was a freekin idiot or what?

In response to a blanket statement that you hate hippies and would rather die than vote for one, I say this. Don't speak of things you have no concept of because you weren't even alive when it happened. Walk a mile in their shoes and their era before making such strong statements.

You will never support their causes? OK, from now on your daughter will wear a blouse and skirt to school (even when it's -25 degrees in the winter).  She will study home economics in school. She will learn to cook and sew in preparation for when she becomes a housewife. And of course when she becomes a housewife, she will learn to keep her mouth shut if her husband beats her. And since she might not marry right away, she will also learn typing, dictation, shorthand and other secretarial skills. After all, secretarial, nursing and serving tables will make up 95% of the career opportunities open to her.

Blacks have to sit in the back of the bus. 18-20 year old soldiers will not be old enough to vote for the "leaders" who send them off to be butchered in a war. A girl who gets pregnant will be swept away in the night to have a forced abortion with a coat hanger, or a forced adoption.

I could go on and on about these hippie causes you hate so much. Instead of hating hippies, you should thank them. Because without them, you most likely would not be living the lifestyle you currently live. Stay at home dad? You gotta be kidding me!!!

what is this whole registered voter thing?

here you either are of age and get to vote (with exceptions of distance and/or health issues) or you are not ...its also illegal not to vote, but that is a whole different issue (probably)

i am just curious, not trying to do my usual american bashing act

Binabik,

My parents were hippies. I harbor a lot of resentment for hippies. Perhaps some small number of hippies came out of that era with honor such as yourself. I am willing to bet that your hippie-status didn't prevent you from getting a real job, working, studying the nature of this country's laws, trying to understand our system, and teaching what you learned to others coming of age and knowledge. I am willing to bet that you didn't become hopelessly mired in a neverending cycle of drug addiction, child neglect, petty meaningless quarrels with outspoken neighbors, and spousal abuse. I am willing to bet that you share no philosophy with the sickening cults that used women as sexual missionaries and children as monarchical secular monastic playthings. I'm also willing to bet that you aren't some anarchist orgy drug dealing nutcase.

Maybe you did some drugs. So what. Perhaps you wore the sacred tye dye psychedellic colors, and let your hair grow long. Perhaps you drove a mutli colored van with the back seats torn out, plush red velvet carpetting put in, and a disco ball hung from the ceiling. Maybe you went to some concerts and had meaningful philisophical debates among hitch-hiking long-haired anti-war activists. So What. Maybe you had sex with several different partners unprotected. I don't care. By these criteria, you may indeed claim yourself to be a "hippie". But . . . for whatever reason . . . you seem to be well adjusted to society, not simply concerned about civil liberties and rights but also actively participating in peaceful protests, petitions, and voting. You seem to have spent some time carefully reading the constitution and many other of our laws. Things like that are important to you . . . much like many Americans.

However, don't start thinking your are a majority representative of the hippies. Because most were like my parents and became hippies simply to rebel against authority, have sex at an early age, use drugs with impunity, and create cults to manipulate others. To you I give respect because you are clearly a very well adjusted and concerned patriot . . . but to those like my parents and most other hippies . . . I use every vote I have to put them in their rightful disillusioned place. The majority serve no purpose in society. They reject authority, reject ALL(no exceptions) traditions, seek unreasonable/immoral/unprotected sex, seek drug experimentation, and all at the expense of other people who might not agree with their philosophy. I believe the word selfish accurately describes the majority of these people.

It's stuck in Iraq

It isn't a shot at the troops.  It's a well-deserved shot at Bush.

Seriously, this is sloppy work Consis.  Learn to quote please.

Edit:  And it's about damn time he grew a pair and dealt with these scoundrels head on.  Being smart doesn't mean you are above getting your hands dirty with the blood of your enemies.

I Know What He Said . . .

And I also know people that share the sentiment . . . popular community citizenry such as veteran school teachers. I'm talking about people that think this country is comprised in this formula:

Executive Branch + Legislative Branch + Judicial Branch + People they serve = U.S.A.

--notice anything missing from this formula? I don't see a military in there, do you? Whether he meant what he said or not, he said it in such a way that reminded me of what I dislike about some Americans whose national identity equation mirrors the above formula.

Does anyone here watch "The Daily Show"? They made an awesome statement about it. Something along the lines of "Someone who says something that *might* be considered offensive by our soldiers gets bashed while those who send thousands of them to their deaths become popular and win the election."
