Do you have any idea how many civilians have died in Iraq since the war started? Last count I heard a couple months ago was something like fifty thousand - so much for liberation eh? Moreover the WMD thing is and always was, nothing short of utter fabrication. To think that Tony Blair (and the US government following in his footsteps) could tout a 10 year old report by an undergraduate student as 'top secret intelligence' is absolutely mindblowing - Clearly they're not that stupid, I can see no way that this was anything but a deliberate falsification to prop up the already made decision to go to war. Also if you think Bush and co are such heroes for 'liberating' all those Iraqis and Afghanis, then maybe you should ask why they're not so keen on going to Burma perhaps? While you're at it, perhaps you would be a tad suspicious that the Vice-President is an ex-board member of Halliburton, which receives hundreds of millions of dollars of public funding to reconstruct the same stuff he supported blowing up in the first place?

On the original topic, anybody but Jeb Bush - the 2000 election was a joke and his unwillingness to allow a recount simply indicates to me that he has no respect for democratic process. The situation would have been farcical enough allready if it had simply been a Republican governor helping out his party, but your little brother?!! This is nothing short of corruption, and is unforgiveable.

/end rant.

I Didn't Watch

I hear that the democrats had their first debate today. I felt I was caught off guard. I usually get plenty of notice that these things are taking place. I didn't even know today was a debate for the 08 election. Something tells me I didn't miss anything though. The real action begins when we see all the republican nominees gather.

Giuliani is about to make his next big appearance since September 11th, 2001. I along with many other people haven't paid much attention to him since that time. I think it's a fair assessment to say he's kept his nose clean in the meantime. This is going to be one heck of a race. I'm particularly interested to see what he says about McCain. I love McCain but he strikes me as too old while Giuliani is a veritable powerhouse of trusty Americanism. I often think back to his campaign for New York mayor when he took to the streets and hammered those kaniving New York street vendors for all their dishonest means & ways. I liked how he did it. It made me think of him as not above the people at ground level. Once September 11th happened what did I see, but the very same man at ground level organizing and taking control in the wake of utter devastation. He was so unafraid and courageous. My thanks cannot be overstated for that. Just think if there had been no leader to step in and bring the people together in the face of horror. Things might have been different. Things might have turned into something more like that of New Orleans after Katrina; pure chaos and unecessary loss of life in the most ignorant and fear-stricken of ways. Where was the President of the United States of America when ground zero hit rock bottom .... and Where was New York city mayor Rudy Giuliani. And where was the president when New Orleans was overrun by fear? Where was the New Orleans mayor? There's something to be taken from all of this methinks. What it is exactly I'm not certain of, but I do know Giuliani is someone I trust with my life and the lives of my family.

It's still early, darlin...

Are you guys getting involved in your local campaign activities?

Here's the site to sign up at --  http://www.barackobama.com/

--click on "groups," (over at the right) choose organizations near you and sign up with them, and you'll start getting e-mails on campaign events and activities.  You guys can also add me to your "friends" list after you've signed up.  I'm in "Coloradans for Obama, "Yoga Lovers for Obama" and "Denver 4 Obama."  I've also tried to sign up for "Families for Obama" but haven't received confirmation yet.

Newsflash:  My husband officially changed his voter registration status from "Republican" to "Independent" last Tuesday.  If you look at the numbers of members in the Colorado groups, the Colorado group "Republicans for Obama" membership is one of the higher ones.  I thought that was interesting.

I'll send The Gootch a really cool pic of Obama shaking my son's hand as soon as I'm through here.  If someone will tell me how, I'd like to post the pic in this thread as well.

Hi Consis --

Actually, I tried to discourage him because I thought it was strategically unsound for him to remove himself from access to the primaries.  Now he can't vote against Newt if he should run, and can't throw his weight behind a more moderate Republican candidate either.

But he's so outraged at this administration and his party in general now, nothing would have stopped him.

Hopefully he'll come to his senses and not abandon his party because of a few bad apples.

Man, I hope like hell the newt doesn't run.  He's largely responsible for ruining the Republican party in the first place.  I don't think he can win the candidacy, but he can sure cause a lot of trouble.  I was really hoping he had gone away for good.

I'd like to see McCain and Giuliani on the same ticket, and I think that's a real possibility.  As far as effectiveness, I like McCain as pres, and Giuliani as VP.  But for electability, the other way around might be better.

I just ran across this. I didn't realize there were so many candidates. These are the number of "announced" candidates for each party.  There's a total of 115 announced candidates and several more potentials.

Republican 37
Democrat 28
Independent 26
Libertarian 5
Constitution 1
Green 0
NNE 5
Farm Labor 1
Reform 1
Humanistic 1
Other 4
unknown 5
none 1

I give up...

After searching for a couple of hours I cannot find any evidence of my brother's presence in the list of candidates.  I know he filed with the FEC.  Maybe he withdrew or was booted for failure to make a financial disclosure (you can't disclose what you don't have) or he missed a deadline, or some such thing.  However, I can't seem to find a complete list of candidates anywhere on the web, and the FEC's sources are so obscurely stored I can't figure out how to open them.

Anyway, it was a protest candidacy.  Call him a "fifth-tier candidate."

Perhaps Binabik can enlighten us as to where he got that list of numbers.  Maybe it would be a good lead.

LOL --

We did it again.

As far as my brother's party, he's kind-of a Ruby-Ridge Libertarian type.  I think he hates both the main parties and was thinking he actually started a new one when he filed with the FEC.  Next time we chat I'll ask him what's up with it all.

How the heck does your family get along with the varied political views?  My brother and I hardly talk any more and we are both with the same party, I'm just more moderate.  Let's just say we disagree on some things.

It takes a huge degree of tolerance and vigilance to family priorities.  Personally, I'm relieved that my husband finally threw in the Republican towel, and with a real vitriolic vengeance at that.  If it weren't for Barack I'd have done the same thing by now.  But I'm working on the campaign and all, and I intend to vote in the primaries.
