Let the black people have some comfort in it for awhile, what are you afraid will happen, that they will end up on the same playing field with you.

What if old whitey was in the line at the grocery store and started to "light up" at the notion that a white guy was going to be president? Would you run for the hills then? Everything is subject to review by several officials before anything is ever set to law.

He does not just pull out his magic black wand and say "Poof, now blacks have the same rights as whites!" (which BTW this is how it should be)

That's just it - no matter who is nominated - people will always have their own ideas about what that candidate might do in office.

There are probably a lot of chicks out there thinking that Hillary will become president and all men in power will lose their jobs and have to serve women without question... but would you say that because they feel that way Hillary Clinton should not be elected? No you wouldn't, because you have followed her, and you have looked into who she is

Why won't you do the same for Obama?

I am paranoid. I am afraid of what I hear people saying when their faces light up with glee from the idea that Obama might become president. They aren't talking about all these issues that are the "Measure of Man". They're talking about what it would do for black people. People wouldn't do that for Powell and he is a good man with humility.

Hillary Clinton's voting for the Iraq war is what it is. We were all lied to. She and all the rest of us were lied to when Powell was made to present his arguments to the United Nations.

I'm baffled.  I light up when I talk about Obama.  Millions of us who have come to believe in his style of leadership are not rubbing our hands together in glee thinking about all the awesome welfare programs he'll put together for black people.  Are you kidding me?  Many black people didn't even trust him at first because he isn't a descendant of a slave.  To repeat what I said before, he wasn't black enough in their eyes.

Yet you are dogmatically holding onto this idea that he'll pander to far left special interests and cut a check for all the bruthas.  You insist he will but you have no basis.  You insist Powell wouldn't but you have no basis for that either.  What's the difference between Colin Powell and Barack Obama?

Let's see...both of mixed ancestry...both benefited from parents that encouraged education...both struggled to work hard and succeed in a society where the deck was stacked against them....

Barack Obama is a moderate to liberal democrat and Powell is a moderat e Republican in the Eisenhower/Ford mold.

Here's the difference.  Powell knew what he was presenting to the United Nations.  He knew it was a lie.  For all the excuse making we made about the good soldier following his president's orders he still made the unconscionable decision to go ahead with it.

As for the lies, how is it that with a little research and back knowledge Wub came on here and told us that what Powell presented to the U.N. was false?  What special connections did he have that U.S. senators don't?  Do they all get their information from CNN and Fox News?  If that's the case we're really in a lot of trouble.

Pandora,

In all fairness who we vote for should indeed be based on a candidate's merits. I do indeed wish to look at the man for his qualities and the content of his character. In fact that's what I was doing at first. But then people that I know and grew up with, people whom I am loyal to and respect, people whose lives will always be counted as a part of my own identity....these people suddenly come out with an unbelievable amount of enthusiasm, praise, and highest regard for this Obama fellow! Mind you these people are of no extraordianry circumstance. They are average by any measure and have never spoken of a person in this manner excepting ONLY in the descriptions of their most beloved mothers, fathers, and best friends who supported them in the worst of times. Call it a heroes' welcome! So naturally I want to know. I want to know what all the talk and hype is about. So I ask them, "Please tell me! Who is this man you have come to love so greatly and what has he done for you? What is it exactly that makes him cause you to speak of him this way?" And when I sit quietly and patiently and listen to their responses I can't seem to get a clear answer from them. They say things like, "He's just so wonderful!" I ask why? "He is so smart! and is a good speaker!" I ask what they learned about him. "He went to a very good school!" I ask what he did to incur such devotion? "I just love him!"

Why? Why is he so great? What did he do? Why would my dearest friends and relatives speak of someone with such high praise, befitting an honor bestowed upon a real life hero? What has he done that is so wonderful that makes people love him? I get no straight answers, only surface feelings FROM PEOPLE WHO HAVE ONLY SEEN HIM AT PEP RALLIES! This is what becomes of my country?! This is how people vote for a president?! MY PRESIDENT?! A leader whom I will undoubtedly seek to serve in one capacity or another? Some guy that inspires people I respect to act like a bunch of groupies at a concert?! And for what? I ask, "What do you think he'll do if he becomes president?" AND WHAT IS THEIR ANSWER??? DO THEY SAY A SINGLE THING ABOUT IRAQ OR THE ECONOMY OR EDUCATION OR ALTERNATIVE SOURCES OF FUEL???

.....No they don't....they start talking about what? You guessed it, that race thing. "Oh with him in office black people will finally start getting better jobs and more opportunities and we can finally put that behind us." And who is this coming from? Are these people black? No. Are these people descendants of slaves having had stories passed down through the generations? No. Did they have some kind of civil rights movement that affected the whole country lately? No. They're just average 'white' folk. I am lead to believe that they are the average american middle class, upper, whatever....a bunch of people ready to save their own souls and bask in God's love for having taken an active part in helping out our fellow oppressed black person. Let's all re-live the civil rights movement. Let's do it right now. Let's use the office of president of the United States as a platform for our own grandiose dreams. Let's all put America back on the moral high ground.

The_Gootch,

You have your head screwed on straight. You've got your very well founded reasons for choosing your candidate. And those reasons are sound. All I hear from you is reason after reason for why and what area you believe your candidate can and will make the biggest impact and how that impact will affect us as a nation and as individuals.

I do have quite a solid basis for my feelings on Powell. I got this thing for soldiers you see. And let me tell you, it wouldn't make one bit of difference what color or background he has in regards to cultural identity. I have worked with men who were soldiers that were not American citizens but were serving in our military in exchange for citizenship. You remember that story about my Cuban roommate? (I know Pandora does) He is one. I also served alongside a guy from Italy who was seeking citizenship through military service as well. I have a good deal of respect for people who take the oath. I think you can understand that.

Consis. There is one important thing that you seem to be missing. COLIN POWELL IS NOT RUNNING. Not "running", but "not running". He is not an option. Unless you want to have the draft for presidential candidates.

As for Obama, just watch the debates. He's better than most of the others. He is definitely better than Hillary, Kucinich, or Dodd. He's slightly better than Edwards, Richardson, or Biden. Even he's even a bit better than the mighty Ron Paul. And he is by leaps and bounds better than any real Republican candidate (seeing as Paul is a libertarian). There is only one person running who is better than Obama: Gravel. But even he's not far better.

Edit: Now I think that Paul>Obama.

Uhm yeah... so Consis, in all honesty - do you think your way of thinking is fair? Should you really judge a person based on how you see them reflected in another person's eyes, wouldn't it be best to look at them through your own?

My President

I don't agree with Peacemaker. I don't agree with The_Gootch. I don't agree with Dkolb. I don't agree with Mvassilev. I would not agree with Wolfman if he were here. (this will be his first election to participate in) And I don't think anyone here agrees with me and my choice for President.

But.....

There is something all these people have in common with me. Within all of these people one can find no small amount of reason, logic, compassion, and genuine concern for the state of affairs within this great nation we call home. Each and every one of them has carefully taken great pains to look into the issues that are important to them. It's a matter of having the benefits of the history of the Age of Reason and of the Age of Enlightenment inherent in their persons. Some were taught it and others learned it but all of them most certainly have it. Here in this most unlikely place we find persons of the most commonplace settings taking up some of the most noble causes.

In here we often see someone spring into existence and blurt out a passing shallow comment having given absolutely no critical thinking toward what is being said. For them there is no due process. For them there is only what feels good right now and how it affects them directly. And to these persons we have given the name 'spammer'. And why? Well because it almost always seems like they don't really care what other people think at all. No consideration given for the good of others? How can this be you might ask? Well, actually, no one is asking and with good reason. Both they and their comments are dismissed as soon as they're posted, and in some cases their comments are hauled off (entirely) to that lovely void in the Wastelands. My point is no one cares when someone is shallow and ignorant in this place, nor should they. But what if you began to experience real people behaving like spammers? And what if those real people were persons of no small significance to your own identity and sensibilities? Well if you're me then you would do as I did, stand there in shock, telling yourself it can't possibly be that real people whom you place a great deal of intellectual and moral stock in....have suddenly become emphatuated with their presidential candidate. These people have chosen to make a mockery of due process. They don't need to look at the candidate's history or qualifications or otherwise because they've met the person, well maybe not met but they were within audible distance!

And where am I in all this? Am I to look at them and simply dismiss them as we would a spammer? Not in my travels, not after all I've seen and all the people I've met. I've seen more people like this than not. We're talking about people who have a job more or less, will never be politicians, yet whom pass down to their children the greatness of a little known nation selfishly called America. Where is the logic? Where is the wisdom of our founding fathers? Where is the wisdom of the civil rights movement's infrastructure and organization, it's educated approach to combatting the 'accursed thing's' grandchild: segregation? Where is my God that he should let my people betray their most highest office through groupie behavior? When power corrupts as it always does, who will they blame? Will it be that office occupant? Was it really entirely Bush's fault for his illegitimate war, or are We The People of a democratic society to share some of the blame and responsibility?

No, I won't stand by and let persons make a mockery of logic and reason. Rather than let some candidate slip in under the auspices of today's appropriately named *~celebrity status~*. I will fight any candidate I fear of being a possible godhead for fame and glamour. It just so happens to be Obama at the moment. I don't buy into the notion that he will somehow be the figurehead for civil rights that many people expect he would become.

I see, Consis. You concern is quite valid. No one should be elected because of celebrity status. But guess what? A candidate needs to be popular in order to win. But I'm not an Obama drone like some others. The reasons I like him are:

1. He doesn't want to ruin the economy like most of the Democratic candidates. (No excessive socialization).
2. He would set an example to millions of African Americans in poverty (to get out of the ghetto).
3. He's not a conservative.

As for the rest of his views, who can say? He is a politician like the others. You can't really pin them down on most of their views. No one really knows what most candidates' views are (except for most of the Repubican candidates', which is to turn the country into a Fascist Theocracy). And I don't really support Obama that much. I like Gravel and Ron Paul too. They all have their own problems.

But, Consis, you still haven't answered my question: Seeing as not voting for one candidate for one reason has the same result as not voting for another reason, how is not voting for Obama for your reason any better than being a racist?

I suggest researching a candidate's views and not worrying about who is actually supporting that candidate. If you agree, support. If not, don't support.

If you don't see it...

Consis --

You keep asking people around you what they see in Obama.  If you watch these speeches (recalling that Obama, unlike anybody else who's run for president in fifty years, writes all his own speeches) and you don't see it, then you will never see it.

http://www.americanrhetoric.com/speeches/convention2004/barackobama2004dnc.htm

(Obama unwittingly but completely upstages John Kerry during his keynote address during the 2004 Democratic National Convention)

http://independents.forobama.org/2007/02/announcement-speech.html

(Scroll down and click on "play" on the bar at the bottom to the left)

So what do we love about Obama?  Other than the obvious talent, intelligence and charisma the man exudes, I'll tell you one of the main things.  He is respected almost universally by Republican and Democratic leaders alike in the beltway.  He is a uniting, de-escalating force in Congress.  He is known for these qualities, whereas Hillary has neither any such ability nor such a reputation.

One of the most paralyzing elements in American Government today is the polarization of Congress.  If we do not have a president that is respected by the Republicans any more than the Democrats currently respect Bush (or the Republicans currently respect Clinton) then nothing will change.

I suspect that the reason you find the answers those around you give dissatisfying, it's because you are asking not to find out information.  I suspect it's more a rhetorical question, like, you already don't see what the big deal is.  The reason people's faces glow when you ask them why they support him is because he has that effect on huge numbers of people, including a huge number of Pubs.  People sense a gifted leader and diplomat when they look at Obama.  It's one of his great leadership qualities.

There's one more thing, at least for me:  Obama says he follows Jesus Christ as his personal spiritual leader. But it's more than that.  Alot of people say that.  He walks his talk. Watch him.  Listen to him.  You can tell he does his best to actually follow the example.  It's the element of his personality that I like best.

If you don't see it, then you don't want to.

POSTSCRIPT:  Just to be clear, before any of you comes after me for that last observation.  I am not a Christian.  I have never been a Christian.  But that has never stopped me of thinking of Jesus as my main spiritual leader as well.  Christianity is a religion.  Jesus is a man who set forth a pure example of what goodness in humans really is.

*sigh*

Yeah about that speech. I've seen it atleast 6 times. I had it recorded as part of the entire convention speech. I kept going back to it to see Al Sharpton. I recall one time I went back to it just to prove to bort that you can't harp on verbal slip-ups. Kerry had said something about using military special forces to conduct terrorist operations, then he corrected himself saying that he would use special forces to stop terrorist operations. The point is that speech by Obama still gives me the same feeling. It's all talk in my opinion. I want action. I want to hear something (but not limited to) along these lines:

1. The man became an activist and played and instrumental role in bringing home captured americans even after the president of the united states was unable. (Reverend Jesse Jackson)

2. The man organized, coordinated, and led a million man march on Washington D.C. to show that people care enough to really and truly make a difference in this country. (Louis Farrakhan)

3. The man took to the streets of cities where segregation was legal and used a nonviolent form of peaceful protest by conducting masses of people to march and give speeches and sing. (Dr. Martin Luther King jr)

4. The man governed a state. (Arnold Swarzenneger)

5. The man was mayor to a city. (Rudolph Giuliani)

You see what I'm asking for here? I am asking for more substance than making friends on both sides of the isle in congress or making beautifully written speeches. I want to hear how the man gets in touch with the people he would serve as President. I'm talking about on the streets in person to person connecting with us. What has Obama done outside the 'beltway' of politics and educational opportunity? He wants to associate himself with immigrants? That's fine by me. Look at Arnold Swarzenneger: an immigrant who became governor and is known for always taking his policies and programs for reform and governance back to the people! That's what I want hear about. I need to hear more substance in connection with the people. I simply haven't heard that from Obama, what I have heard is a guy who knows exactly what to say to large groups of people.

(Did you see the video I posted separately above?)

You haven't heard because you aren't listening.  You don't know because you haven't looked; in fact you turn your head away every chance you get.  If you want to see him on the streets, in the cities of America, talking to groups of people everywhere he goes, asking them what they want and need, telling them what he's done so far and what more he can do as president to help them get it, nearly every day since he announced his candidacy, then go to his website and watch him.  There's hundreds of videos there and reems of information if you really want to see what he's doing.  But my guess is once again; the question is rhetorical and cynical, and that you won't do it.  You'll just keep asking the same rhetorical, cynical questions and turning your head when people try to give you answers.

http://www.barackobama.com/

By the way, he's not just started doing this since he candidacy began.   He's always done it.

By the way.  Of course I'm sure you have some great one-liner for Hillary Clinton like the ones above.  For my life I can't imagine what it could be though.  Note that that won't stop you from supporting her as your chosen candidate.

He flew his wife and two daughters from Chicago to join him in a visit to his father's birthplace, a village near Kisumu in rural western Kenya. Enthusiastic crowds greet Obama's public appearances. In a public gesture aimed to encourage more Kenyans to undergo voluntary HIV testing, Obama and his wife took HIV tests at a Kenyan clinic

* took an active role in the Senate's drive for improved border security and immigration reform: Beginning in 2005, he co-sponsored the "Secure America and Orderly Immigration Act" introduced by Sen. John McCain (R-AZ).  Obama later added three amendments to S. 2611, the "Comprehensive Immigration Reform Act," sponsored by Sen. Arlen Specter (R-PA). S. 2611 passed the Senate in May 2006, but failed to gain majority support in the U.S. House of Representatives

* September 2006: Obama supported a related bill, the Secure Fence Act, authorizing construction of fencing and other security improvements along the United States–Mexico border. President Bush signed the Secure Fence Act into law in October 2006, calling it "an important step toward immigration reform.

* President Bush signs the "Coburn-Obama" Federal Funding Accountability and Transparency Act of 2006. Partnering first with Sen. Richard Lugar (R-IN), and then with Sen. Tom Coburn (R-OK), Obama successfully introduced two initiatives bearing his name. "Lugar-Obama" expands the Nunn-Lugar cooperative threat reduction concept to conventional weapons, including shoulder-fired missiles and anti-personnel mines. The "Coburn-Obama Transparency Act" provides for a web site, managed by the Office of Management and Budget, listing all organizations receiving Federal funds from 2007 onward, and providing breakdowns by the agency allocating the funds, the dollar amount given, and the purpose of the grant or contract (which I have linke above someplace)

* 2006: "Audacity of Hope" is published

*December, 2006: Obama joins Sen. Sam Brownback (R-KS) at the "Global Summit on AIDS and the Church" organized by church leaders Kay and Rick Warren. Together with Warren and Brownback, Obama took an HIV test, as he had done in Kenya less than four months earlier. Obama encouraged "others in public life to do the same" to show "there is no shame in going for an HIV test."

* December 22, 2006: Bush signs into law the "Democratic Republic of the Congo Relief, Security, and Democracy Promotion Act," with Obama as its primary sponsor

* On the first day of the Democratic-controlled 110th Congress, in a column published in the Washington Post, Obama called for an end to "any and all practices that would lead a reasonable person to believe that a public servant has become indebted to a lobbyist." He joined with Sen. Russ Feingold (D-WI) in strengthening restrictions on travel in corporate jets to S.1, the Legislative Transparency and Accountability Act of 2007, which passed the Senate with a 96-2 majority.

* Obama joins Charles Schumer (D-NY) in sponsoring S. 453, a bill to criminalize deceptive practices in federal elections, including fraudulent flyers and automated phone calls, as witnessed in the 2006 midterm elections

* Obama's energy initiatives scored pluses and minuses with environmentalists, who welcomed his sponsorship with Sen. John McCain (R-AZ) of a climate change bill to reduce greenhouse gas emissions by two-thirds by 2050 (but were skeptical of Obama's support for a bill promoting liquefied coal production)

*  Also during the first month of the 110th Congress, Obama introduces the "Iraq War De-Escalation Act," a bill that caps troop levels in Iraq at January 10, 2007 levels, begins phased redeployment on May 1, 2007, and removes all combat brigades from Iraq by March 31, 2008

* 2005 article in the British journal New Statesman lists Obama as one of "10 people who could change the world." Three months into his Senate career, and again in 2007, Time Magazine names Obama one of "the world's most influential people."

* February, 2007:  Obama announces presidential candidacy; unprecedented grassroots campaign springs up across the nation nearly overnight.  Over a million sign into Obama's facebook within a few days of announcement.

* First half of 2007:  Obama's campaign raises US$58 million, topping all other candidates and exceeding previous records for the first six months of any year before an election year. Observing that $9.7 million of his $33 million in second quarter donations came from contributions of $200 or less, the Los Angeles Times commented that it was "an unusually large number and one that surprises campaign finance experts."

* May 2007: Rasmussen polling organization reports in May 2007 that 49% of Americans consider it "somewhat likely" or "very likely" that Obama will be elected

* Also in May and again two months later, Zogby International reported that Obama leads all prospective Republican opponents in polling for the 2008 general election

Hillary Clinton biographical history:

Well that tears it.  I just spend over two hours putting together a synopsos of Hillary and then accidentally clicked "reset fields."

Whole damn thing got wiped out.  I was almost done, too.

Bah.

Being afraid that president Obama is going to cut reparation checks to the descendants of slaves is like saying president Richardson is going give the SouthWest back to Mexico or at the very least give amnesty to all illegal hispanic immigrants.

Give me a break.

The_Gootch,

I've many reasons why Obama shouldn't be president. I could try and sum all of my posted reasons into a short list if you want.

This is for you Peacemaker
Barack Obama biographical history:

* Born in Honolulu, Hawaii to Barack Obama, Sr. (born in Nyanza Province, Kenya) and Ann Dunham (born in Wichita, Kansas)
Yup

* Parents separated when he was two years old and later divorced
Yup

* Mother married Lolo Soetoro, an Indonesian foreign student, with whom she had one daughter, Maya
Yup

* Family moved to Jakarta in 1967, where Obama attended local schools from ages 6 to 10
Jakarta? Isn't that one of the highest concetration of muslim populations in the world? I remember my childhood during the same period: It had a very large impact on me.

* Returned to Honolulu to live with his maternal grandparents while attending Punahou School from 5th grade until his graduation in 1979
Some good news. Hawaiins are good people.

* After graduating from Punahou, Obama studied at Occidental College for two years, then transferred to Columbia University, where he majored in political science with a specialization in international relations
Columbia University? My favorite history professor, Simon Schama, worked there.

* Received B.A. degree in 1983, then worked for one year at Business International Corporation
Congratulations on earning your business degree!

* In 1985, Obama moved to Chicago to direct a non-profit project assisting local churches to organize job training programs
Finally something worth reading! I will do some checking into this. This definitely qualifies as substance!

* Entered Harvard Law School in 1988
A smart guy. He must've made the attendance quota for people of his race. Many schools are required to have a certain number of ethnically diverse students.

* 1988: while employed as a summer associate at the Chicago law firm of Sidley & Austin, Obama met Michelle Robinson, who also worked there
A trophy wife, not at all in touch with people on the streets, nothing compared to many of the other candidate's wives(most notably: Elizabeth Edwards)

* 1990: Obama elected as Harvard Law Review's Editor-In-Chief
Popular among the 'elite'. Knows how to make friends with upper class people.

* Completed his J.D. degree magna cum laude in 1991
Incredibly bright and dedicated to his performance

*1992:  Obama marries Michelle Robinson
Good for him

* Returned to Chicago, where he directed a voter registration drive which registered hundreds of thousands of voters
An excellent start to public service. Only slightly substantial.

* 1993-1996: Associate attorney with Miner, Barnhill & Galland, representing community organizers, discrimination claims, and voting rights cases
Not only smart and educated but also successful businessman. Does it mention how attorneys get to choose the cases they take on? You see this is the same problem Edwards has.

* 1993-2004: constitutional law professor at the University of Chicago Law School
Thanks for giving back to the community! Doesn't necessarily qualify one for the office of President of the United States of America.

* 1995 memoir, Dreams from My Father, is published
You mean the Father he never knew? Ok sure.

* 1996: Obama is elected to the Illinois State Senate from the state's 13th District in the south-side Chicago neighborhood of Hyde Park (where he previously did community organizing)
Again finally something of substance. The problem with this is the same problem most every senator has in running for the Presidency. I have a theory why senators don't usually get elected but nothing has ever been proven to be historically accurate with regard to American traditional electing tendencies.

* 1999: daughter Malia is born
Something I can relate to.

* 2000: Obama makes unsuccessful Democratic primary run for the U.S. House of Representatives seat held by four-term incumbent candidate Bobby Rush
Good to finally meet America head on. We Americans learn alot from our defeats and losses.

* Overwhelmingly reelected to the Illinois Senate in 1998 and 2002
His constituents like what he SEEMS to represent and his voting record.

state legislator accomplishments include:

* State Earned Income Tax Credit

* expansion of early childhood education

* legislation requiring the videotaping of interrogations and confessions in all capital cases

* work with both Democrats and Republicans in drafting bipartisan legislation on ethics and health care reform

Truly an accomplished senator. I know you like polls. Have you seen how Americans are feeling about Congress in comparison to the President lately? I believe his ratings are higher even with everyone who hates him.

* 2001: daughter Natasha ("Sasha")is born
Two daughters? I can relate to this as well. I have two daughters. (both of his daughters go to private schools)--John Edwards is the only democratic candidate whose children go to public schools. I believe Obama said at the last debate, "It's easy for a senator to get his kids into private schools."

* 2002: Obama's vociferous denouncements of proposed Iraq war begin, to continue for the duration
Good. We need every able-bodied american to bring our troops home safe.

* In the November 2004 general election, Obama received 70% of the vote in a landslide election. Sworn in as a Senator on January 4, 2005
Still a senator? He must have a good voting record.

Federal Senate accomplishments

* member of the Senate committees on Foreign Relations; Health, Education, Labor and Pensions; Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs; and Veterans' Affairs; and the Congressional Black Caucus

* sponsored 152 bills and resolutions brought before the 109th Congress in 2005 and 2006, and cosponsored another 427

* his first bill was the "Higher Education Opportunity through Pell Grant Expansion Act."[66] Entered in fulfillment of a campaign promise, the bill proposed increasing the maximum amount of Pell Grant awards to help students from lower income families pay their college tuitions (the bill did not progress beyond committee and was never voted on by the Republican-controlled Senate)

* August, 2005: Obama travels to Russia, Ukraine, and Azerbaijan with Sen. Richard Lugar (R-IN), then Chairman of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee. The trip focused on strategies to control the world's supply of conventional weapons, biological weapons, and weapons of mass destruction, as a strategic first defense against the threat of future terrorist attacks

* Late 2005: Obama begins podcasting from his U.S. Senate web site, responding to and personally participating in online discussions hosted on politically-oriented blog sites

* January, 2006: Obama joina a Congressional delegation for meetings with U.S. military in Kuwait and Iraq. After the visits, Obama traveled to Jordan, Israel, and the Palestinian territories. While in Israel, Obama met with Israeli Foreign Minister Silvan Shalom. Obama also met with a group of Palestinian students two weeks before Hamas won the January 2006 Palestinian legislative election. ABC News 7 (Chicago) reported Obama telling the students that "the U.S. will never recognize winning Hamas candidates unless the group renounces its fundamental mission to eliminate Israel," and that he had conveyed the same message in his meeting with Palestinian authority President Mahmoud Abbas

* June 2006 podcast: Obama expresses support for telecommunications legislation to protect network neutrality on the Internet, saying: "It is because the Internet is a neutral platform that I can put out this podcast and transmit it over the Internet without having to go through any corporate media middleman. I can say what I want without censorship or without having to pay a special charge. But the big telephone and cable companies want to change the Internet as we know it."

* August, 2006: OBama travels to South Africa and Kenya, making stops in Djibouti, Ethiopia and Chad.

Whoa back up! He is encouraging more Kenyans to undergo voluntary HIV testing? Excellent! Can't complain about his efforts here, nor can I complain about all the other celebrities who've done exactly the same thing. World Peace!

Eh...what? An "active role"? Thanks for the details!

Inspirational writing! I do it all the time.

At least we're trying to do something about Africa. How many other countries can say the same?

* On the first day of the Democratic-controlled 110th Congress, in a column published in the Washington Post, Obama called for an end to "any and all practices that would lead a reasonable person to believe that a public servant has become indebted to a lobbyist." He joined with Sen. Russ Feingold (D-WI) in strengthening restrictions on travel in corporate jets to S.1, the Legislative Transparency and Accountability Act of 2007, which passed the Senate with a 96-2 majority.
Is there some reason why I don't see Senator John McCain's name in there? Interesting selection process you have there.

Fight the good fight.

* 2005 article in the British journal New Statesman lists Obama as one of "10 people who could change the world." Three months into his Senate career, and again in 2007, Time Magazine names Obama one of "the world's most influential people."
Thank God for celebrity status!

* February, 2007:  Obama announces presidential candidacy; unprecedented grassroots campaign springs up across the nation nearly overnight.  Over a million sign into Obama's facebook within a few days of announcement.
Grass roots? You have got to be kidding me.....

Celebrities can raise money? Why didn't someone tell me that?!

* May 2007: Rasmussen polling organization reports in May 2007 that 49% of Americans consider it "somewhat likely" or "very likely" that Obama will be elected
I love polls!

* Also in May and again two months later, Zogby International reported that Obama leads all prospective Republican opponents in polling for the 2008 general election
He needs his own set of cheerleaders.

B.A. stands for Bachelor's of Arts.  His major was Political Science.  Bachelor's in Business is a B.B.A.

No, it means he's able to reach a consensus with people who would not normally be inclined to do so.

Oh, your right, here I found one, this one was stated in a recent post by a gentlemen they call Consis, oh you don’t know him? But would like to get to know him?
Glad you asked, he often “springs into existence and blurts out passing shallow comments having given absolutely no critical thinking toward what is being said” and seems to just watch the same videos about Obama. Interesting character. Hey don’t take my word for it go in check it out for your self.

You stated that you would read the book? Have you done this yet? You state that you want those that love him and will vote for him to show you what he has done to better contribute then the others. It appears that everyone keeps standing around and kicking the dead horse just to find out that, yes, he is dead! And if you keep kicking him, you will just hurt yourself.
