Not You OD

OD The_Gootch was not talking to you. He was talking to me. And yeah this is a good time to admit everything I posted about Obama was nonsense. I guess I conjured it up inside my own mind. I was wrong about him. Most people know better than I do. And now that you've been spot on with your predictions thus far, what do you predict happens next? Let's have it state by state if you please....but leave Utah out of it. I know Utah better than anyone.

It must be great to be in Peacemaker's shoes right about now. She must feel like a million bucks helping his campaign. I am happy for her.

What? Are you suggesting that Romney will win Utah? Blasphemy!

As for the rest:

Republicans:
If McCain wins Florida, then he'll sail smoothly to the nomination.
If Romney wins Florida, there's no telling what will happen.

Democrats:
It could be either one.

General election:
McCain vs. Obama: Obama wins.
Romney vs. Obama: Obama wins.
Romney vs. Clinton: Clinton wins.
McCain vs. Clinton: ???

Hmm I Wonder....

No you don't understand. The mormons just lost their last subtle leader. He is dead. And now dawns the new more powerful and more power hungry, Monson. Of course they won't tell you that he will be the next "prophet" but it's guaranteed unless he dies. Ask a mormon and they'll tell you their leaders are NEVER voted into office but rather God chooses the next one. And how does God do this you might ask? So glad you asked! Their highest and most elite cadre of religious judges "pray". God puts the person's name in their mind and they each declare what God told them to do.

Nope I'm afraid whatever misgivings or illusions anyone might have about Utah it is at current our most deeply religious American state as a whole in all its stately divine glory. Utah will vote for whomever their prophet tells them to vote for. That's the simple truth about Utah. And when Monson is "asked by God to serve his calling" we will see a new day dawn for the first in a long line of prolific mormon self righteousness.

Florida is another matter entirely. Florida is a key state. Florida is among the most important tactical victories in the republican caucuses. Let us see what happens. I wonder what will happen. To this I am most curious. Will it be McCain or Romney? Or will it be the cornerstone of a Giuliani masterplan?

See, I write off McCain a couple weeks ago and now he's the front-runner...sigh.

Republicans:

I don't know if "sail" is the best word, a lot depends on next Tuesday.  I can't wait to see what happens.
Why hasn't Ron Paul dropped out of the race yet?

Democrats:
It could be either one, I agree.  After next Tuesday I think we'll have a clearer picture.

General election:
McCain vs. Obama: Obama wins.
Romney vs. Obama: Obama wins.
Romney vs. Clinton: Clinton wins.
McCain vs. Clinton: McCain wins.  Clinton is too polarizing and I think McCain could bring people together better, certainly better than Romney.

Republican Debate At Reagan Library

Am I the only one who watched last night's debate? Come on Wolfman and Binabik! You guys can't tell me you ignored a debate like that! McCain was on fire baby! He wouldn't back down from Romney! It was awesome! Man I love that guy! If only he weren't supporting the Iraq war then I would vote for him. I seriously love McCain so dearly. He is such an awesome guy!

But Romney is the guy we should vote for no matter what if we expect our economy to strengthen itself. Romney really is gold when it comes to business. The man can and would reign in Wall Street. I am so sick of hearing about every little fickle turn of the DOW Industrial! "Today it's up. We expect it to go down tomorrow. We expected it to go down but it looks like it's going up. Yes it went up, see? But it only jumped about 80 points. But growth is good, any growth. It went up and so we should all be happy. But this doesn't mean it won't go down again. In fact it's very possible that it will go down! Remember we're technically not in a recession but we are in a recession. They don't want us to say we're in a recession but just look around you. It's obivous we're in a recession. The fed cut rates today and there was this massive argument over whether it should be cut by .50% or .25%. We really hope it will be half a percentage point because well let's face it a quarter of a percentage point is less than half." COME ON CAN YOU BELIEVE THIS NONSENSE! Just look at all that junk! Who in their right mind can put up with listening to nonsense like that?!

And don't even get me started on border security with Lou Dobbs. Oh dear that guy is so right in his convictions and delivery but it's really starting to frighten me to see all these journalists I once respected come out slugging alongside him. I've even seen him go to town on some of his own fellow CNN reporters ignoring them while diatribing, ranting, name-calling, pointing fingers, fear mongering, and more. I absolutely agree we need what he is asking for but I absolutely disagree with the manner in which he is demanding it!

I watched the debate. I'm tired of the Republicans talking about Ronald Reagan as if he were God. Romney invoked his name 19 times. 19 TIMES. Reagan wasn't that great.

And I hate how they focused (lol, understatement) on Romney and McCain.

Don't know about Wolfman, but I can tell you that. I almost never watch those debates, or any other campaign garbage. I have probably watched less than 10 presidential debates in my life.

Let's put it this way. The first time I ever saw (the current) Bush speak was in his second term of office. (with the exception of maybe the occasional 10-30 second spot on the news, which I rarely watch either)

As for Reagan. I don't know the context, but IMO he really is worth mentioning a lot of times. Reagan was representative of a past era in the Republican Party. The party has gone off in completely different directions since the early 90s when Newt and his group of jokers hijacked the party.

The party has since alienated huge numbers of their own members. They have this stupid idea that just because they get elected, then the people actually support them and agree with their agenda. That's far from the truth for either party.

Elections are usually a 60/40 split or closer. That means at least 40% disagree with the winner, and a large portion of the ones who voted for them voted for the lesser of the evils. Both parties talk about the "mandate of the people" when they win. What a crock of ****!  By definition the "average" person MUST be in the middle....but neither party is willing to field a moderate candidate who truly has the pulse of the average person on the street.

When the Democrats lost Congress in the early 90s after controlling at least one house for over 40 years, they learned their lesson and backed away from the agenda that failed them (at least in rhetoric if not in actions and beliefs). They have since returned to that same agenda, and even more so, but only the current dissatisfaction with Republicans and government in general allows them to do so.

The Republicans just can't seem to learn their lesson. They lost Congress and do nothing but make excuses for it. Unlike the Democrats in the 90s, the Republicans won't admit that they are the cause of their own defeat.

The "Reagan era" is representative of when the party more closely represented the members on the street. It was a time when people actually believed in what the party stood for rather than being a Republican just because the Democrats are worse.

It's amazing to watch these cycles. LOL, the Democrats are going to do exactly the same thing the Republicans did when Newt and company took over. The Dems get elected due to dissatisfaction with the way things currently are. The pendulum has simply swung the other direction. How many years will it take before the people decide "hey, that's not what we want either"? Then the pendulum swings back toward the far right.

Will it ever stop in the middle? Probably not. People far more easily give blame than give credit. When their short memories forget why they voted for the current party, they will swing back the other way.

Then after the election, the economy gets better, the general feeling of the people improves and people are optimistic. And the winner believes he/she gets credit for the improvements....when the same thing will happen no matter WHO gets elected, simply due to the fact that they are someone different.

Very good, Binabik!

But I disagree on one point. Reagan hijacked the Republican party. Nixon hijacked the Republican party. Goldwater hijacked the Republican party. The Republicans haven't been the same since 1960. Eisenhower was the last good Republican. (Well, Bush Sr. was all right.)

The Republicans used to stand for limited government and noninterventionism. Where have they gone? Goldwater took away noninterventionism, Reagan brought oppressive social conservatism and excessive spending, and Bush Jr. brought a budget defecit that made Reagan's look like nothing, along with wiretapping, the PATRIOT Act, and Guantanamo. As for Nixon, he took the Republicans' honor.

Depends on what they say and whether or not I agree with what they say.

As far as Obama...I think he is charismatic, has some good ideas..but I couldn't say how well he can put those ideas to use.

And Gootch...I hope you haven't posted your "I love Obama" video here like you did on my Myspazz. *laughs*

Tonight's Democratic Debate

I actually rather enjoyed watching it. I want universal healthcare. Obama does not want it. The new word I heard tonight for Hillary's way to fund that kind of healthcare was "subsidies". It made me laugh. The entire civilized world knows that universal healthcare comes from increasing taxes on the average person. I support this idea.

Welcome back Setitetart! Been a very long time since we've heard from you around here. I understand you have many friends in other places. But we here still enjoy hearing from you when you have the time. So thanks for joining us ^_^

With regard to my feelings about Obama I would like to say in my defense that I have come across some enlightening information. I have changed my opinion not simply because of all the votes this guy is getting but also because I finally realize why I've been so frustrated. I learned why so few people here in Oregon cares about voting. I learned we are dead-last in the voting cycle, and I mean DEAD-LAST. We vote alongside the Dominican Republic at the very end. By the time the candidates get to us it will be too late. You guys have no idea how much I've tried to talk to other people around town about politics and what's going on. It's proven to be borderline impossible. The most common response when asked if they have been or are thinking about the elections is, "Uh I don't know. Why?" This ranges from close personal friends to average Joes I hang out with at the gym. I wish I knew why Oregon is dead-last in the election cycle. I am still trying educate myself.

The reason why this is important to me is because one of my main resources for information regarding politics of this nature is by simply going and talking to people. That avenue has somehow been cutoff through a lack of enthusiasm. That is my highest priority for information. My 2nd priority and probably least favorable way to form an opinion is to wait and read the pros and cons that come to me in the mail along with my ballot. I honestly have lost much of my appreciation and trust for news agencies after watching the slow degradation of the New York Times. I once held them at such high esteem and regard. My high opinion for the New York Times came from my great respect I had for their books best-seller lists. But they really have gone deep into opinionated column writing. Now I am wary to trust even my own local newspapers. So I listen to radio shows that I can find. They seem to be quite opinionated as well and even sometime tout it as an achievment of some kind. They'll say, "If you don't like our opinions then tune to a different radio channel".

Here I find myself wishing I had more reliable sources. Thus far I like CNN because they are the lesser evil. Their two worst faces are Bill Schneider and Lou Dobbs. Strange as it may sound....as opinionated as Jack Cafferty is, I feel like he says things that make a lot of sense to me. I also like Wolf Blitzer, whom gained my trust after giving Mrs. Cheney a thorough tongue lashing during her so-called book promotion. Ever since then I've looked to Wolf Blitzer for many keen insights on objective reporting.

I told you who I was really leaning towards, the Dem from Ohio, but seeing as how the guy probably wont make it...what else is out there to sway my vote?

Granted, I don't care for the conservative republican agendas either...but I will vote based on the person and record rather than party affiliation.

Ideally, I would like to see someone who can hold the office with dignity, integrity, and responsibility.
Someone for the people rather than for themselves...
They should be experienced and have solid values.
I think that they should be tuned into the real world as it were...

It comes down to who can do the job more effectively.

Who do we have that can do that...or more?

And since Gore isn't running. *grins*

I always have time to be a pain in your butt Consis. *winks*

So...

You support the idea of increasing taxes?

Why?

I want to make sure I have what you are saying right.

Because in my opinion, the entire civilized world knows that the average citizen is already taxed half to death as it is. Why not try taxing people in the upper brackets a little more?
I can't see my way clear to vote for any candidate that would add more taxes to the "average" citizen.

Just saying...

Yes. It has indeed been awhile since I was here. Just had some time and thought I'd swing by to see the latest debates. *grins* Either way, good to be back. I have been busy with things at home and some unexpected, but so far very good, connections with family I didn't know I had.
