Peacemaker, I think you need to step back from the precipice.

Obama was never, ever going to win Pennsylvania, just as he was never going to win Ohio.

Just as Hillary is never going to win NC and was never going to win, say, VIrginia.

The fact of the matter is, there are a lot of democrats who very much like Hillary, whether it's because of Bill, whether it's because they believe she can get things done or simply because she's a woman who has a legitimate shot at the presidency.  And that's their right.

There are also a lot of democrats who very much like Obama.  Based on passed voting and current polls, slightly more like Obama.  And that's their right as well.

Obama will almost certainly get the nomination, and even if he doesn't, I'd still put a bet on there being a Democrat in the White House next year.

Is the long primary hurting the Democratic chances?  Almost certainly.  Is it crippling them?  I don't think so.  The biggest problem with it is that money that could be used to bury McCain is instead being used for infighting, but I think there will be enough time to regroup and get the White House back.

@violent_flower

I was more refering to a debate that arose here recently regarding odd political statements, and what canidates should do about them.
Somebody mentioned that Obama should distance himself from that one preacher (oh and I guess nobody is saying anything to McCain about an endorsement from a preacher that had just as strange views) because of a political statement.

Bill has also made some very questionable political statements during this campain, and Hill isn't throwing him to the curb .  Also, I am not a bit concerned with Bill's affair with other women.  For all I care he could be making it with all the Dallas Cowboy Cheerleaders at once.  No what concerns me is he lied about it.  Makes me wonder what else he lied about.

However, this is getting off of the main topic.

As it stands, short of divine intervention or a 'super delegate' win, the nomination is all but sown up by Obama.  So the question is, for all you prognosticators out there...who do you think Obama will choose for a running mate (limit it to one choice if possible, I am sure if you list a hundred possibilities at least one will be correct).

Edit : OH and a funny/interesting statement about Democracy

This is about as random as you can get, the equivalent of throwing a gajillion names into a ballcap and picking  one at random.

Dems had a pretty good streak going for awhile where they were picking southerners to try and woo the southern vote (reasons for the mass exodus from the democratic party in the south had to do with the Supreme Court decision in '62 banning school prayer and the Civil Rights Act of '64).  Then Gore screwed it up and picked a snooty jew from New England (my cynical side suspects he was chosen to give the dems a shot at Florida).

One choice?

Dick Durbin, our other senator from Illinois and worthy successor to the great, late, Paul Simon.

Because Wright is Obama's pastor, while Hagee is just a guy who endorsed McCain.

I am not sure about that.  He is charismatic to most people (though I personally seem to be immune to his particular charisma *shrugs*).

Now I have my doubts about Obama, and deffinately reservations about McCain.  I don't even agree with all of Obama's political agenda.  However, of all of them, I agree with his platform the most.  Problem is I don't think any of them will keep most of their promises once president.  Or even if they CAN.

A couple of things would have to occur for America to have a fighting chance to get back on track.

1) Throw lobbist out.
2) Post armed guards so lobbist can't get back in.
3) Elect people that actually give a darn about the people (this will be one of the hardest to do).
4) Put strict term limits, and no seats that go to heirs.

A lot of other things would also have to be done, but that would be a start.  Right now MONEY rules the government, and the money is controlled by a small percentage of people.  A democracy is supposed to be ran by the majority, not just the few rich.

But having term limits restricts the voters' choice to vote for whomever they want.

Charisma?  "Charisma" and "American politician" are used in the same sentence? What happened? Since when?

Since as far as I know, to me, American presedential "debates" tend to resemble two toddlers snowfighting in a sandbox more than intelligent adults who actually come with decent arguments.

It seems to be more about making populistic slurs - regardless of their own ACTUAL believes - and about the delicacy and expertise at which they can fling a piece of mud into the other's face, and laugh at him / her like Nelson from the Simpsons. HA HA!

That seems to be the way to win votes in America these days. (admitted, it does happen everywhere)

I heard Hillary had a team in service who keep calling various people to remind them to vote for Hillary...

Free choice? Wut dat? People? Wut dat? Dat aint people, dat be votes! GIMME UR VOTE OR ME CRY!!!

Where The Political Winds Move Us

Given what I've seen happen thus far in this democratic nomination process I am left feeling good. I honestly thought Hillary might lose Texas. And then I realized this little campaign is not simply about what I thought it was. For every caucus Obama wins it. And for every primary Hillary wins it.

I strongly suspect the democratic nomination is a war between the young and the old. For some reason age is now a deciding factor in this election cycle and I am very confused why that is. I guess I must simply accept it. It is strange to me.

And bort the way you talk it sounds to me as if you are thinking like a news person who purports that states with high black populations are expected to vote for the only black candidate left standing. I thought that too for a long while but now I'm convinced it is based on age and not race.

I am so depressed after the events of this last week I can't bring myself to set out what I'm predicting for tonight.

Not that anybody appears to care anymore or asked for a prediction.

I feel like the best I can hope for right now is not to break the new coffeemaker my husband bought to replace the one I broke after Pennsylvania.

That said, thanks for the call, Gootch.  It really did help put things back into the larger context, if only for a few days...

Holy Moly

I guess Oregon gets to vote after all! Woohoo! This is gonna be awesome! I'm so excited!

I guess if you follow some of this ridiculous logic floating about, maintaining that black people will vote for Obama.....then my state won't vote for him eh? LoL What a bunch of nonsense.

Now let me give you a small piece of Oregon truth: We have some of the most politically active young persons in the country and in the world. Any questions?

Though most likely Obama will win the Nomination, I am not sure about the presidency.  Though his opponit would be 'the same old, same old' (or worse) people tend to fear change.  It's irrational and silly, but true.
