And thats whats so good!
Now you dont need to join stupid wars and exploit them!
Im so happy, like the rest of the world (atleast like 90% of Europes population, to us McPain is just an evil warmonger) that Obama was elected.
It was obvious from the begining that he would win - now I want a chinese woman for president 2012 (when the world ends ;D ).
I also think its very interesting when you choose your president. The voting system is very odd and your not really a true democracy.
Also I find it funny that they bring their family and children plus always "thanks god omg", people seem to be very religious in the US compared to lets say, the Nordic countries were religion is not really popular and faith decreases dramatically all the time.

I think the electoral college system should be abandoned or, at the very least, heavily modified. In this "information age" where individual votes are easily tracked and added by computers, there's no reason to rely on such an antequated system.
Really, does it seem fair that a candidate who wins California 60-40 in popular vote gets to take all 100% of California's 55 electoral votes? It leaves the 40% who voted for the other guy with no electoral voice.
Unfortunately, it's a system that is unlikely to change easily. The way electoral votes are distributed are decided on a state-by-state basis, and democrats in California, for example, are unlikely to ever change the state law in California to benefit the Republican party, just like Repubs in Texas are unlikely to ever change the state law in Texas to benefit the Democratic Party. Clearly, this change will have to happen at the Federal Courts level.

It outlaws gay marriage in California. Apparently people still give a damn about who other people chose to spend their lives with.

Thats another thread debate and a good one, infact I came up with a good idea to solve the problem.
Its called an economic bind or economic unity, where houses, finances, everything is the same as marriage except the love requirement.

I agree, it makes little sense that McCain can be back by 6% in the popular vote but lose by hundreds of electoral votes, and equally that Bush can win the presidency when in fact he did not win the popular vote.
Plus, it really does make you feel like your vote does not matter if you live in a state like I do that is heavily favoring one party or the other, if you are of the opposite party you might as well not even bother voting. The electoral college really does need an overhaul, it just hasn't made much sense the past few elections.
And if you want to see something REALLY messed up, since there are no more conservative Congressmen anywhere in New England, 1/3 of New England's population now lacks a voice in politics that agrees with them. o_O
I'm all for majority rule, after all that is what democracy is, but to not have ANY voice at all in the government except a Senator or Congressman/woman who doesn't even support my views..NONE at all from my area...well, that's pretty bad.

@ Xerox- From what I can see, the US is still more religious than Europe, yes. But why is it funny that they bring their family up on stage with them to thank them?
I really, really do look forwards to the vast anti-Bush media network having to criticize the Democrats now. Jon Stewart's going to have a stroke.

Its not about who begins a war, infact, its better and more responsible not to in most cases, its about who has the guts to fight until its over, and its about winning too because its not a game of fun. I have a lot of confidence in Obama, I just fear some crazy white redneck will do something stupid and create a national riot where I have to invent weapons because its to violent outside to go get one. .

Russian Song for Sarah Palin
lol...
no longer relevant but I only saw it today
Just in case anyone doesn't get it, here is the context:
PALIN: They're our next door neighbors and you can actually see Russia from land here in Alaska.
...
It's very important when you consider even national security issues with Russia as Putin rears his head and comes into the air space of the United States of America, where-- where do they go? It's Alaska.
I know this is old news but I still laughed

This is a list of reasons someone in my life does not like ehem, hates despises Obama.
What do you think about some of these itemized notions of hate?
Quote: 1. He is, at best, a Socialist. I'm tempted to quit my job now. I figure if I'm going to take home fifty cents on every dollar I earn, and the other fifty is going to go to the "less fortunate", hell I'll just stay HOME and TAKE the fifty cents he wants to take from the working class to give to me.... (and Celfious (real name edited), you know that I'm poor as a church mouse...)
2. He never says ANYthing - ever. He is an excellent speaker; very eloquent. But so was Hitler.
(On this one, use common sense by what she means "ANYthing")
3. His wife makes the hair on the back of my neck stand up.
4. He hates America and everything it stands for.
5. He defended ACORN - one of the most corrupt "community organizations" in history.
6. He utterly lacks character.
7. He could never produce an original birth certificate to prove he was born in the U.S.
8. I am sure he is hiding something.
She thinks he is the devil I believe...

First of all, the example is flawed. It's not half of your wealth that is simply given to a lazy bum. You earn more from working than you would from receiving this money. The only thing this system is meant for, is to GUARANTEE a very very VERY minimal standard of living, but at least a standard. A standard from which you can grow again and get back into society. If you're a pennyless bum on the street with only your clothing and a carton box as your property, I don't see how you could possibly get out of that mess. With a minimal amount of income to at least substain yourself, you DO have that chance.
Second, that system is not designed to rob those with low income of their money. It is build around the idea that the strong carry the weak. And those with larger incomes CAN miss a bit more of that money (they would still have more income).
But I know, I know, Americans are scaredy cats when it comes to anything that has to do with socialism (even though USA is the other extreme end of the spectrum and thus equally bad in my opinion).
Quote: 2. He never says ANYthing - ever.
Neither did Bush or McCain. But you're saying that as if you expect your rulers to shove actually intelligent people in front of you to be elected as your next puppet?
Quote: His wife makes the hair on the back of my neck stand up.
Relevance?
Quote: 4. He hates America and everything it stands for.
I hate misplaced pride
Quote: 5. He defended ACORN - one of the most corrupt "community organizations" in history.
Pass, never heard of it.
Quote: 6. He utterly lacks character.
I agree here. Ron Paul had character. None others did. Which is exactly why he was filtered out.
Quote: 7. He could never produce an original birth certificate to prove he was born in the U.S.
I still laugh my ass off about accusations such as this.
Quote: 8. I am sure he is hiding something.
I'm sure YOU are hiding something!
