I don't really have any objections. The funny thing is that the difficulty has little to do with any problems I'm dealing with. Namely, poor judgements when it comes to building up the huge cities.

I'm a Quaestor building the city of Mediolanum, elephant safari. Those trunked giants are no problem at all; it's just the 7000 hungry tent pitchers I find daunting.

Did you play the desert fishing city before your current level, rebirthing? Heh, you might be more skilled than me...

no i did the military one instead of the fishing one. i tried the fishing one a few times and couldnt do it. i couldnt get the food around everywhere. fish being the only food was hard but i think u can import meat. well i did the military one. it gets kinda hard but i managed.

Not bad if you beat Mediolanum. I will likely have to restart that city because I didn't lay out my housing blocks properly to let the market buyers restock fast enough. Alright, here I go.

I restarted my Mediolanum game. I made improvements in my housing and farm sectors; industry received better placement as well. I had previously forgotten that I don't need to worry about fires in northern terrain, so I got to cut back on Prefectures entirely.

Carthaginians are no problem. Neither are the ratings. My population is rather low (1400) so I gotta work my way up and fill the map if I can.

So nobody's playing Carthage? Ha, I would have liked to see the progress on that one.

*laughs* Like locking yourself in a cage so the pack of lions won't eat you.

Level 5: Mediolanum (Update)

I'm at 3000 something people. This is somewhat tedious, but I won't complain much since things are going way better than the last time. Dang, if Capua would sell more than just 24 pieces of clay per year, I'd be able to evolve ALL of my Small Casas.

if u keep trading with someone for a long time they say that they can increase/decrease tha ammount u can trade. so sometimes they will buy more or let u buy more and stuff like that.

Unfortunately, I think those are scripted events that are set by the map makers. My memory might serve me wrong, but I either found this out on a website or by using the map editor myself.

I hope for my Small Casas' sake that you're right, though.

My prosperity was 41 in the four game months prior to me beating the mission. I just built block after block of tent housing until I finally won. I guess all the lost money and housing quality is evident in my final prosperity value.

I'm onto Mission 6!!!!!

Several Ways To Raise Prosperity

1. Pay more wages than Rome does (check Labor Advisor).
2. Keep unemployment well below 12%.
3. Have a working Hippodrome in your city.
4. Check your Population Advisor and see if your people have 2 or more food types.
5. Have a positive bank balance by the end of December(profit over loss).

---

I find that #5 is the easiest way to raise Prosperity for me, since you're gonna want to be earning profits by trading early anyway. Check your Financial or Chief Advisors before your year ends to see if your income outweighs your losses.

I think you can still boost your Prosperity even if you have plenty of unemployment. If you can drop the unemployment percentage before the year ends, you'll be okay. Building an extra Academy or Hospital to soak up the laborless workers is definitely okay.

This is more of a Favor thing, but I think it helps your Prosperity if you don't rely on Caesar boost your funds when you run into dept the first time. In other words, don't fall into the red zone.

If you get dangerously close to entering debt early in a mission, you can put your salary money to good use and donate it to your city's treasury. If you haven't figured this out already, click on "Give To City" in your Emperor Advisor. If you can amass several thousand denarii in your personal stash over the course of the missions and spend none of it on gifts to Caesar, this reserve can really help you in a pinch.

Lugduhmafooblehblum... blah... (whatever it's called) is tricky since land management and logistics is harder to deal with. Everything is cramped, yet barely workable. I've started it, but I still haven't a clue as to my vision for the city. Where does this go and where does that go? I guess I'll have to think it over for tomorrow.

I didn't play Carthago because I was too buzzed by Mediolanum's 7000 pop cap that I didn't want to be burned crispy in that desert land.

---

My population is now 2000, only 3000 more to go.
