RAWR im confused on beginning strategy...

Ok recently i've started playing H3 again, but i've been looking on these forums, and i see the same advice, but its usually scrambled...4-5 heroes on week 1, go for level 7 creature, etc..

Wtf? 4-5 heroes, ok..half of them will have 1 unit, wtf? Scouting..on most maps, my scouting can be done with about 2 heroes, the rest is blocked by creatures.

I never manage to get a level 7 creature week 1, except with Stronghold.

People say not to build money buildings, and just get the money off the map, ok...Then what if i run out of money? I dont even build the town hall for 1000? just stick with 500 per turn???

Could someone just explain everything, like really detailed...etc..

If you want win, you must go fast forward. That mean, you must open your road. What can do that better, capitol or 2 behemots?

my advice is that you download and test some of the TOH maps as they contain lots of gold.

True, half of them heroes will only have one unit....as starting army
Thatīs why u shouldnīt use them only as scouts, but also as fighter. You have 3 heroes with starting army on day 1, + level 1 and perhaps level 2 dwelling built in town.

Letīs take Castle for example:
You "pick" Valeska as starting hero (u donīt have to use her as main hero, but she starts with 6-13 archers, which will help a lot), and in tavern u will find Ingham and Clancy.

Suggestion:
Valeska has 10 archers, Ingham has 22 pikes and 3 archers, Clancy has 17 centaurs and 4 dwarfs.
In your town is pikemen and archer dwelling built.
No your starting army day 1 will look like this:
22 archers, 36 pikemen, 17 centaurs and 4 dwarfs.
Depending on the richness of the map, u can now build mageguild day 1, or, if the map is poor, u should upgrade archer building to get marksmen.
With that army, u can beat every kind of crypt with minimal losses, all normal level 1,2 and 3 guards of resources.
But the clue is, u have to give that army to the next hero, after u have fought a crypt for example. Then this hero carries those troops to a third hero, who stands in front of the next crypt (for example). And now again....thatīs what is called "chaining troops". So, the more heroes u have, the more u can chain and the more u can fight each day.
With that tactic, more heroes will level up early to level 2,3 and 4, and u can decide, which hero u will use as main (the one who gets log and/or earth first normaly).

Try it...it needs some practice, but u will see it works...

well you cant say those things in general, it depends on the map. Thats the difference between good and not so good players i guess, getting a feeling for the situation.

If you are relatively blocked in you should buy only those 3 heroes with troops on, and look at what (and at what time, depending on the monsters you will get from your town build) you can beat with that. Maybe you will open up a bigger and richer area, now you will need those additional scouts.

Well Angel's presentation makes sense to someone who actually seen how this is done.

To continue with Angelito's exemple, let's say you scout with one hero(Ingham) down the road(to south lest's say) and you see 1 cript in reach. You scout with another hero(Clancy) in the other direction(notrh let's say) and see your way is blocked by lots dwarves.

So what do you do?

You take valeska down the road south and she barely makes it to that cript and kills it.With a bit of luck it could be a full one so that's 5000 gold easy money and a treasure artie. Now she has exhausted her movement points so she should rest for the day.

Now your main task is to clear the road block that dwarves to the nord present. But your army is too far away, so what do you do?Remember from Valeska to dwarves you have a 2 days walk.So in order to get those troops to fight ASAP you need to put clancy just in front of the dwarves, then buy a nother hero(Dace) and have him stand in front of your castle.
Next turn Valeska moves up towards castle and trades all her troops except for one unit to Dace.Dace moves further nord and then hands over the troops to Clancy who makes the fight with the Dwarves and then moves forward and attack another cript let's say.

This is a simple exemple and in real game this can be much more complicated, but the idea is the same:Should you have used valeska as your fighter in all 3 battles(2 cripts+dwarves) you could take the 2nd cript after killing the dwarves only day 4, but using chaining you can achieve this day 2.To me that is quite an advantage.

Once you learn to plan your objectives for the future, you can position the heroes in such ways as to chain effectively.

To demonstrate this better Xarfax and Nebuka posted some saves from their games.I looked those saves up for you but unfortunatelly uploaded links have expired so no way to download those now.
Hope i could help a bit

I was thinking the very same thoughts during this past month or so. It turns out I've been playing the types of maps everyone else hasn't been playing. Ever play "Pestilence Lake" from SoD? I think if you start as red, you don't get very many free resources in your starting territory. In that map, for example, 4-5 heroes isn't exactly advisable, particularly if you play on the harder difficulties.

Recently, I've been testing out Random Maps to see just people are doing online. Now I'm seeing the horde of gold piles I've been hearing about. And the process of "chaining" seems all the more likely to work.

Just sharing my thoughts.

Ah yes, I've been practicing these strats against computers on 160%, i know..im such a nub, but im just experimenting for now, i have downloaded maps off ToH website, and i see the piles of gold now....

Heres what i did in a recent game.

I went random, got castle...I had 1 hero, and then i bought another one. I gave all the troops to the main hero, and then sent him out to scout, then i got another hero, and gave him all the troops to the main. Then he went to scout, and then i got a 4th hero and sent him to scout. The scouts are bringing in all the resources, and the main is killing stuff..

BTW what is a crypt?

Isn't it one of those white rectangular buildings on the adventure map where you fight Skeletons, Walking Dead, Wights, and maybe Vampires?
