Balrogs.. are not from tolkien
They are only changed by Tolkien.. Winged Demons were made up long before he was born.

Incubus, nobody said demons were from Tolkien. They said that the name Balrog was one that Tolkien invented, and that is true. Likewise I'm pretty sure he came up with the imagery for them (the flaming sword and whip)

The diablo Balrogs for instand.... And elswere it's the ONLY cool creature he invented..

Good ol' Incubus...
Y'know, I'll probably be 40 and still remember Incubus whenever anyone mentions Heroes of Might and Magic. That's pretty scary! Now I'll probably need therapy...
I think the Unicorn is a magic user, as it seems that every town has a level 3 magic user:
Ogre Magi - Stronghold
Genie - Academy
Efreet - Asylum
Zealot - Haven
???? - Necropolis
So it would make sense for the Unicorn to be the magic type for the Preserve. Also, every town except Preserve and Necropolis has a shooter for their second level 1 shooter. The Preserve and Necropolis have flyers instead (Sprites, Imps/Gargoyles).
Oh, yeah... Tolkein did make the Balrog name, but many Tolkeinites still debate whether or not the Balrog had wings in LOTR. Tolkein only describes as having a massive shadow behind him in the shape of wings.
P.S. According to GameSpots "Top 10 Monsters" List, the Balrog in Diablo was named after Tolkein's monster, because the makers of Diablo were big fans of the book!!

Incubus is scary  just joking, I don't like flamewars,
like it or not Incubus is a vital member of HC (although his recent "post delete" actions were devastating...)

But wait.. the balrog doesn't have any wings in tolkiens stories? whahaha LOL! I really DON"T like that Balrogs of them! I like only winged Diablo Balrogs! I did't know anything about balrogs till i bought diablo 2.. So it's a Not very Old known creature by me... But when i saw him i was in love! LOL! J/K! Expesially his Flaming blade and wings are cool!

First of all, Ash-Nir, quit it with the damn quotes.
Balrogs are cool, if 3do change 2 things, they should get rid of the venom spawn in the necropolis and stick in SUCCUBI and then they should kick out the devils and stick in BALROGS.
By the way, Demons aren't in the necropolis because the are associated with death and the afterlife. They are in their cause necromancy is "the" Dark Arts and the dark arts were usually given to people from Stan/Lucifer. On I website, I found out some info on Necromancy and it said it was the art of raising the dead AND calling upon the power of demons and other unholy beings.
The necropolis should be this
Level 1: Skeletons/Imps
Level 2: Gargoyles/Ghosts (Or banshees)
Level 3: Cerberi/Succubi
Level 4: Bone Dragon/Balrogs

i think gargoyles, bone dragons and archdevils should be removed from the list. I donīt like em at all.
Demon spawn and blood dragon would be way cooler.

I think all creatures should be removed, all heroes - and just MIGHT and MAGIC to be left. This way the game will be totally cool - whenever you go - you'll see only MIGHT or MAGIC - total nirvana - absolute balance. And you the player - you don't need anything to do - you just watch it - and think - "How good that thing is it" - "Exactly how I wanted" - "No boring creatures, no boring humans, no heroes messing around" - just pure balanced game of might&magic. have fun.

I tought the myth of the succubi came from Scotland.
See headline. They first were Sexy Female demons.. Without wings and stuff I think some others(maybe games like Dark stalkers changed that and gave them wings) Series like charmed(yeah the 3 witches) made her female with a snake tongue? Every single myth changes the looks of the succubus.. I like the one from Dark Stalkers most.. Sexy woman with black dragon wings on head and back.

Succubi (and Incubi) were invented by the medieval Catholic church to explain those erotic dreams the good priests, monks, and nuns were having. Since it was inconceivable to them that such pure, godly folk would have those wicked dreams, the obvious answer was that the Devil had sent some of his foul minions to tempt them in their sleep. Both terms date back as far as the 14th century. To the medieval mind, they were not fantasy creatures at all. They were as real as any strange beast from distant India or Cathay, and a lot closer to home.

Most fantasy creatures started out as myth somewhere. That is where the sucubus originates from. I suspect sucubus were made most popular in fantasy when they were in the D&D game, but that was just a guess. People also just like sexy monsters. Aside from Tolkien, I'd actualy say that D&D is the work that had the 2nd largest amount of influence on popular fantasy these days.
And yes, incubus come from the same catholic mythology that sucubus do.

They say the Incubus looks like a handsome young man, except he has clawed hands and feet.
The origin of the succubi and Incubi went like this:
Before god made eve, he made Lillith from earth like adam, except her soul was damaged and when Adam mated with her, she would only give birth to demons called SUCCUBI and INCUBI. For this reason, she was cast from eden and joined Satan in hell. Since her children were taken away from her, she now appears at births to abduct the new born babies. There is a special vewrse which must be written on the door of the room that the woman is giving birth in, but I forgot it, something to do with adam and eve. Thats the story of Lillith and her children.
Hey Incubus, is Morrigan from Darkstalkers a good guy, a badguy or is her cause neutral?

Actually Sucubi and Incubi are the same thing. An Incubus is just a sucubus who is taking male form to seduce a woman. I'm pretty sure they were not classified as seperate demons. In that sense, Incubus are actually female, they just look like guys (if a demon can be said to have any gender at all that is).
