Poll Question:
Nuclear Weapons: Who Will Use Them Next?
With a growing number of countries beginning (or restarting) their own nuclear programs, it is possible that some of these programs may ultimately lead to the production of nuclear weapons. There are also several countries that have already manufactured nuclear weapons with the intent of using them as a first-strike or retaliatory defense measure. Below I have listed the five main countries that already possess the technology (and weaponry) to initiate a nuclear strike. Which country do you believe will be the first to employ the use of nuclear weapons in a wartime situation? Will it be first-strike usage or retaliation? When do you believe the nuclear event will happen and why? Please explain your reasoning or rationale (if possible).
Note: There are also other countries that possess nuclear weapons or the technology to build and use them as well (i.e. Pakistan and Iran). Unfortunately, I was limited by the poll to listing only five countries. Please feel free to list your 'additional' choices as you see fit. Thanks.

I must say I'm rather surprised the U.S haven't already used nuclear weapons. But, if any i do think it will be the U.S. that are the first to use them.

I think it'll be Canada first...
nobody THINKS we've got nukes but won't the world be surprised when we unleash hell??
In all honesty I think it'll be a smaller country that will strike at the US first...
(anybody need a place to stay is welcome to live in my basement until the radiation dies down..  )

After America's troubles with North Korea, It would be likely that the Korean war will begin again and Jong-Il and his cronies will be the next to use nuclear weapons.

China...they've already threatened to use them in a conflict over Taiwan. But China should know that Nuclear Weapons make the Panda Bears sad.

I think North Korea is more likely to use the nukes first(because of the government and the tensioned environment), other states listed above won't take the risk.But I'm almost sure that this is not gonna happen, I'd rather bet on a terrorist.

I seriously doubt they'd go for Florida or other Southern States. It's either New York (again) or California. I'm rather surprised myself they didn't get California yet, actually.

I think and this is mine feeling that the nuclear power will be used against USA and it will begin from Asia,choose eight states that will aim against USA,what do you think?When the third world war will start there will be no more fun like in the old days,theres gonna be hell out there.

The 3rd world war won't start soon.
At least not because of a nuclear weapon.The target nation won't retaliate in the same way.Otherwise it would be the most stupid thing to do.The ultimate war must be avoided by all means.

As farfetched as it sounds, it seems very plausible that the first nuke attack may be launched by terrorists. Though it is most likely to come in the form of a weak (relatively speaking) "dirty bomb", its impacts could be as dire as any other form of nuclear attack.
As for the individual countries, I am surprised not to see Israel making the list. Its political situation with neighbouring countries are far more tense than that of India and Russia. As for the US, a nuclear attack would only occur in retaliation when the need is most dire, after all, the following political backlash would be crippling (as shown by the General MacArthur fiasco).
North Korea on the other hand has no issues concerning political disagreement. Afterall, it is ruled by a dictator who dines on lobster and enjoys cognac while his people lives in poverty. Being the first to strike with nuclear arms is possible, however its regieme would surely understand that by doing so it would be digging its own grave. Thus any Korean attack would come in the form of a single synchronised strike to inflict maximum damage in one go. Yet it is to my belief that they do not have the capability to start mass producing nuclear weapons anytime in the near future and that their recent announcements seems like a typical empty threat to me.
In response to Lingerstink's comment, China did not say that nuclear weapons would be used against Taiwan, but only authorised "military actions". Of course the threat of such an attack must not be ruled out but considering the imroving relations (both economic and diplomatic) with Western nations, the possibility as to be placed at a minimum for the time being.

I was watching a documentary on the attacks of 9-11 and the reporter was granted interviews with some of the leaders of Al-queda(is that spelt right?)..
.. anyways he was saying that originaly the target was some of the US's nuclear plants but they changed their minds for fear that "it would get out of control". This shocked me...
Is it possible that a terrorist group would have the conscience to say "that's crossing the line"?

There was a Chinese general the other day who said that China would/should use nuclear weapons if the West aids Taiwan in an eventual Chinese intervention. But the Chinese authorities distanced from that position. Maybe they are strenghtening their position by giving (bluff) warnings.

I am also quiet surprised that neither America or Iraq have not used their Nukes on each other, but to decide which of the worlds countries will strike first is open for speculation because there are so many that want some sort of revenge on another that the possibilities are endless. It could be America, it could be Iraq but really who can say for sure until it actually happens, if it happens. lets just hope that it dose not come to that, hoplefully a peace will have enveloped many of these fuding countries.

Well...
China doesn't need to bluff at all. They, just as we Americans, risk an unfavorable global opinion led by the U.K. if they decide to use nuclear weapons. No modern global power can use its nuclear arsenal with impunity. The cold war has brought us thus far. We all know that both the U.S. and Russia have at least 20 Trident-class submarines. These submarines are the world's greatest and most fearsome weapons ever to be created. Nuclear weapons are more suited to extreme religious fanatics who don't much care if the world were ended tomorrow. Any educated nation knows that we've gone so far in creating such destructive weapons, they've become a literal deterrent.
If you people are so concerned with who might use nuclear weapons next, you might try looking into the relationship between Pakistan and India. Methinks a coup does not sit well with organized republics; be they Islamic or hindu or otherwise.
