illnesses

have u ever had a really bad illness? or something that knocked u out for a few days?

well lets see ur story out there and see how bad it really was compared to others

here is my worst experience i can remember

i was at my soccer game 2 years ago. i had felt sick before hand. i just came off the field cause i felt a bit sick and i got down on my knees. after a few minutes my mouth went num, and i know that means i am going to see my breakfast once more. so i vomited. when i got home, i vomited again, i didnt make it to the bathroom that time. so i eventually got into bed and slept a bit. then i woke up and had some water, a big glass since i was thirsty. after about 30 seconds i saw the water again, but this time it was black. not too pretty. after a while of sleeping, i started hearing noises. weird noises. i looked out of the doorway and i saw soldiers rushing into the bathroom. then i heard war noises like grenades and guns. it was very loud. this went on for some time. i was pretty scared after i thought there was a war going on just outside of my room(keep in mind i was dehydrated and would belive that i was superman). after a while it stopped and that was it. my hallucination experience.

now lets see who can top that story, should be easy

My worst experience was about two years ago, I was playing Pharaoh in the evening, everything was normal, except that I felt a little tired.I went to sleep, but I had nightmares all the night, for example I had to command the egiptian army and navy, to protect the city from invaders, which was a very difficult task, as I had very few resources.I remember that I was saying "we need to build more ships, and fast!".In the morning, when I woke up, my mom was standing beside me, and I was asking her if my toops succeeded to defend. It was pretty serious, my mom got worried, I too, I couldn't stand up from the bed, I had no sense of balance. The ambulance arrived, I was carried, and during the transportation I felt that I was leaving this life. The last moments that I remember, was when I came to the hospital, then nothing. They gave me immediate treatment, I woke up after one day, feeling better but confused, and continued the treatment in the hospital for 2 weeks.I slowly recovered.
I had encefalitis, or whatever its name is.Because I had some sort of measles before, and it had developed strangely, it was not obvious on the skin surface, but it was bad inside me.I was lucky, young and strong enough to survive, said the doctors. In that period, there was another case like mine, it my town, but she didn't make it .
I think I'm fully recovered now.

This was previously my post from a movie thread in the Tavern, but its relevance to the topic at hand made me consider reposting it.

***Old Movie Spoiler Warning***

One afternoon maybe eleven or twelve years ago, I went into the TV room and there was Disney's 1951 cartoon film "Alice in Wonderland" showing. My sister had been watching it, but she left the room to do something else. So I sat down and watched it; it was near the end where Alice meets the Queen of Hearts. As you may recall from the movie, Alice eventually gets chased by virtually every character in Wonderland, ending in a whirling cyclone of colorful angry faces charging at her. She barely escapes via waking up from a dream.

That's pretty much the end of the movie. So when it ended, I got up and lay myself down on the livingroom sofa to take a nap. That's when the funny things started to happen.

I had these really odd dreams. I dreamt my whole living room was painted in a reddish tinge and the atmosphere felt very hot and stuffy. Then I saw the Queen of Hearts marching with an army of animated cards all across the ceiling, to do who knows what. This kept on going for a time, and then I woke up.

In fact, I woke up with a very high fever. It just sprang upon me, from what I remember. My mom gave me a thermometer and, boy, did I have a temperature!

I promise you that this happened for real. I remember that day almost too clearly. That was probably my first and only experience with psychedelia. And to think a Disney cartoon helped to make it happen! I just thought I'd share this crazy but truthful story of what really happened to me. I've never tried drugs, I promise.

I was sick throughout this past Valentine's Day because of a cough and irritated throat. I remember this because I couldn't eat any of the piles of chocolate that were lying around the kitchen. I got better by the weekend, which I thought would be the end of it.

I was wrong. On my day-off the following Tuesday, my head started to feel very drowsy and my cough came back. I had a fever, which kept me feeling very uncomfortable throughout that time. My sleep was affected heavily by unpleasant dreams, as well as chills and sweats. My head was always kind of drowsy and dizzy, so I didn't really want to do/eat anything. I took a lot of medicine for the fever; it seemed to work well for the most part. The fever's gone now, but my cough is still here. I'm just glad I can sleep easily without those crazy dreams.

Gah, I'm sick again!

This time it's a cough and headache combination; no fever, thankfully. I was still feeling junk, though, so I took two pills and now my head feels a lot better. I also had several small cups of orange juice to help cure my cough, which is still going on. I hope this cold will go away in a day or two. It can be very miserable like this.

When I was born, the doctor used unclean instruments, so I got a serious infection at the age of... 0 (which isn't exactly the age when your immune system is at your best). The doctors told my mom that I am pretty much f***ed, but they tried their best anyways. I was back in business after 2 operations and I-don't-know-what drugs or pills . I still got the neat-looking scars

This isn't really an illness, but my back is sore. I was carrying around my amplifier and two guitars at church yesterday, so I think I hurt my back in transit. I had to move my gear between two buildings, so the strain was somewhat inevitable. Oh well, small price to pay.

Okay, I'm making this public. No laughing.

I suffer from a type of Irritable Bowel Syndrome. It normally happens when I'm at the university taking classes. I'll be sitting in class when my stomach starts getting uncomfortably bloated. I'll need to walk out before I explode, but it's not as simple as that. After a trip to the restroom (which may or may not prove productive), my stomach isn't always back to normal. There's a chance that I'll return to class only to feel the bloating return in a short span of less than ten minutes. So I often need to make another run for it not a whole while after my first trip.

This has been happening to me a lot for the last two semesters. My stomach has been given me much anxiety, since I cannot learn anything in lectures with it acting that way. It's also unpredictable, since I have no idea when I'll have a bad day. And the most unfair part about it is that I'm apparently the only one in my classes with this problem. Everyone else is slouching in their chairs, bored, while I'm squirming in my seat and praying to high heaven. I doubt any of you have this problem either; thus, you probably don't think much of my dilemma. All I can say is that it's a terrible experience to feel this way frequently throughout the week. It's a great source of embarrassment to have others see you leave the room more than once several times a week. I can't just shrug it off and say to them "Oh, I was feeling ill that day", because it happens frequently.

This has made my college career a virtual hell. I hate it.

I have been quite sick lately.

I have a cold I think.

But it is making my life a living hell.

My legs feel weak (actually everything feels weak), I constantly have a runny nose, when I get up (which is very hard to do), I often have a short headache, which makes my head hurt very bad.

I also have a very sore throat, and I am constantly coughing, or sometimes vomiting

I am afraid to eat or drink anything, because every time I do, I feel like I am going to vomit, and I hate that feeling.

I have only eaten a piece of toast today, and that was it (ate it about 2 hours ago).

I am, at times, drinking small amounts of water, but every time I swallow, my throat hurts very very badly.

I am  also constantly cold, sometimes freezing.
I sometimes feel my skin, and it seems that I am very warm, but inside, I feel extremely cold.

All I can say, is that I am not in the best shape at the moment

Guitarguy,

I've done a good deal of research on I.B.S. You might be surprised to discover there are a good many people who suffer from this disease. I myself am so terrified of it that I force myself to eat foods in high fiber, particularly raisin bran dry cereal every single morning for breakfast. I avoid eating too many foods like fried things or too many red meats. When I eat something like french fries or a fried pastry of some kind I make a note to myself not to eat anything else of fried variety for the rest of that day. My rule is one fried food per 2-3 days. The same goes for red meats like barbecue or sauce-covered medium-rare steaks: 1 per 2-3 days....no more than that.

I know some people with I.B.S. To the average person not suffering from it, these people are often seen as uptight, moody, weird, strange, always inexplainably angry, or simply not a people-person. The reasons, once people finally see why, is actually justified. As you say, people don't understand and you dont have time to explain how difficult it is to stay sitting and calm. Where you describe discomfort, many others use the word painful.

In my experience with the people that I know have it, I have come to see them mostly as "Oscar the Grouch" from sesame street: always unhappy, nothing to be cheerful about, quick to disagree with optimism. When I meet a person is such, I often wonder if they are suffering from I.B.S.

Through my research, the biggest problem with this disease is how misunderstood it has been by the medical community in the past. But not today. Today this illnes can be properly diagnosed and treated. A person with this disease can live a normal life whereas before they could not. There are medications, exercise, and proper diet for such victims. I don't have the disease but I have learned a person can cause a gradual onset of it by poor living and eating habits. Through this method the onset usually begins with common symptoms of constipation and that gradually progresses to I.B.S. Further progression can lead to a terribly and more serious ulcer forming on the intestine wall.

Don't think you are alone in this disease Guitarguy. Be sure to seek a doctor's help. Look for good advice. Try to set up a program for yourself. Try to stick with it once you and your doctor have decided what you should eat and how you should handle the problems that I.B.S. patients often experience.
