If you jump off of a cliff, building or anything really high up, you just need to do a simple roll when you hit the ground and you will be perfectly fine and fighting fresh.

If you happen to have a pair of iron boots, they somehow only weight you down while wearing them, but while in your pocket they are light as air.

When feeling down, just inject yourslef with a little Stim. Sure, your lifespan will be shortened, but you'll be fast, and that's all that matters. If you over do it, you can call in a medic who can heal you right up with an odd glowing stick sort of thing.

Then you obviously didn't play the short lived Sonic the Pimphog.
It was released around the same time GTA was getting popular.  Sort of a last ditch effort for Sega to save itself:

games taught me that I can pause the world when I feel like it.
games taught me that the world is programmable and I can change it as i wish.

finally, games taught me that sometimes the world ceases to exist (game crashes) and a weird operating system takes it's place which is boring , at least until the bug invasion is over

What I'm hoping for:

Legend of Link: Lord of the Sunset.

You play as Zelda for once, who has to save Link.  The Game would focus more on magic, with the possiblity of crafting spells, and would go deep into the mythology and science of Hyrule: It's species, gods, history, and people.  The end villan would be Gannon of course.

Legend of Zelda: The Forgotton Heir.

A typical legend of zelda game (Guy in green saves royalty from various improbable scenarioes) only instead of Zelda it's her brother.  Link would of course be gay.
