Rychenroller: Azures are a tough fight, immune to all magic. Crystals are highly resistant, fighting about 10 or so in stacks of 2 or 1, a mass slow usually affects about half.
Gabystan: Rych told us Crystal Dragons have partial resistance to Haste (prolly other spells, too)...

It haunted me this mistake I've made, saying Slow instead of Haste, but because of this another question occured to me (mistakes are not entirely bad, huh): is resistance the same with beneficial spells or just when enemy casts them? So would Mass Haste have similar results on Crystal Dragons as Mass Slow?

Edit: I'm damn too lazy to check it myself.

No.
Your own units never resist (beneficial) spells YOU cast. They could resist damage spells YOU cast though (Armageddon for example).

Unless they are resistant to all spells of certain levels like the Azures.  I know this because I tried to cast beneficial spells on them like Cure, Bless, and other spells like those that are in the level 1-3 that they are immune to.

Still they donīt resist the spell, but are immun to it. Like Titans and "blind" for example....

Faerie Dragons

I'll re-post my tests from the WoG subforum, just because I know you guys are so fond of figures...

Quote:
Faeries cast their spells on advanced secondary skill (air, earth, fire, water) level

Damage:

The spellpower, spell points or magic skills of the hero do not matter. Various modifiers (such as Pegasi or Archmagi) don't matter either.

Qurquirish Dragon was right about the damage - the Faerie Dragon has a spellpower of 5, plus the bonus for advanced level. His formula was correct:

basic spell damage x number of Faeries + advanced bonus = total spell damage

e.g. Three Faries cast Magic Arrow:

50 x 3 + 20 = 170

Spell / plus to damage per 1 Faerie*

Magic Arrow / +50
Fireball / +50
Lightning Bolt / +125
Ice Bolt / +100
Inferno / + 50
Meteor Shower / +125
Chain Lightning / +200

The damage to respective Elementals is double as it should be.

Spells:

Faeries cast some spells more often than others. The precise percentage would be hard to guess (if it's not listed anywhere in the manual ), or would require a bigger number of tests.

Needless to say, low level spells from the list above are more common than higher ones. Does the number of creatures per stack matter? (Not likely)

The Faerie Dragon readies certain spells even if all enemy creatures on the battlefield are immune to them (e.g. Fire Sultans are immune to all Fire spells, etc). In that case the Fearie Dragon will engage the enemy creature in melee. (But the way, I've never before paid much attention to how cute they actually are when flying...! ) Note that they can still cast area spells (Frost Ring etc) and thus hurt your own creatures.

You can avoid hurting your units with an area spell if you press the "F" key. In this picture, my Faerie Dragon is going to cast Frost Ring on the War Zealot, EVEN if the War Zealot cannot be targeted directly:

(This way you can cast ANY spell -aside from Chain Lightning- anywhere on the battlefield, even far away from all creatures! )

edit: For those who do not play WoG (and missing big time!), here's the Faerie Dragon's stack experience chart - just to complete this missive!

P.S. As for their Magic Mirror, I have yet to see it! It has NOT occured ONCE in my tests (min. 100 times). The Magic Mirror on my opponent's creatures (War Zealots + others who had it cast upon them) didn't benefit from it either ( in other words, no hostile spell hit back my Faeries...!).

I understand this 20% chance is checked every time for each Faerie Dragon (stack), but still...???

Or does it work in a different way?!

Nice post Vlaad.

I wanna edit one important fact u didnīt mention yet.
If your Faeries are ready to cast a spell u dislike at the current moment (chainlightning e.g.), you can just press the wait button. When its their turn again (in the same round), they have changed their current spell!.

Very good and useful info, Vlaad and Angelito! One Q I have for you Vlaad: is Lightning bolt damage growing by only 25 per 1 Faerie, or is it by 125? It seems too little the +25, compared to the other spells, that's why...

Actually, this is not 100% true.

Each time the spell is chosen randomly. In other words, it is highly unlikely that you would get Chain Lightning twice in a row (because it is level 4 and therefore rare). However, you might get Ice Bolt or Lightning Bolt again.

On the other hand, usually you don't want to change the spell unless it could do splash damage to your creatures as well (especially Chain Lightning). That's why you'd almost never get to see the same spell again.

You are right, of course.

I think Crystal Dragons have close to 50% resistance.
AS for feary dragons, they do have magic mirror, i saw it working countless times.

Does anybody know the exact numbers? Aren't they listed in the manual?

P.S. I hope you don't mind I added a picture of the Faerie Dragon's stack experience chart from WoG. I know the Library is for Heroes 3 vanilla, but I thought it might be interesting.

Play the custom campaign "Eternal Love" by Hans C., where u have to face legions of Faeries. Then u will see how this magic mirror works.. But one fact i noticed is, the faeries never "magic mirrored" mass spells...only single spells casted directly towards a single stack.

Additional tests

Magic Mirror

The problem was I was testing the ability in WoG. If you take a look at the picture of stack experience above, you'll notice the Faerie Dragon starts without Magic Mirror and gets it later.

So I have decided to run my additional tests in SoD (I don't have AB):

INTERESTING: The Faerie Dragon will return the hostile spell, but NOT if it was cast by the opponent's Faerie Dragons! (For the record, I have tried it 100+ times... although I can repeat the test with more.)

What does this mean? Does the Faerie Dragon's spell count as a creature ability?! No, because they cannot hurt creatures immune to certain magic schools.

Spell points

The Faerie Dragon has FIVE "shots" only, no matter what spells it casts. In other words, it's not the same way as with heroes; for Faeries the cost of each spell is irrelevant but the number of turns is limited. After 5 spells the Faerie Dragon will have to engage the enemy in melee combat.

Eh, few battles last for five rounds, coz either you have far more powerful army and kill the little bastards in 2-3 turns, or they demolish you instead without almost suffering a scratch. Except when you Summon elementals for an attrition battle and then resurrect your regular troop(s).

If Faerie's spell casting would be ability, Red Orb should prove useless. Is it? If not, then with Orb is the proper way to take out Faeries, which usually are the ones guarding it.

All artifacts work the way they are supposed to.

I didn't say their spell casting is an ability... Let's say that Faeries have Negate Faerie Dragon's Magic Mirror ability...

Fnord has found the spell probabilities -
Quote:
Spells are chosen randomly with the following probabilities: 22% Ice Bolt, 22% Lightning, 21% Fireball, 10% Magic Arrow, 10% Frost Ring, 5% Inferno, 5% Meteor Shower, 5% Chain Lightning.

Thanks Vlaad and SAG for the info! I know it's only numbers, with no practical help, but good to have precise knowledge about how things work in the game.
