What our HC members are really like
Part 1
I was thinking about how nice the HC members are and I decided that thinking will not get me answers. I do know a few members and these guys are nice but how about others member.
What if just some guy said hello to you? What would you do? I decided to see exactly what HC members would do in this situation.
I said hello to the following people on the 22nd of august till about the 24th. I simply said hello and recorded their names. When they replied I wrote down what they said.
People with nothing next to their name didnt reply.

notice: i did not right down a few members, these members however didnt say hello or i would have recorded it
My Thoughts
many people said hello back but many didnt. some people were very enthusiastic about it and replied with an "!" in thier response. jebus and kman are examples of this
some members seemed to be confused by my casual hello and replied with "?" in thier reply such as gorman and canavaro.
i did talk with a few after getting the original response like conan and gorman, although talking with gorman was very confusing. many ppl were very nice and doing this test was overall fun
so there are the results. i found it surprising that many mods didnt reply. mods have to check thier IMs ocaasionally cause its thier job so no excuse really. for other members, well you can decide on that.

You should note that IMs are not always working properly: I've just got Woock's message from August 28th.

I don't recall that happening to me. Does it happen when multiple people IM you at once?

And u think our main job is to daily respond tons of IM΄s which only content 1 word?
You can be sure every Mod would respond to an IM where users ask for help or something like that, but surlely not for just saying "hello"....perhaps you think of that a bit...

no. i understand what you are saying but other mods did say "hi" back and really it doesnt take long to just say hi?

I have a popup stopper inbuilt into my browser, so I never get IMs on this site. So if anyone wonders why I never reply to IMs, it's because I never get them.

u should turn the blocker off for a second once in a while to get IMs. or u could go into the program and tell it to accept IMs from HC

Interesting Thread, LordPC...
I look forward to Round #2, but I hope that you will IM people with some sort of statement that gets a variety of responses...that would be interesting to see!

I wonder if I got your IM. Usually when people I don't recognize send me an IM, they ask me if I want to play Heroes (which isn't even installed on my computer) or they do just say hi. I really don't have time to chat with someone i don't know on something as slow as IM's, MSN or something would have been different.

this is very much the point. to see what HC members would do when some one they dont know says hi. in your case you didnt know me so you ignored it. some other people, like thefoehammer, looked deeper into what was behind the hello.
i just wanted to test HC members when put in this situation
