Game Reviews

Thinking about buying a game but you'r not sure wheater it's good enough? Or looking for a good oldie but not sure which one to get?

Well look no further then here!! Sir Dunco's Game Reviews is the place for you.
Everything from the newst games to the oldest oldies shal be rated and revied here.
Feel free to share your thoughts with other members about yor favourtie games here.

Today hot preview shall be a fresh one. The game with the title Dungeon Seige 2 awaits your atention.

Dungeon Seige 2

After the very sucesfull first part of the series the guys from Gas Powered Games fecided to come op with the sequel.

For those of you who enjoyed the first title, shall also enjoy this sequel. This one is ment for anyone who enjoys Action RPG's like Diablo 2.

The beging of the game talks about the end of the first age through a meeting of two powerful artifacts around which the game revolves. One of theese omnipowerful artifact, the sword, has fallen to the hands of the powerhungry prince Valdis. And your job, as usual, is to stop him from overtaking the world. Well, here is the first weakness of the game. The story.

You as the usual saviour of the world shall have to hack through a hell-of-alot of opponets to stop the madman.

But to take it from the begening. After viewing the intro which talks about the base of the story you  begin to form your charater.
Eventhough the main screen and character creation screen looks like a freeware version of Zelda, the graphich shall surprise you.

When creating a character you can choose from 4 races. Apart from the usual elf and human race you can choose also a dryad or half-giant. Each of these races has it's unique abilities and potentials but it's purely up to you as how you choose the race. After creating your character you begin the game.

You star as one of Valdises mercenaries attacking a dryad temple. This part is only a prologue so don't get to attached to your companion, a fatihfull elf, who shall waste his life for you.

This prologue theaches you the bacics of the game. From simple fighting and spellcasting to collecting items and casting spells.

Since we are at the beging let's talk about the gameplay.
I have to addmit that it is excelet. From the onscreen help to the easy way of casting spells on the main scree to using potions via hotkeys(no more draging potions like in Diablo 2, a simle H or M will do)

The screen is set up excelently just as you need. A great plus for this game.

After the prologue you wake up in a prison in the dryad city and begin your actual quest. To stop Valdis. First you shall have to earn the Dryads trust by preforming various task, usualy involving killing a large number of opponents.

As in DS1 you form your party by hirring NPC's. A various rangre from elven archers, through dryad spellcaster, to half giant warriors awaits your commands and more.

What is great about the game is its unique way of forming the character. Those of you who have played DS1 shall be familliar with this. There are four arts. Ranged, Close Comabat, Nature and Combat magic. Depening on how you choose your charaters to behave in combat so shall they be formed(when using Bows and Ranged weapons they'r ranged skill shall increase, when using Combat magic they't skill in this shall increase. ect.)
So choose wisely as how you form them and rember to use a maximum if two skills in combat or your character shall become weak overall.

The choosing of your party is also nice. After hiring NPC's you get full control of the, so you can for them any way you wish. Apart from hiring NPC's you can also buy pets such as mules to increase your invetory, or powerfull allies such as dire wolves or ice elemnetals. But don't think that after purchasing a direwolf for a copule hudnre gold it shall imediately be a powerfull warior. No, you have to feed them. They especialy enjoy magical artifacts as to make them strong and help them frow from a mere baby to a full grown adult.

The combat system si very simmilair to Diablo 2. Well the point is to click alot and kill as many as you can and then escape to the city via a town portal or a teleporter. The opponents don't heal overtimes so you can always finsh them later.
After defeating an opponent you can find anything from a small stack of gold to a rare artifact, so pick up everith using the Z key.
The big fights can get a bit chaotic, but thos who like alot of action wont mind.

Level-up is also simmilair to diablo2. After gaining a level you get a certain amount of skill point which you can distribute amongst the skills from your favourite combat skill wheather it is close combat or nature magic.

Also during adventuring you won't alway just have to hack and slash. There are a couple of puzzles per each chapter as to make the game a bit more interesting.

For those of you interested some pics cam be found here: http://www.sector.sk/clanok.asp?idrec=19971

OVERALL

For those who like alot of action in RPG's and especialy those who liked Diablo II this is your must get game.
For more hardcore RPG and AD&D fans the endless and sometimes pointless fights shall be your end after a few hours of playing.

GRAPHICS: 8/10 They are surprisingly good and exceeding expectations after seeing the mainscreen

GAMEPLAY: 10/10 Simple, easy and all you need is on the main screen

STORY: 6/10 Probaly the weakest point of the game.

REQUIREMENTS: 7/10 well the game requires for maximum detail 3,4 GHz proccesor, 1GB RAM, GF 6000. So choose wisely

Overall rating 85%

I just got Dungeon Seige Two. Haven't played it much, it looks pretty good. Kind of like Baldur's Gate with Morrowind aspects.

Lord_Pc

I can answer both of your questions with one word, yes.

I found the button to pick up all dropped items very useful.
But as i said, the game is very action filled and your characters attack when attacked, but the NPC you hired attack on sight.
