spotting a dropper

I dont know how many people are aware that it is simple to see when an opponent flee's from a fight or loses a fight and then leaves the game with the"i got hit by lightning"chestnut.
when it is your opponents turn you can select your BOTTOM hero and then select a town but dont enter the town.if your opponent loses a battle/hero the computer will automatically select your TOP hero for you.thus you are aware that your opponent has lost a fight.if your opponent then leaves the game claiming to have connection problems....well.....they are obviously lying.
the only problem with this is its easy to counter.any player worth thier salt knows when a loss is coming and can then tab out of the game and close any connection.
this is my first topic on hc....feedback would be appreciated

Usually I let them do it.. if they cant win their fights I can beat them anyway, and if they feel they need to cheat, I can let em, its no biggie

It's all about trying to fight that worthy opponent, and match wits n skills

I see what you are saying bjorn but when a player drops on me and says it was a connection problem he is insulting my intelligence,if the player asked me for a reload in 90%of the times i would happily give,i dont have a problem with giving 2nd chances to people who misjudged a fight before they entered it.i have a problem however with people who try to insult my intelligence and cheat.

I totally agree with you, Durell. Mistakes are always forgivable, but not lies/cheating. There are players who don't even lose a fight and "lose" connection 1st turn, when there's a poor high level artie in sight, so they think "ugh, my opponent surely got a better one, so why not restart this one?".

Talking of insulting, I've had a few of them as well: I let all my troops in a garrison but the fast ones for movement gain, so my opponent attacked me instantly, after waiting several times for me to make a move on his hero on his turf (Necro on dirt). Ok, it was my fault to leave my troops down (I've been told before troops are positioned back to the hero in case of attack and were NOT), but why did he lie he didn't notice my troops are in garrison? Well, although under 20, he's such a likable guy I can't understand to this day why he acted like that. Most of you know him, but I won't give his name coz everyone deserves a second chance, right?

Second time an opponent (also an under 20 years player) verbalized his anger for my skills growing up each turn significantly and his much slower. Just to find myself Imploding under his spells with all the superior A+D skills I've had. Sure enough, he got the Tome of Earth on the island (West vrs East map). I usually won't talk about details of the game, coz don't want neither the information given away to turn against me nor what I am told to be misleading.

Q: I'm not sure this is the right place to do this, but I'd like to ask you if red player visiting the opponent's refugee camp day 1 and buying the creature(s) is leagal or not if red rush is forbidden (my personal example is from Desert War).

Edit: only a few typing mistakes corrected.

good question gabystan,i have no idea if hitting blues refugee camp would be considered legal under RR rule, but i am pretty certain that such a move lacks honor.

Couldn't agree more. If they mess up, then why not simply admit it instead of dropping, or finding "a very good reason to avoid the loss". If they are honest, I'll let them redo their turn 90% of the time as well.
I'll also use this opportunity to b***h a little about some "legit" cheaters. I.e. the ones that get angelwings and fly around like crazy (and then yell that "no fly" rule only applies to the spells), or the ones that find a buggy unguarded passage on jebus and try to collect all resources from the new area in addition to their own area and then claim that "the FMG rule does not apply because there were no misplaced guards around to fight". It helps to check the maximum number of towns your opponent can get on a template you are playing and check if he got too many or got some towns quicker than he should have had (i.e. 3 towns on BB on week 1, or 4+ towns on jebus on weeks 1-2 is usualy too many). To do it, simply click on the small window that usually shows the current player during your opponent's turn and it will show how many towns and what type of towns he has.
Also, raname your autosave every 2-3 turns. And if he "drops" - definitely rename it. Sometimes you'll even see his main set his path towards an unbeatable stack of critters when you review the save after the game which is a definite giveaway of him suiciding.
But even if you grab them by the hand, be prepared for hours and hours of whining about them being "legit and honorable players who did not break any rules".
PS: to see all of this cheating and whining in action - play Immortal.

Great info Stephen  I just recently learned this from you in the zone.  Wish I would have known it a bit earlier this year as I had a game with someone (1400 on toh) on BB that dropped week 2.  I had no problem reloading autosave when he came back to the zone.  When he did come back he said he lost connection, but didn't want to continue because he doesn't like to play games with saves.  Well this was weird seeing as he was the person who dropped.  After a small amount of arguing with him, he pointed out that he was a 1400 on toh and I was 1000... so he would have won anyways.

BTW Russ, in that game I had Castle and Portal week 1 on BB  Muhahahahahaha!! Too bad he left

the most annoying thing is when a guy that seems very forthgoing and nice at first, starts a game that looks like great fun and then he starts whining and in the end drops.

happende today

ROFL!!! I guess I try to give the benefit of the doubt. Thought I could win the game anyways even if he did drop.  Just recently I had tried to start a game with someone but never actually got a game going.  After 5 restarts, I had to call it quits.  Playing random hero on 2 occasions, I had Hack... perhaps he saw my main and decided he was "blocked".  Later, I checked a save from day 1 and saw that the road was blocked by lots of imps.  Even if he didn't want to fight the imps, he could have gone around them.

I go to the zone the following day and see that person playing against someone I know.  So I message my friend and ask how his game is going?  He said, "we have restarted 6 times now!!"  I had to laugh!!

Hehe...its too easy to take bad starts to the extreme.i recall you coming into the zone and mentioning said game to said player lee.thing is,this particular player has an awesome WW record (i wonder why)fears a loss so much that(like i said in the zone)will use any excuse...like imps =block....to get a restart ,when the TRUE reason is bad starting bonus,no 2nd dwelling prebuilt,no offence/armour hero, had to go urinate, didn't like the way my hair looked,my dinner was on the table blah blah blah.....if ya get a bad start the answer is this as far as i am concerned win or suicide trying..... either that, or be honest and hope your opponent and hope your opponent is as forgiving as many of us are(i get a feeling that those who play ONLY for the win are unforgiving when it comes to hearing about thier opponents bad luck).
 just my opinion however.
