Decks and the game

Is this the sort of CCG where there is a lot of strategy in tech-ing out your deck with sweet combos and novel builds (like Decipher's Star Wars CCG and magic) or is it more dependent on drawing the right cards and playing strategy. It seems there isn't much discussion about the sorts of cards to use in decks at the moment, is that because that consideration isn't so important or because the game's still pretty new?

Also, is there a premiere fan site yet, with strategies, decks and the like?

It's because its still pretty new.

There are threads about the types of cards to use and what quantity. Most of the discussion centers around basic deck building. Your typical basic deck will have a couple of heros and a mix of all levels of creatures for that alignment, 2 towns, several skills and maybe spells, several artifacts, several locations. Certain cards are common in these decks, Tactics for skills, lower phase units, and artifacts that effect your phase like Helm of Command, Ring of Speed and Halberd of the Swiftwatch.

Advanced deck building is a lot more complicated and I am not even there yet. Its real easy to throw the cards above in a deck and hope for the right pulls to get there. Its a different story to try and mix multiple factions, using the best of both and ensuring you can create both early, or creating a deck that focuses on low level hordes, a larger number of heroes, a mixture of mean guards, etc....

There are so many facets and possibilities that other than the designers most of us have not seen enough gameplay to work all this out just yet. So I would expect to see that type of discussion growing soon.

And from what I know this will be the place to discuss it until some fan sites show up as well.

Understandable, and the stuff you discuss is exactly what I was talking about. It'll be interesting to see if players can pull it off with some experience.

Cool. I'll hopefully be getting some cards soon and writing a review for Celestial Heavens. Before people go and make a fan site, they should contact us at CH - we might open to the possibility of hosting either a sub-site or a section of the main site on the game. It'd be great exposure and you've already got a large pool of HOMM fans hanging around.

Anyway, I'll drop by the boards occasionally and see what's happening
