Honorable People / Situations!

I just received a personal message that was really encouraging to see and hear about.  I will post it if I am given permission.  This message was simply a persons explanation of an experience they were involved with in a game that was handled in a most honorable and respectful manner, self sacrificing too.  They weren't looking for any glory out of it or anything like that, but rather describing an event related to a thread topic off the record.  I thought, dang I would like to read more of events like this and I think it would benefit all players.

So let's talk of the most honorable, respectful, and well mannered events that you have been involved in or heard about in playing HOMM.  Might even call this good gossip.

I am starting with another one. Next post.

I've been in several situations (on a random map) where we have had a rule in place..."restart if meet week one". Now the situation occurs where my opponent will break thru and encounter me with a slightly superior army...say on week 2 day 4 and at that stage all you need is a slight advantage to win.But then they will say..."this will make for a crap game, lets restart".Most recent examples of this have been with a_snake and Kriegsturm, they are more interested in having a good game than jumping me for some easy points, I also make a habit of doing this now.I feel this is an honorable act...more interest in having a good game than a quick easy one

The Honorable Zud

I once played a clan game with Zud (still unfinished btw - it is now in game gahena).  He is one of the most respectful and great people to play with.  I had nothing but a great time playing with him.

We continued this game on one occassion and upon return.... DOH!...I hit end turn without buying my level 7 Titan structure day seven.  How much lamer can you feel after a blunder like this?  Thus, I commented' "that is the end of the game.....I concede.  I forgot to build a structure."  I know it may not have been the end of the game since there was plenty left to do and this was only week one or two (can't remember) however, I was feeling very far behind already and that it was certainly over without the 3 Titans that coming week.

I asked Zud to allow me to restart the autosave and buy the Cloud Temple or the game was over and at that point I was fine with reporting right there or we could continue but I would need to restart my autosave and buy that structure.

Zud impressed me and not only said that continuing would be fine and only fair, but also was not hungry to take a report from the game and even willing to continue and possibly lose.  We never did finish that game before season II changed to season III.  Clans were started over and there is now not much point to finish that game.  I feel bad for not finishing the game since his clan deserved a win for it back then.  But, I lagged and never got back together with him though we saw eachother many times in the zone.

In summary, Zud's awards are well given and I have experienced his gracious attitude and love for the game first hand.  I would encourage any and all to play Zud if you are looking for a great game for the sake of having a good competitive time.

I salute you, Zud - Man of Honor.

Hehehe

Nice one Rychen,

Man you are quick to the draw....err...keyboard

Best regards, and your post was encouraging to me to follow the same example as A_snake, Krieg, and yourself.  Very cool.

Cheers deth...and a great topic to get away from those "done to death" ones.I havent had the honor of playing zud...although we share a similar approach to the game and I dont really like to name names (for fear of leaving anyone out), but there are a lot of honorable players out there who will " do it for the game " rather than the points...you know who you are

never played lich-king, but I have encountered a similar situation with grand-elf. I won the game, but might have never won it if he had not allowed me to replay a turn when i wanted to shift my troops and artifacts to my main hero, but completely forgot to do that.

Way to go. TOH needs more players like this.

Honorable/FUn players

For me, in my limited playing time in TOH, Khayman and JoetheLoser have been the most enjoyable to play.

DaveDrocunus i have found to be very honest and liked to try out many new maps with me, i find hime very trustworthy.

Had another situation the other day with Jex, started a game on HG2 while an AC type game started next door (which i know he likes to play). Anyway he was going to concede our so he could play that one!, Needless to say we just ditched the game coz we were only on about day 6 anyway. This isnt an honorable situation... just someone who seemed to me to care more about the enjoyment of the game, rather than his points

Thxs RychRoller

I appriecate that
I am just glad you arent like the last guy I gave a free victory to in the first week. He zm's me everytime I enter the zone now wanting another one. I am also glad you didnt actually want the win cause I would have given it. I think that sayz something about urself
I dont understand how the poor guy i gave that free win to can derive any enjoyment out of getting a victory in the first week on hg2, same with a division that was overjoyed when I decided not to play...
Personally I dont find it that fun when an opponent tells me that he killed himself, and the game is over. Next time that happens I think I will take leason from this topic and tell him to replay their turn differently, so I can kill em instead

Great Post Deth8

I have played so many people in TOH it shows i have no life hehe. i am glad to say though that most people in TOH are very honorable and wish to say thank you and dont lose faith because of the people that wont be talked about in this post

i would have to say some of the most honorable people i have played are:

VU -  hey you still smell
Jester - attack dang you, you've got me after 30 hours hehe
khayman - yeah 9 hour draws always suck
deth8 - still waiting to be beat by you again
the old one - always an honorable game, even if i fall asleep
Hapkane - oops customers gotta go for a few min

i know i'm not the funnest player to play due to my lack of conversation, but i enjoy playing these players every time. sorry if i missed some of you on here because there are simply to many to list.

take care all

Well I can second that, if u just substitute slow_worm with Eliogabalus. Great and fun 4 games I had with him in nations, eventhough he whopped my bip every time.
Last season I had some good games with Slow_worm aswell, I can really recommend playing those 2, for fun and good games.

I've had lots of great games with lots of great people, the most notable of which was a game against a chinese player named Nieqi. He played me a TOH game, I allowed him a map choice and colour. He ended up wiping me off the map before the end of the third week, he was just so much better than I was, it wasn't funny. As he attacked my home castle, he withered down my army to about 20 trogs and a few harpies and then I admitted defeat. He turned around and surrendered his main and told me very graciously that it was an honour to play me and I would not need to report my loss to TOH because quite simply he would not report his win. I had never played a TOH game with someone only to have them win and tell me that to claim a victory against me would be dishonourable because he was so much more experienced than I am and that the honour was in playing me, not the actual win or loss. Nieqi, you are very high on my honourable player lists. If you change your mind about your win, my offer still stands.

Had a game with Grand Elf today...and sometimes I put certain combats on quick mode just to get them over with if I have an early level 7. Well this time i forgot to take it off as I attacked a town with a scout who had mobile armies and archers. Needless to say, on quick combat I lost, but Grand said we will load the auto. I went on to win this game, but I dont know what would have happened if I hadnt taken that 2nd town at that stage. A definite act of honour.

I shud mention Edward_third

He and me,had game on HG2 map

I've done good. Yes.. I thought i will win this game

I take almost all of the middle land artifacts along
with cartograper.

I was to win.

But in sudden,, from the unviewable island...
he come attack my capital town.
Yes.. it was damn dimension door...
and.. yes.. it was day 7..
and...... yes.. he and me was same town..necro.
also.... oh god... he had town portal..

It was such frustrating situation.

I hurried back to my capital and attacked him...
sure.. i lost..but... I fought good.. only 100 skels
were left for him after his victory.. it was real good animate dead vs animate dead battle..

then, he said.. he won.. but.. he would report his defeat..

so, I asked why?

He said.. I outplayed him this game.. but.. tomb of air..
he got.. dimension door.. made his victory possible..

I said.. no.. anyway you won... he said.. no you won..
and.. he reported his loss..

Sorry.. I reported my victory.. I needed some points..

I'm not honorable man.. but what about him..Edward3rd?

I think he is one of the honorable players.

Every time. I report here..I feel very very sorry that my English sucks.
