I was over at my friends house when he popped Heroes 2 in his computer.  At the time, I didn't understand it and actually thought it was pretty stupid.  Gather items, pretend to fight.

Soon, though, Heroes 3 came out and his computer couldn't handle it.  So he would always ask to play it at my house.  Sure, why not?  He even got me to play a few games.  Then I was F'ing hooked.  Later, we burned a copy, and now I can't stop playing.

Just goes to show that first impressions aren't always right

Still, you gotta admit it is sorta a silly game . . .

I'd expect to see 80 percent of the board sign up...

Well first off, i know 2 people who continually post lame non-thread oriented posts that for sure will not be signing up for heroes 4 TOH.  Because they aren't players and just like like to flap their pie-hole.

Ok enuf of that.

I have been playing heroes since H1, but i have been engrossed in the Might and Magic series all the way back to the original Might and Magic in 1984 or 1985

my HoMM story

I bought a compilation called "Ultimate Strategy Archives", must have been in 1998. It contained older games (even old in 1998), like "Civilization". I purchased it mainly because of "Conquest of a new World" and "Jagged Alliance - Deadly Games" and it took me several months of playing those before installing the other games. Some day I did install HoMM1.. and I found it even better than the games I bought the compilation for. HoMM2.. almost same story.. compilation "Game Gallery"... but HoMM2 was one of the reasons I bought it.. only played the first campaign, cause it took too much of my time (had to finish my studies ).. since december 2000 I play HoMM3 online.. well, and the rest is history

The beginning of an addiction

I think it was about 1996 when a CD-MIX containing several pirate games landed on the house I was renting. Me and a renting-companion used to play Warlords II in hotseat and we said: "let's have a look to this alternate strategy game" We start playing (cooperatively against the comp) at 18:00, got inmediately hooked and said "enough for today" about 03:00 that night, cos we both had to go to university classes next morning.

But next morning never came for HOMM1, cos the following day someone brought us a copy of HOMM2. And that was the only day I played HOMM1 till last year, when I found it on a collection of old glorious games and purchased it. To finish its campaigns is one of my future duties, but I don't find time enough to do it.

The rest is history: thousands of hours of game history.

What do you think is the most funny looking creature in HoMM1? I think it's the phoenix.

it's been a while...

Well, as I can recall, I and my brothers got hold of a pirated CD on our old computer way back in September 1998, where we experimented with a few games. It was here where we stumbled across Heroes I, and since our first taste of the game, we were immediately hooked to the game. I especially liked to play with the Barbarian town in that game simply because of their no terrain penalty.

In mid-1999 I moved onto Heroes II and dumped Heroes I. I continued with Heroes II until September 2000, when I moved into Heroes III.

I played Heroes III for two years (although recently I have been playing Diablo II a lot more) and I am still playing it alongside Heroes IV, which I moved into only a few weeks ago.

Hmmm, how many of you learned about Heroes series 4-5 or even more years ago...

Me...I get a copy of H3 from a friend, hated it and forgot about it. That was little before start of 2001. Couple of months later, I didn't have anything to play so decided to try H3 again. And it definately worked as now it, with Fallout, is my best game...

And I still haven't seen H1 or H2, and wishing I haven't seen H4...

One of my friends introduced me to H2 when I was around 13 or 14, so 6 or 7 years ago. I was hooked. I eagerly awaited H3. I even downloaded the 91 MB demo through a dialup modem. Took around 10 hours. I was not disappointed. I remember playing the hell out of the demo. My crowning feat was when I managed to get the Grail into all 3 towns (not at once) just so I could see what their grail building was. Ah, fun times.

My first Heroes experience was from a PC Gamer trial disc which contained a tryout version of Heroes 2. Gosh, I don't even remember which year it was exactly. It was the feature of the disc, according the the cover (which I still have). The version contained the Broken Alliance single player scenario; would alter my home life drastically. Followed up with the retail version and its expansion pack.

PC Gamer kept posting that Heroes 3 would be released around eight months away (that would persist for about two years time before it FINALLY did). The demo version arrived on disc; it offered the Dead and Buried scenario. It was cool, but the fun factor was cut dangerously short (for me, at least) because the programmers set the time limit to 4 weeks in this version. So later, when I got the full game, I was satisfied. The Shadow of Death expansion came after, and that would occupy my time.

Had to say hell with Heroes 4. The reviews I read had enough clues that this would not be the same game I've always enjoyed; had to draw the line that time.

I still play Heroes 3, but not for long hours like I used to. College work, church, and a girl have managed to turn me away from the old ways. But it's still quite fun.

My story..

One day of Semptember 3-4 years ago I sat at my comp. bored because I didn't had new games to play when I saw a DEMO cd that had HOMM2 in it.I had heard about the HOMM 3 and AB expansion (!) at that time and I had played M&M 6 so I figured let's test it!In the begining the the only thing I did was to move my hero around the adventure map collecting unguarded items (wood ore etc) visiting places that were granting something (new skills + morale etc) without knowing what they do. Until an enemy came and battled me (I didn't even know how to move the troops) so I kept losing until I started a new game and decided to stay inside my castle until they attack. So the days became weeks (in the game) and I was standing by in my town until one day I accidently discovered that I can actually recruit monsters and build new buildings! And when I built everything. An powerful enemy hero attacked by I had tonns of creatures and of course black dragons (I was a warlock) I realised how to battle and I won, took great artifacts and tonns of xp! Then I started exploring the map and that was it.Afterwards I realized what morale, luck different aligments (and the moral penalty that comes with it) do,found how can I cast spells and in general how to play the game.I won that game (difficulty : easy ofc).I started anew and kept playing-experimenting new heroes etc and about one month later I was playing HOMM 3!

HoMM2 in '96 I think... Got H3 RoA in 2000 (maybe 1999), and H4 in umm, 2002 or 2001. Not sure which year it was released..
Then I bought HoMM Platium Edition in 2003, getting H2 PoL, H3 SoD and AB, plus H1.
