All these changes! ugh!
First off
The new messenging system, absoloutly horrible IMO, The old one was ten times better than this horrid abomination.
Last 10 replys..Uh-uh..no way, stick with 5..and put it back in the right order
Topic, Poster name..

Also, Where did the top 10 go? I dont want 10 random discussions, i want to know what is the ten hottest thread in HC. Come on Val!

The setup looks fine to me. If you want the name and topic switched around, Val can probably do that without much trouble.
The new messager thingie is rather convenient, since people can receive their messages instead of losing them (as the case was before). Also, you review old messages, as opposed to only being able to read them once.
I don't know about the new 10 random topics, but I didn't really see the point of the old Top 10 Threads; they mostly stayed the same as long as I can remember. It's not likely that they would've changed much in such short time.
I say we give these new changes a try.

And you think your request will change anything ? For a person who has no idea about why and how was the old IM system changed you sound too demanding, don't you think so ?

I have to agree with 2XtremeToTake, I liked the old system better too where you didnt have to use the full screen.

Overall, I feel the full screen isn't too inconvenient. I agree that the old version was small and quick, but that had too many low points going against it. Plenty of people complained about not receiving IMs and it wasn't too hard to accidentally delete unread IMs. The new messager has done well to fix these problems thus far.

2X, I think at this point anything was better than the old system since the old system did not work. I'd rather have a system that works then no system at all.
In any case, Lich here has a point and that goes for all users: if you're going to say it's bad or that you don't like it, try proposing solutions, that way it can meet what you want next time it changes. 
And I have to say I like the random hot threads since now I actually look at them. Before, it was always the same 10 threads and I didn't even bother to look.
I also like the fact that the latest replies list has expanded to show more, since I'd always click on Show more before.
I'd say that this is better than it used to be.

For those who are concerned about it, why don't we give the new message system more time so people can use it and evaluate the quality for themselves. If any flaws arise, they can report it to Val and he can look into it. The system is still very young at the moment, so maybe we should wait until momentum builds up. Perhaps somebody can post a poll in the near future asking people how they like the message system.

I'd at least like a popup with the new HC messenger notifying me when i have new messages then. Otherwise its more like checking email then a messenger, because when its open, i'll have to manually refresh it to receive new messages.

1)new IM system
are you nuts??
you'd rather have 20IM's pop up in your face where you have to minimize'em all to continue surfing?? come now, you jest? Now when I WANT to look at IM's I can..
full screen?? I just make the page smaller... no need to max it out.
(only thing I'd change is that I have a list of all my sent IM's that YOU store... I like the "unread" list..
but the "stored" list is annoying cuz i can't get rid of it) and Russ stores them ALL! 
2) 10 last threads??
I love it... much better than the "expanded list"
that only showed the thread starter and the "last update".
..finally,
the only problem I have with "random HOT threads"
is that how can a thread from 3 years ago (that is no longer active) be considered a HOT thread!
(I thought when i first saw it that Val came up with a way to show the "most active" threads... hence the "hot".)
just put random threads instead.
(Jeebs for mod... or at least some qp's)
EDIT:
just noticed that "expanded list" for last posted threads is still the old format...
wouldn't it make sense to have it follow the actual
"last posts" list?
(instead of having the thread starter, show who posted last)

Actually 2X, when you have an IM (or more than one) it shows up in red under Heroes Community title on index page.
I felt the same way as you before I noticed this.

I did kind of like the thread top ten threads. And wouldn't have minded if they were a bit more specific, like most active all-time, most active past 24 hours, most active past week, past month.
Those would change quite often and I think those would be the most helpful, especially if you could exclude wastelands threads amongst these rankings.
