Old boardgames from childhood

I have recently been out on an Ebay spree to recover lost board games that i remember as a child.
I found Poleconomy and Mousie Mousie. The latter especially brings back
good memories. We would go to my Grandmothers out in the country, and my uncle and aunt and maybe some visiting uncles and aunts would be there.
7 of us would sit around a table and play Mousie Mousie.
You have a little round mat about 4" in diametre and seven different coloured mice with long tails. Everyone places the mouse in the mat and starts off with 3 counters and the remainder belongs to the catcher who has a little tub the size of the mat and a six sided dice with a colour on each side.
If i remember correctly Blue and Red are the colours which when they appear the catch must slam down the tub on the mat and catch as many players as he can.
Everyone he catches gives him a counter, and everyone who escapes gets a counter from the catcher.
If the catcher slams down the tub on any non catching colour then he gives a counter to anyone who remains on the mat, but gets one from anyone who moves when they are not supposed to.
To win the banker/catcher must rid everyone of their counters. (This is quite rare)
What usually happens is the banker runs out of counters, and whoever has the most is the next catcher.
A nerve jangling game with so much fun for such a simple idea.

Anyone here have good memories of games before pc's from childhood.
Long posts please if you like. i am always on the lookout for some old fashioned fun.
Share your memories.

I was an adult when personal computers were invented. So I played a lot of board games. Can't remember very many though.

I never heard of Poleconomy.  Mousie Mousie sounds familiar, but I don't think I've played it.

One game that comes to mind is Stratego (sp?).  It was a tactical battle game.  Different playing pieces had different levels (general, colonel, etc.).  The higher level piece captures the lower level.  You can't see the level of the other players pieces until you attack.  Much of the strategy involves using low level pieces to "scout" the other player....and keeping you're high level hidden until needed.

Some others are Risk, Life, Clue, Battleship, Sorry.  An old classic I played a lot of as an adult is Backgammon.  I just saw an old game on Ebay I forgot all about...Uncle Wiggly...I don't remember anything about it except I liked it when I was a kid.  Another I forgot about is Operation (I'm checking Ebay as I write)

Are you looking for games on Ebay just for nostalgia, or games you would want to play as an adult?  I've thought about stocking up on some board games myself.  I've checked Ebay a few times, but haven't bought anything yet.

I don't hear much about board games these days.  But people are obviously buying a lot of them, or there wouldn't be so many on the store shelves.  Some of the larger stores have several asiles of games.

I've also talked to a few people about starting weekly game sessions, but don't have enough interest yet.  The thing about board games is that they're a lot more social that computer games.  It's almost more of a party with a group of people just having a good time and nobody getting too serious.

Some of these older games are still in production i think.
Looking at ebay there has not been one yet that i have not been able to find.
"Pass the Pigs" is another game. It is impossible to play without laughing.
I was 16 and just left school when the Atari bat and ball came out, so i guess i too was an adult by the time PC games started.
You asked if i am looking for games i would enjoy as an adult, or just nostalgia, well its both, the only reason i lost these games to begin with was because my mum passed on all my stuff onto my younger brother who then sold them to school friends or second hand stores. Same with my book collections.
I just got mousie mousie in the post today and also won a bid on Poleconomy
which is like thinking mans monopoly.
Just type it into google and you can see a picture of the
board and look at the rules.
"Pass the pigs" and Hotel are up next.
I will read up on the games you mentioned, some of which i had not heard of before.
Many thanks.

There is a decent computer version of Risk by Infogrames.

Stratego is very much alive and there are championships being played each year. Same for Backgammon.

Another boardgame classic is Halma.

boardgames?

while it is not a traditional boardgame, it was one that pretty much dominated my childhood... Crossbows and Catapults... now, if anyone actually knows of it, I will be impressed...

Monopoly - for sure.  It is hard these days to find someone to play it with, have worn out all my friends, and most of my nieces and nephews too!! I like a game called articulate - like pictionary but you describe the words/people/etc rather than draw them.  I have heard of a game called rapidoh where you mould the word out of dough, sounds like fun too.

These are not really "board" games because they have no board, but I love the dice games Yahtzee and Greed, and the card game 500.

Woops, think I have given away my love of board games it is a great way to spend a night with friends and a bottle of your favourite poison.

EDIT

Just realised you are more interested in childhood games.  Well, monopoly still - one of my only memories from being really young is when I got kicked off through bankrupcy - the last straw was when I had to pay a poor tax!!! My last $15

We also used to play a game - I can't remember the name of it now - It was a cylinder with heaps of pick up sticks (another game in itself) stuck underneath a heap of marbles.  You had to pull out the sticks without the marbles falling.  Hours of fun.
