Way of Life

The Orientals are peaceful human that lives with and work with mythical animals. These mythical animals protect Amatsu¡Çs codes of honour under the commands of the Oriental¡Çs Samurai or Shrine Maiden.

At time of peace, the Orientals lead peaceful lives involving trading and honing their skills. They usually start and end their day with a prayer to achieve a peace of mind. As ardent peacemakers, the Orientals isolate themselves with affairs of the world unless it threatens their very own existence. Although they maintain trading relations with Haven, Academy and Dungeon, they did not interfere with their politics nor send aid to them when requested.

However, the Orientals maintain a friendly diplomatic relation with Haven and Academy where countries of these factions trade more frequently and the Orientals seek talents from these countries to migrate to their countries frequently if needed.

The Orientals believed in the balance of the world just as there are day and night and life will go through endless cycles where one will birth, age and die. They have a strong dislike for Necromancy as this art breaks the very belief of life having to go through the cycle of birth and death. They tend to avoid Necropolis at all cost.

The Orientals did not particularly hate Infernal demons. However, fight between demons and Amatsu mythical creatures are common as demons fervently desire to annihilate all humans from the world and their desires threaten Amatsu¡Çs existence greatly.

There is no relation between the Oriental and Sylvan faction.

The Origins

28-40 YSD: Wars of Fire
During this chaotic reign, clusters of groups consisting elves and human from Haven, Academy and Sylvan organized themselves to run away from the battlefield. These cowards figured out one another¡Çs motives and regrouped as a coalition due to their common goal.

Led by a strong human leader with the aid of the wisest of these humans and elves, they seize food surplus domestic animals and several art pieces, literature pieces and magic scrolls. Hiding under the shades of the night they flee toward the sea. Once aboard, they set sail for the east.

40-41 YSD: Persecution of the traitors
After the war, a group of bloodthirsty, vengeful human commanders formed an alliance to hunt these traitors down.

Also, a small group of elves were dispatched to assassinate these elves escapees to recover their lost relic and to prevent these elves from teaching the lowly human their supreme magic. Only a quarter of these escapees survived while they were on the run.

41 YSD: Exile of the Elvish traitors
At a peaceful dinner, the elvish assassinators appeared openly before their victims. These diners panicked and flee in all directions futilely.

Once these elvish assassinators managed to stall all the elves, they started explaining to these escapees about their dilemma about killing them. A conspiracy between these elves were made where the escapees surrenders a portion of their loot and be exiled while the elvish assassinators returned to their kingdom and deceive of their successful purge for most of the elvish traitors.

41 YSD: Dissolved persecution
Being weary of mindless pursuit and killing after the tiring war, these soldiers revolted against their commanders and return to Falcon Empire.

These elvish and human escapees flee to extreme east of the world and started to build their empire there.

42 YSD: Rise of the Orientals
Having learnt much from the elves during the persecution, these humans realise their deficiency compared to the elves. The elves, on the other hand, maintain their distance from human and only mate among themselves.

After both sides having appointed their leaders and numerous discussions made, they formed a hierarchy consisting of the elves as aristocrats and most human as the middle class. Elves who displayed their abilities were granted the title Patriarch. Sylath and Sylanna were being worship as gods for the Orientals.

Due to their lack of people and influence, a free port was established to attract people to trade with them and made a living there. Their influence spread like wildfire, and their land were commonly known as ¡Æthe free city of the East¡Ç and their people as Orientals.

48 YSD: The Falcon Empire becomes the "Holy" Falcon Empire
Dissent grows among many citizens who resent being forced to abandon their faith in Sylath. Hearing rumours on a group of human in the Far East worshipping the Sylath, many human decides to leave to capitalize on this opportunity.

50 - 300 YSD: Establishes Trade Relations
¡ÆThe free city of the East¡Ç flourished while they secured many trade relations around the world. Haven and Academy were among their trading partners which established a friendly, diplomatic relation with the Orientals.

333 YSD: 1st Eclipse: Test for the Orientals
A total lunar eclipse provokes a massive rupture of the Demon Prison. The Demon Lords forced their way out and wreaked havoc across the lands. A small band of Demons managed to travel all the way to the Far East.

Mistaking the homeland for the Oriental as one of the hidden strongholds of the Dragon Knights, they started their wanton destruction on ¡Æthe free city of the East¡Ç. The Orientals managed to annihilates the invading Demons at the cost of reducing their territory to wasteland and resulted in heavy casualties where only a third of the population survived.

In order to survive, almost all books, art pieces and magic scrolls were abandoned in the course of fighting. After annihilating the demons, the Orientals chroniclers and their shrine maiden rewrite their history and religion. Although the dragon idols were there, their names were forgotten during their course of development and they were simplified to the ¡ÆHeaven and Earth¡Ç dragons.

333 - 500 YSD: Frenzy revamp for perfection
During this period, the Orientals are actively recruiting wise people from all their trading states to perfect their arts, skills and magic. Areas which were emphasized included ¡ÆForesight', the abilities the forecast the future, ¡Æsmithery', the abilities to improve their weapons and ¡Æscholar',  the abilities to improve the Orientals intellect.

While the Orientals are actively rebuilding their ruin lands, they never forgot their sole focus, which is to develop ¡ÆMagatama¡Ç, a lost catalyst that is believed to invoke the potential of the living creatures.

550 YSD: First sighting of the Kirin
After one and a half century of devout praying to ¡ÆHeaven and Earth¡Ç dragons for a guardian that will bring about fertility and prosperity to their land, a Kirin appears outside one of the shrines. Whether this is an incarnation of ¡ÆHeaven and Earth¡Ç dragons or a mere coincidence is still much debated.

This year also marked the birth year of Inami, a human.

580 - 650 YSD: Inami's Reign
Inami became the monarch of ¡Æthe free city of the East¡Ç in the late 500 YDS. During his reign, Magatama were being developed. Although the Magatama evokes the potential of the consumer, the side effects are too great on the consumer to render the Magatama as useless.

Under Inami¡Çs edict, most of the Magatama were buried. Ten years after Inami¡Çs edict, the soil where the Magatama were buried are extremely fertile. Living creatures eating plants that were grown on this soil had their potential invoked slightly.

680- 700 YSD: Death of the last Elves
The last of the Elvish Patriarch in the Council had died during 680 YSD. The last elf in ¡Æthe free city of the East¡Ç died in 700 YSD.

680 - 690 YSD: Schism between the Orientals
Without the eminent elvish Patriarch, the Orientals split into two groups.

Takashima believed that the Orientals should lead a way that focused on the perfection of weapons and animated beings. Unsatisfied with the failure to become the monarch, Rebels, lead by Takashima, kidnapped people who were apt in crafting weapons, animated beings and expert warfare tacticians. They moved westward and formed Takashima¡Çs empire there. Takashima actively developed his empire during his reign. His people were called the Orientals as well.

Fukari, one of the descendent of Inami, ascended to be the monarch for ¡Æthe free city of the East¡Ç. He strongly believed that the Orientals should remain at their roots and worship the ¡ÆHeaven and Earth¡Ç dragons. Instead of hunting Takashima and his rebels, Fukari sent gifts and offered a diplomatic relation with Takashima. Takashima readily agreed on Fukari¡Çs generosity.

TThe Modern Ages
800 YSD - 900: The reign of peace
Although Takashima and Fukari are both dead, they were remembered for their contributions for each of their empires by the commoners. During this time, it was peaceful for both empires.

A forecast was made that during the reign of both Fukari¡Çs and Takashima¡Çs grandsons will be the time where another difficulties lie for the Orientals.

Anticipation lies on the greatness for these two great leaders¡Ç direct descendents. Fukari¡Çs great grandson, Sooki, was born on 939 YSD. Takashima¡Çs great granddaughter, Mikana, was born on 925 YSD.

951- 960 YSD: 5th Eclipse: Ascending the throne
During the 5th eclipse, a large group of demon lords received special instructions to leave for the cities of the East to destroy these weaker human empires.

At the year 951 YSD, Mika ascended the throne for her Oriental empire. Sooki tricked Mikana to merging their empires as one when they were confronted by this horde of demon lords and their minions. Under Sooki¡Çs cunning command, ¡Æthe free city of the East¡Ç routed these demons with minimal troops lost.

Sooki rose to be the monarch of the unified empire on 960YSD, being the youngest monarch in history at the age of 21. Mikana had been the highest ranking war general, second position to Soki ever since the unification.

969 YSD: Aid of the Oriental¡Çs covert elites
From Sooki¡Çs seers of foresight, it was predicted that ancient evils were plotting of using the 6th eclipse to unlatch their twisted plans. Sooki sent three of his greatest people from his former empire, two Samurais and a Shrine Maiden, secretly to aid Catherine.

Looking like a solid team and I really enjoy your theme. The abilities also fit nicely with the actual mythology of the units. My concerns lie in the fact that a huge amount of your units are spellcasters, and that your only ranged unit is the upgraded doll (which I think was an awesome idea to include... the doll that is)  Anyways, thats just  my thoughts on it, but it looks great, and what i mentioned may not even really matter.  Good luck! You should check out the Asylum!!

Thank you for your compliment. I'm still thinking of ways to balance out the creatures but more or less will looks like this as a whole.

What I'm thinking of is a town that revolves around buffing instead of relying on your archery/brutes troops to play. It will involves more strategic play to bring out characteristic of the town instead of being a user-friendly one.

While the new 'arabic' tower seems to work well, there are people who really think that HoMM should not include East or mid-eastern themes while I think that new atmosphere for the game will be great. Looking forward to the appearance description. Nice, some pictures of the creatures will surely help and don't forget the racial special.

Thank you. Im currently bogged with school assignment which needs to be handed up at the end of next week and busy with Lunar New Year and stuffs.

I will revamp the history  as my current modified history looks very similar to the modern chinese history (which is very horrible in my opinion). If possible, I will try to add a short history of the creatures origins and pictures.

As for racial speciality and buildings, I have pen down the ideas. I will post updates up once I'm done with my assignment.

Hello Orbvious & good luck in your contest.

Lets start with creatures.

Creatures-7 I like the different variety of mythical creatures & imagination based in Oriental.
I think you balanced it out good.
One thang is I think a good town like haven etc should not need a creature to cast curse, especially when the Kirin fends off evil.
Maybe Bless would be a better spell for a good or nuetral town maybe a nuetral spell

Race-6 I think it's good they have a belief & spend time in pray.
Otherwise it is quite boring & I would not want to read any books on it.

History-9 I like how you evolved the oriental type heroes & creatures in a historic era.
I also like how they are involved with other town types like haven etc.
Makes the heroes of might & magic history of the town more real.

Balance-8 Balance with creatures is fair & interesting with tought out skills.
Other structures is fair & skills except for one skill.
Sagacity is not an important skill & can be cheap earning an extra skill. A crucial game can be that importan.

Hmmmm....

Creatures: 8, I like the Asian take on all of this.

Race: 5, not musch too say, sorry.

History: 9, it's nice how you made the history melt into everything else even though the city is seperated. Especially how you gave your town a reason to appear in HoMM 5.

Balance: 5, they seem too weak actually with only one ranged unit and no real spellcasters.

Originality: 9, vey nice. If the tower is Arabic I think it's cool to have an Asian town too.

Total: 36, good but not great.

Good luck!

Effort
I could hardly expect better. 9.5/10
History
Brief look suggests it's good; maybe a little too long ... 8/10
Creatures
Sorry but I'm against this sort of thing in Heroes in general terms. 3/10
Specials
Good. 8.5/10
Originality
Good. Not too keen overall though on the whole race.

33/50 (6/10)

Creatures:6(They dont fit the HoMM universe very well, but thats my idea ofcourse)
Balance:4(here you got serious problems, that %200 %100 more damage things realy killed the balance in my opinion)

Stuff to do with gaming: 35
-Creature lineup 9/10
-Mechanics 17/25

i like the idea of having a variety of creatures (8) to defend your town, plus they fit well with the mythology! (+1)

mechanics arent very well defined, but i like it that u have given them elements and the reciprocrate ability seems very fun to play around with..but a little lacking in versatility im afraid. (17)

mechanics are very important to me, how versatile your town can be played, espacially with the hero skills, it will also be included in mechanics. i LOVE to see stats, as i will be able to do calculations that will pretty much show me how much dmg a troop can deal, etc.

Stuff to do with history/story etc: 25points
-History 10/10
-How your creatures are being gathered into the town 10/10
-other additional stuff 3/5

Your history is very well laid out, very fitting into HoMM5 context also. Cant find fault (10)

Your creatures are well, mythological beings, and they fit into the context, perfectly. (10)

I didnt like your Kirins as level 7.. it was overly expected, knowing abit about Japanese mythology, i would venture to say that it fits into Lv7 as well as a dragon would, but its horribly boring. (3)

history and stuff, the usual. im an avid reader, so here my rating would be pretty strict.

Appeal: 15
-Appeal to female players 4/5
-General appeal 4/5
-Personal bias 2/5

Quite appealing to female players, i think; except for the Tengu, which in fact looks horrid. (4)

Generally pretty appealing. (4)

I think its sort of boring. (2)

im aware of homm5 going to be a sink or swim game, hence appeal plays a big part in my rating too. ive noticed not many female players play homm, due to not liking many towns, i would like the town to attract more female players too; both for the players and the money to save HoMM.

Originality: 20
-Based on how much cliche there is in storyline, how well your idea is portrayed, creature is new, abilities are new and basically about new stuff.

Based upon an existing mythology (not so good), i would prefer if u had venture more out, maybe perhaps rewriting certain creature's historical backgrounds and do away with the "Lv7 is a Dragon YAY!" thing that most town already have..but u have done a great job. History is very well made, very original. Mechanics a little lacking, they are the same old abilities mostly..doesnt seem like your town will be very versatile. (17)

it pays alot to be original.

Others: 5
-This includes other stuff i want to say 5

Nothing much to say. Good town, but a lacking in the mechanics. (4)

TOTAL: 78% (39/50)
