Cauldron's Keep

This is an RP open to anyone who wishes to join. However those who join will be expected to stay active. I'm tired of people dropping out. For the most part this RP isn't going to be planned. Glade has been missing that element for quite sometime now. Everyone plans things too much and doesn't keep and open mind and its restricting what we can do. So for this RP just make up whatever on the fly and make sure that you don't auto other peoples characters without their permission. Don't post your character descriptions. I'd rather get to know your character by reading your posts.

Your posts don't have to novels and would be better if they were shorter at least in the beginning. Just move the story forward through the eyes of your character. It will also be better if you do something without knowing how other people are going to respond. This forum hasn't been RPing for a long time. It's been novel writing. LHW used to work like an RP where no one knew what would happen next, but now we all know pretty much what is going to happen, and the posts are monstrous. That's novel writing. So now we're gonna do  no planning, everything spur of the moment. Of course once we get into this a bit more we can maybe start up an OOC thread to discuss a few ideas to make rough sketches of we might wanna do next.

Anyway here is the thread. If you wanna know where I'm going with this, then join the thread and post.

A tall man, standing about six feet, with a well trimmed beard took a sip of his ale and scribbled on a piece of parchment.

Quote:

Looking to hire adventurers willing to fight and travel to Cauldron's Keep as well as apprehending or killing wanted criminals. Payment will be from booty acquired along the journey. All booty will be split evenly amongst the group. All those interested, should approach the bartender and ask for Richard.

He glanced over it again and chewed on his upper lip. He blanked out the words Cauldron's Keep. Richard shrugged and got up from his chair. He picked up the piece of parchment and called for the bartender as he held up the paper pointing at it with his free hand. His answer was a nod and a point towards the board which hung up on the wall next to the main entrance. Richard pulled out one of the pins and stuck the parchment onto the mostly empty board.

A young ranger watches from the shadows as the paper is pinned to the board. He slowly makes his way over and begins to read. He glances over at the barkeep, before making his way over to him.

Stranger: Where is this Richard?

Richard watched the ranger carefully read over the parchment and approached the bar again after he saw the man approach the barkeep.

"Where can I find this Richard?" the ranger asked the bartender. The barkeep poured a pint of ale and turned around to respond to his question.

"He be standing right behind you, ranger."

The ranger turns his head and finds this Richard character behind him.

Stranger: So... what business do you have at Cauldrons Keep? I have heard many a tale about that place...

"Cauldrons Keep, you say." Said the old man sitting at the bench of the bar. He lifted his pint and emptied the last of it.

The mention of Cauldron Keep stirred something inside of him, and brought his attention to their conversation.

"I know of the place." He said. The man had a medium length grey beard and his face was gnarled, and his clothes plain and bordering on ragged.

Few knew that his face was roughed not from old age and poverty, but battle hardened from his travels.

"Yes. Cauldron's Keep you heard true," Richard said turning to the old man. He sat down at the bar and continued. "I've been there myself once before. Foolish I was to go in there so young having just grown my first beard. There be vast riches there for the taking, but there be dangers perhaps greater. Many of the stories you've heard are false. The real horrors, are too uncomfortable to bear be told out of jest. But so long as you keep your head and know of the dangers, you will be fine."

he had been watching this tall "richard" while he wrote his note. he had watched the ranger read it and enquire. he had heard the old man join in the conversation, at which he had heard most of.

he waited. it sounded like something that he would be interested in. but he was unsure whether he could venture back to Cauldron's Keep. he took another drink, and waited. maybe these men would be more succesful than his last group of friends were. he waited, his small ears open

"I have seen great warriors go into that place and never return. You were foolish to go near at all, let alone by yourself."

The old man looked at Richard, scrutinizing him.
His eyes were pupiless and pearly white all over, intriguing, which then turned back to his empty mug.

He lifted slightly the mug and slammed back on the bench, requesting more mead.

There was a strong presence in the corner, a powerful being, listening in to their conversation, that made him feel uneasy.

"I am Mark. What is your inquiry with this place, young man?"

"Well hello there, I am Daniel. But call me Dan."  Danierl looked up with his blue eyes "It sounds like you are going to travel to Cauldron's Keep. Let me tell you that Richard's words of the place are all too true. I know from personal experience myself."

Dan stood up, a full 4 feet of the ground, and made his way over to Richard. "Well, I live to adventure, so count me in"

"That's good to hear. Welcome Dan. I didn't expect to get such a quick response for this journey. I'd like to hear your stories of adventure. And mainly tell us what can you do to make sure everyone comes back of alive, of good health..." Richard paused. He glanced first at Dan and then gave a stern look into the eyes of Mark and the still anonymous ranger before continuing. "...and of sound mind?"

My name is Isildur, but i prefer to keep my origins to myself, for now at least. Do not bother to ask, for i do not like strangers prying into my past. I will tell you all you need to know as time goes on... I am skilled with the sword and bow, but i prefer unarmed combat as a way to disable an enemy rather than kill them.

And with that Isildur moves over to the bar and calls the barman over. He points to a circular bottle. The barman pours it on the rocks. Isildur drinks away from the group but continues to listen to the stories of others...

"My adventure stories? You must find some companions at present, and when time allows, my stories will be revealed. And of my skills? For now, lets say i have sufficient skill and experience in the art of herbalism to keep us in good health, and i can provide a hard slap when ones minds be not in their head." he slipped Richard a quick grin "However, if my more delicate arts are required, then we will deal with that when the time comes"

"The delicate arts are more of what I am interested in. It is the small things that will dictate where into the Keep we may safely venture. It is more often than not as you know, men die from the subtleties, than by the sword. I am sure all of us here can slice away at just about anything, but knowing when that when you enter a room a dozen arrows will be shot at you from random directions, it must be dealt with. Tell me can you disable a trap such as this or can you cast a spell which can deflect all of them away?" Richard ordered another pint of red ale.

"I need to know the slightest detail of what all of you are capable of doing. As we venture into the keep, the dangers are face-value there be monsters we must defeat or slip past undetected. Most groups of skilled fighters can make their way through them. In one section of the dungeon there lies an enchanted maze with no way through and many parties never find their way out. I know how to get through it. But behind the labyrinth lies a series of rooms that require certain skills to make it through. Being able to disarm a trap or being able to cast a levitation spell. Or being able to walk across an invisible twisting bridge where on the other side lie dozens of goblin archers. I know much about the various sections of the keep and if you tell me what you can do, it will help me choose which section we should enter."

Oh so thats the sort of stuff you want to know huh? Well being a ranger i have to catch my food quite often so setting up and detecting traps is something im fluent with. Disarming however, is simply a matter of how skilled the person who set the trap up is.

A strange, darkly cloaked figure stalks out of the shadows and approaches to where he can listen to a man named Richard talk to another named Isildur. Keeping his head low and the cloak pulled down he watches from a distance, but his exquisite hearing allows him to hear their whispers from quite a range away.

OOC: just so you folks know, when I talk it will be as such >> "talking blah blah happy joy".... aight?

The door opens and two figures enter. As they aproach the light it is clear who and what they are. One of them tall and proud, with red-brownish hair, a dark green cloak over his shoulders and a bow on the back and a slight elven look in the eyes. The other, it is clear, is what seems like a small wolf, all white with blue shinning eyes.
The tall figure eyes the room carefully and soon spots a table. They take their places at it. The elf seats him self and the wolf lies down quietly at his feet.
The elf takes out a small packege from his backpack, containing a large peice of cheese and some bread. He cuts off two peices from each, one he keeps for himself the other he gives to the wolf. Both of the sit there quietly just listening to the going ons in the room....

He took a sip of his new mead. Mark was wearing a ragged brown cloak, covering his head with a hood,

"Daniel." He nodded in acknowledgement. "I trust Richard has been there, the both of you seem quite.. experienced. However I have no intention of going there myself. An old man like me wouldn't last long there, I wouldn't think."

"You have attracted quite a crowd, Richard. I like you, you.... have a certain 'charm' about you. I trust you have come about these obstacles before, no? In word or in encounter, is it that you have walked these invisible bridges?"

Mark kept his eyes fixed on the mug, curling his gloved fingers around it.

"Fear not, I am not mad. But seeing as you can be fooled by simple illusion such as those you mention, I trust you have more to worry about than ill company. This maze you, however, seems more complex... interesting. I would like to learn more."

An elf and a small wolf-like creature enter the tavern and take a seat next to Mark.

"My stories would lack mostly in what you would describe as 'adventure', more along the lines of 'quest' or perhaps 'destiny', but it all adds up to the same thing at the end. When is it you leave for that.. place?

Sitting near he could hear what this company was talking about quest, adventures and treasurs. It does sound interesting, after the past few weeks. A nice change perhaps he should go for it. He looked at dear Robin down on the ground. He was always eager for adventure, eventhough he wasn't the tallest between dogs and hounds(only 55cm tall) he feared very little. Petting him and taking his eyes of of Robin he turned to the man sitting by him.

"Hello, my name is Annunhalion and this talk of adventure interests the both of us" He said looking at Robin. "Can I know of the details?"

"Thank you, Mark. If I can get enough people by the end of tonight, then tomorrow if everyone would be ready. But most likely the following morning." Richard turned and smiled at the newcomer as he introduced himself.

"Hello, my name is Annunhalion and this talk of adventure interests the both of us," he said looking at Robin. "Can I know of the details?"

"I am Richard," he said pointing to his chest, "and have posted a notice there that I am seeking adventurers to come with me to Cauldron's Keep. I seek people with a wide array of skills no matter how situational and obscure. I know much of the keep and how to get past many of the dangers unharmed."

As I listen to the people around the bulliten talk amongst each other I silently walk over to investigate. Quickly skimming the parchment a few questions pop into mind and I decide to ask aloud a few of the extremely minor ones.

???, "If you know the place so well, why do you need adventurers? I'd offer to join your little....'field trip'...but...I'd like to know what's in the place that you're going for."
