Glacis

The Glacis is an idea I pondered up when seeing Nival’s Russian contest for the first time. This was made in the period before the ICTC was announced, and it has been in limbo since then. As a judge, I cannot enter into this contest, and therefore there is no ICTC prefix. People who are working on the Barbarian/Ice Town might like to use things for ideas, as I’m not meant to help people directly. I doubt that my ideas will be of any great value to you, but, regardless of their merit, here they are.

Aka: The Runic Battle Oxes
Associated colors: Teal, Black, White
Worship: Sylath, Dragon of the Air
Core Philosophy: “We shall succeed; through might or magic.”
Country / kingdom: Runefall, the storm of snow
Capital city: High Rellium, the Glacial Fortress
Key symbols: The Ox, The Battle Axe

Overall description:

The Glacis is an amalgamation of dwarves, humans and ogres who all have a likeness for the cold. Despite being of three completely different races, they have assimilated and created a cohesive society skilled in the arts both martial and mystical. Dwarves are known for their metallurgical skills, ogres for their weapon-wielding ability, and the humans for a little of both. The Dwarves manufacture large axes and war machines for the Ogres to use in battle, the humans conjure up spells, and all are utilised efficiently on the field of combat.

The inhabitants wield large axes, and dressed flamboyantly in helmets adorned with horns, and ornate armour. Shields can be used, but not as regularly, as their gargantuan battle axes double as both. They often wear their hair long and their beards short. Their landscape, while not as (ant)arctic as others, is still situated well south of the equator, and they live amongst the tundra, snow, and occasional blizzard. At some times of the year, there is no snow, but this lasts only for 1-2 months, while the opposite 6 months snow storms fill the area, and the 2 months either side of that bring moderate conditions with average snowfall.

History:

I haven’t decided on a complete history yet, so here are a few events in their past

- They were competitive and indeed engaged in violent skirmishes with the Inferno
- Once dominated the Magi before they broke off and founded the Seven Cities.
- Kept, forged, and sold great artifacts, now known as relics among the other towns
- Their two most famous creations were the ‘Bull-Rune Battleaxe’ and the ‘Titan’s Gladius’
- They are opposed to the Academy
- Have a peaceful alliance with other, non-northern dwarves

Might Hero
Gladiator. Primary skills are highly oriented towards attack, an average amount towards defense, below average for knowledge and minimal for spell power.

Magic Hero
Metallurgist. Primary skills focus on spell power, followed by knowledge, attack and defense. Their magic is largely of the defensive variety, and it is focused on the body rather than the mind. Spells such as stoneskin, steelskin, land mines, mechanical-improvement spells and bloodlust are typical examples of their magic.

Creatures:

Level 1 (Shooter)
Centaur -> Centaur Captain

Level 2 (Walker)
Dwarf -> Battle Dwarf

Level 3 (Flyer)
Fury -> War Fury

Level 4 (Walker -> Walker/Spellcaster)
Ogre -> Ogre Mage

Level 5 (Flyer -> Flyer/Spellcaster)
Thunderbird -> Simurgh
(Simurgh is immune to mind spells, and can also cast some)

Level 6 (Shooter)
Cyclops -> Triclops
(The Triclops also hurls rocks, but before it reaches the enemy, it fires its 3 eye-beams at it to split the rock into 4 parts, hitting a maximum area of 2x2.

Level 7 (Walker)
Yeti -> Behemoth

As you can tell, many things have not been completed, such as creature abilities, racial specialties, much of the history, and some other elements. You can comment if you’d like to, but this is more for other contestants.

____________
"Dragons may breathe fire, but Hydras have many heads." - The Creed of Hydras
"As the Dragon drew its breath, the Hydra pounced, swiftly but powerfully, and the Dragon was defeated.”

Thanks Hydra for posting this town but I fear that you are a little late,because most of the contestors have created the main concept of their town and now it is too late to change it all(or they are just lazy as me .
