Best? The Wolf Raider. He has the double attack and if you get many of them, they'll be a reasonable threat.

Damn straight about wolf raiders, seriously, crag hack, defending town with the grail inside, waste retaliation on the enemy unit with orcs or something, then send in the wolf raiders to attack them, if you get luck, luck, morale, luck luck, then holy cow.

4.Harpy hags
5.Wolf Raiders
6.Obisidian Gargoyles
7.Magogs
8.Battle dwarfs

Because you edited them in ;P

I don't see why Lizard Warriors are so high... over Harpy Hags AND Wolf Raiders AND Obsidian Gargoyles? And Magogs over Battle Dwarves... Your list seems to highly favor ranged attackers

I saw that i fogot harpy hags the moment after i posted my list.

And when i put this list together i was mostly thinking of one on one battle between the creatures. And since range units mostly gets to damage first they have a good chance to win the battle.

The advantage of ranged creatures does not appear in 1 vs. 1 battles.

In 1 vs. 1 (100 units, vs. 100 units), speed is, mostly, the dominant factor. Storm elements are obviously the strongest second level unit, because they basicly have high tier level 3 unit stats.

Harpy Hags are really strong in 1 vs. 1, however you need to split them up in 94/1/1/1/1/1/1 against ranged units, otherwise the return flight will be your own doom.

Wolf Raiders are as well really strong, though they're more offensive than defensive. Did you know that 100 wolf raiders beats 100 orc chieftans, despite wolf raiders are the level 2 unit from the same town, which orc chieftans are the level 3 unit?

The Obisidian Gargoyle will usually come next in term of 1 vs. 1 power. It has the speed and the ability to fly, meaning it can defeat any of the ranged units below, while it still loses to the creatures mentioned before, it wins every other battle (against battle dwarf, the "trick" is to apply wait).

The rest in regard to 1 vs. 1 power should be obvious:
Marksman
Lizard Warrior
Magog
Battle Dwarf
Zombie

These are not just subjective opinions, but opinions based on tests. Though the tests may be biased, I can't say.

Now regarding the actual use of the units. I think, e.g. the obesidian gargoyle and the zombies are the worst. I at least seldomly buy zombies and I only use obesidian gargoyles for extra hero movement on poor maps. Regarding battle dwarfs, I really like that they've native resistance, but that's all I like about them, though.

The harpy hag, and the wolf raider have both their uses and I think they're great units, though I seldom get to upgrade harpy nest before I have red dragons.

Finally, I think the ranged units are the best units for in-game purposes. Why? Because low level units are generally rather weak both offensively and defensively compared to their weekly growth. It means a strong defensive low tier unit is not of much use, a strong offensive one is a one-time use, if it gets counter-attacked. Ranged units usually won't get counter attacked, which means they can do their "thing", i.e. apply free damage throughout most of the battle, or force your opponent into a premature attack.

Newb here bringing some more controversy!

I would rank them like this:

1. Harpy Hag
2. Marksmen
3. Lizard Warrior
4. Gog
5. Wolf Raider
6. Battle Dwarf
7. Obs. Gargoyle
8. Zombie

Not ranking the Air Elemental, since it's essentially a lvl 3 LOL. Obviously if I did it would be the top.

Why are the strong Wolf Raiders below the mediocre Lizards and Gogs? Expansion, mostly. To me, early game battles are the key factor to take into account with lvl 2s; because they probably won't be deciding any final battles, it's best to instead look at what kind of early advantage you can seize with them.

I like anything that attacks long-distance (this include Harpy Hags). I've found on more than one occasion that Lizards with a few Gnolls for protection can clear out your starting area pretty easily. Halberds and Marksmen even more so. Gogs come after them because their upgrade sucks (also Imps are NEARLY as good as Gnolls or Halberds for protection - or anything else - but I'm not sure if that counts).

Wolf Raiders are fantastic, and are actually my personal favourite lvl 2, but they die far too easily. If you use them heavily in expanding, you'll have a big gap in your army later on.

Dwarves aren't bad, but they're too slow to be anything interesting. I've never had any positive experiences with Gargoyles. I don't think Zombies even need to be mentioned.

The main issue with wolf raiders is the retaliation in between their double attack. Whilst the crusader can take the beating and grand elves/marksmen have range, the wolf is squishy and suffers serious losses if you don't take the retaliation with other stacks.

They are still my favorite lvl2, but without ressurection and external dwellings, it's hard to keep up a stack that is large enough to really have fun with...

Since RoE, where, if I'm not mistaken, it was a lvl 3 unit, and I don't believe they altered it at all for Conflux.

IIRC, Air and Water elementals were lvl 3, and Fire and Earth elementals were level 4 (which is why Earth/Magmas, conversely, are absolutely awful for their level).

I could be wrong, though.

Either way, it's so absurdly powerful compared to the rest of lvl 2s that there doesn't seem much point in ranking it anyway.

only problem with storm / air elementals is:

* curse makes them only do 2dmg as dmg range is 2 to 8.
* you can decimate them pretty easily with high power lightning spells

still probably the best lvl 2 though. they are outstanding to get early in the game.  with bless they are deadly. great for fighting wandering creatures.

one potential strategy i just thought of to reduce the impact of lightning spells on storm elementals...

before going into a fight, if possible, add a stack of just a few storm ele. and put all the others in a separate larger stack.    use the small stack to cast protection from air on the large stack lol.  not sure how much this would help, but just an idea.  has anyone tried this?

Wolf Raider cause they are useful in the mid game unlike marksmen that get focused by the AI all the time.

Of all the tiers, the second level is perhaps the easiest one of all. Air/Storm Elementals beat every other level 2 creature hands down. With high HP, good damage and reasonable speed, they truly are the strongest level 2 creature.

1. Storm Elemental
2. Harpy Hag - not strong, but no retaliation/swoop can be annoying
3. Marksman - two shots are nice
4. Lizard Warrior - not good on offence, but SoD buffed them up nicely
5. Obsidian Gargoyle - they're fast, and that's what counts
6. Battle Dwarf - Tough, but slow
7. Wolf Raider - Two shots and quick, but too flimsy
8. Magog - Fireball attack does more harm than good
9. Zombie - no need to explain why

Storm elementals are the best shooters, but the best melee creatures are wolf raiders imo.

off-topic but then again...

Likewise, your map editor reveals interesting facts as well. Let's say you are creating a map and decide to place a stack of Lv2 creatures down to guard a mine or treasure chest. The base variable of creatures that you might see are as follows:

1. All Lv2 creatures random generation = 16-25/stack(without growth or customized adjustments)

2. Storm Elementals = 6-12(without growth or customized adjustments)

3. Rogues/Boar = 16-30(without growth or customized adjustments)

As you can clearly see, the game considers Storm Elementals to be the strongest because they are only allowed to randomly appear in half the size of normal Lv2's.

Hi all, I know this doesn't really belong here BUT this is the only thread I found, that contains (some of the) information I am looking for:

Is there a list with "creatures random generation" ranges? (As given above for 3 lev2 creatures)
It used to be possible to right-click a given creature and get this info as "help". I haven't been able to do this for... years.
Any idea? Anyone?

Edith says:
The best creature is always the creature that you HAVE
and, as stated above, it always depends on the setting.
Harps can do a lot of fights that won't be possible early on (zombielock...)for others and thereby could possibly make you much faster/better than your opponent which might give you the edge even if they are less than useless in the endfight itself. The same goes for Marksmen.
Battledwarves on the other hand are useless against the map but possibly the "last men standing" in such a confrontation.

And yes, of course stormelementals are the best (having said there is no "best" this might appear contradictory) BUT they are no lev2 creatures - shooters with more hp than most lev 3 creatures and ridiculous speed... but this has already been mentioned above so...

i see alot of ppl here value harpy hags very high i am not sure they are that good cuz

1st-dungeon plays with shakty most of the time so harpyes are not that important and thier number is very low when game starts
2nd-dungeon has POS and when they see harpy dwell furst 1/2 turns they usually dont take it asap cuz of better options with lvl 5-6-7 dwellings

so i think harpyes are used most of the time for hero speed/scout speed

and heres my tier 2 units rating

1st-air elemental , just way 2 strong even in small numbers if u have bless
2nd-marksmen i put them in 2nd place cuz if its not some very rich map castle will allmost allways relly on marksmens for its early game
3rd-lizardman warrior/wolfrider

4-gogs/harpyes

5-dwarfs/gargs

6-zombie
