Ok, deads have some extremely limited usages. Nothing worth talking about. Everyone can figure that if you need a stack that can take some beating they will do the job.

If i remember correctly units with higher speed act before the slower units.

They do not have 50% more health. Also why should i care about their defense and hitpoints - they are not supposed to get hit anyway...

Since when Lizard Warriors have 20 HP ? And if they get hit , then you have screwed your battle.

Yeah , sure. I always aim to take retal with the slowest unit in my army. And how many dwarves/walking dead do you have ? 100 ? You got may be 20 which are usually gone in the first 2-3 turns. This is when they are useful.Later you do not really need them until the final battle or possibly some bad block. And in final batlle you cannot always afford to purchase all troops which leaves dwarves often unbought.

U must be joking.In the elven campaign when the enemy had more creature then me,those dwarven help me a lot.Every week i recruited centaurs,dwarves and archers.After some time i had 300-400 centaurs,200 dwarves,and with haste spell,god they have good defence,good atack and magic resitance.Or using teleport to put dwarvs near them.Belive me,all lvl 2 creatures if u recruit it regulary,in time will be a many and this will help.Let's think a litle,even we have 1k peasent,we said bah,they are weaks,but if u succed to hit one time with 1000 peasent,if a peasent do 1 dmg,1k will do 1k dmg.Well,dont u think that will help?

Pal, with Rampart you don't go for the enemy. You can't enter combat with Dwarves and Dendroids early, and you don't want to face the enemy with only 75% of your HPs. In the ranged departament, you are usually in advantage (except for the Tower), so he must come, not you.

Let's see what some veterans think about the dwarves:

"DWARVES/BATTLE DWARVES

A sturdy unit with solid Hit Points cranked out in sufficient numbers with a Magic Resistance special of 20 and 40%, respectively. With the horde building a fully producing Rampart delivers 20 Battle Dwarves per week or 400 Hit Points. In time this will add up to an impressive number of them, and while they are not the most dangerous unit damage-wise a big stack of Battle Dwarves is a great unit to eat up retaliations. On the other hand Dwarves and Battle Dwarves won't play any role in the initial days of a scenario. The Dwarves would slow your hero down and that's not what you want. So leave all Dwarves at home that come with your heroes. Grade them up after the Centaurs and buy them as Battle Dwarves only.

Let's see, how sturdy them Dwarves really are. 60 Dwarves led by a Ranger face 54 Wolf Raiders led by a Battle Mage. The Attack/Defense differential will probably be around 0. Wolf Raiders are faster, so they wait the Dwarves out and then attack. Their first hit does 162-216 damage killing 9 Dwarves on average. Assuming an Attack/Defense differential of +2, the remaining 51 Battle Dwarves retaliate for 112-224 damage, killing 16 Wolf Raiders on average. Now the remaining 38 Wolf Raiders hit again for 114-152 damage, killing another 7 Dwarves on average. So after the first Wolf Raiders attack we have 44 Battle Dwarves facing 38 Wolf Raiders which is not nearly good enough for the Wolf Raiders.

Using the Dwarves as kamikaze stack you decide to attack a stack of 14 Wyvern Monarchs with your stack of 90 Battle Dwarves. The unmodified A/D differential is -7 and since the opposing Beastmaster will have a higher Defense Value than you have an Attack Value, let's assume an A/D differential of -10. 90 Battle Dwarves will do a modified damage of 135-270 damage, killing just short of 3 WMs on average which is not very impressive. On the other hand you just want to eat up retaliation for attacks with other units of yours, so the interesting question is, how many Dwarves will you lose? The A/D differential is +7 for the Wyvern Monarchs, but this will reduce because of the high Defense value of your heroes compared to the lower Attack value of the opponent, say to +4. 12 Wyvern Monarchs will do a modified damage of 239-316, killing 13 Battle Dwarves on average or around 1 per Wyvern Monarch. Not a substantial loss.

Because of their sturdyness Battle Dwarves would make great guards for the Elves, but as we will see, Dwarves and Dendroids won't always do as guards for the Elves in later stages of the game (neither speed nor hex wise), so you may use at least either Dwarves or Dendroids in other ways."

Then you will see what i am talking about.

And no , i do not have gold to buy out dwarves and dendroids. Rampart is all about cents, elf and unicorns. It is that simple.
In endgame you just add everything else you have.

My favourite 2nd level would be marksmen. It is just beautyful watching thous guys slashing early game map creatures. Shooting twice make incredible difference. Their problem is vulnerability, they are most targeted castle creature, but having that awesome AA's ressurection helps a great deal!

Clearly Storm Elements. They have the best ratings for a 2 lvl creature and they can easily beat a grand elf or an evil eye from range and posibly close range as well.

Storm Elements, these guys are mid to high 3rd level units, the first unit, iIRC, that actually out powers them in the level 3 tier is the ice element. Though clearly overpowered by Dragonflies, Cerburi, Royal Griffins and maybe some I don't remember.
