I have no idea why I chose my avatar. I guess I like being a below average level 6 wannabe dragon.
Actually I just like how it looks, I didn't put alot of deep thought into it to be honest.

Verleriy
My Lord, it says: You are not one, but element and medium, allowing the wing to ascend. The heart and blood that animate these limbs. It says: You are an illusion, mastering illusions. It says: Your rule gives shelter and rewards the valiant. And finally: Yet you are one, and cross the worlds at wish.

I am quite receptive for the charms of the current system: Though it maintains a real live element to HC that probably could be avoided, namely that you cannot lay down what you were, that some decisions are final and you generally cannot reload. That you can break the irreversibility of time is some of the joys of computer gaming and so one tends to claim that instinctively. But when I thought about creating a second identity, I realized that you are actually right that it is part of the fun that you remain one. Multiple identities in the same world can be such a burden.

(Btw. Reading myself through this forum is really most enjoyable. I'm in awe of your work.)

Legendary Entrance / When The Masks Came Off

Waitress, I'll have a pint of blonde with a manly dose of peach syrup, please !
And I'll also buy all those fellows over here a drink, while I'm at it.
Might as well celebrate nicely my first ever visit at this friendly tavern...

Hey to those I already know (namely Tigris, lord_crusader and Valeriy). To the others, nice to meet you.

Hi Loknar and congrats for the fine thread you started here. Sounds very much like a roleplay-tinged version of "truth or dare" or any number of "masks off" similar games to me.

Cheers to all !

Okay I'll add my 2 cents :

1st Cent) LOKNAR'S AVATAR STORY

Since you asked everyone a question and proceeded to answer it for them when they wouldn't... Without giving even the slighest hint of what your answer could be... I think it's only fair that somebody else does it for you !

Your avatar is the portrait of Homm4's Mezizto, a human necromancer who seeks immortality through the use of black magic, but not at the price of his human beauty (contrary to the vast majority of his necro mates who don't really mind the gross undead traits as long as they also get power).

The brown robe and this trademark "cut with a bowl" hairstyle are a combination undoubtedly assiocated with the figure of the middle-age priest. Like the ones you can find in "The Name Of The Rose", "Joan Of Arc" or any movie about the Inquisition. Dogma, Discipline and Devotion are values that come to mind when evoking this figure.

Furthermore, there is a fairly dark and distant feel to this particular portrait. The grey tone of his skin (don't get me wrong, here!), the large shadows that almost completely hide his eyes from us, the fact that he turns his head to the right while looking at the left... Not to mention those serious wrinkling eyebrows !

All this suggests he watches silently, secretly. Hidden in the dark. He looks serious, preoccuppied, uncomfortable, maybe even worried. Sounds a bit cliché, but "insecure" comes to mind ! Lol

My guess, judging by your choice of avatar, is that you are a guy with a strong sense of self-discipline, who aims high intellectually, who thinks and analyses a lot of things. People, first and foremost.
But you might be reluctant to reveal yourself to others.

"He who watches", to sum it up. A type of character I tend to know quite a lot about. Guess why ? Rofl

2nd Cent) THE LEGEND'S AVATAR

The whole story of my registering at HC can be read (or re-read for some of you) here. Here are some extracts pertaining to my choice of avatar :
Quote:
I wanted an avatar related to Homm3's Dungeon Town type, because it's my favorite town type of that game. Guess what ? I ended up with the unupgraded lvl 1 unit (the trogg), cause it seemed to be the only Dungeon-related avatar still available ! Lmao !
Quote:
About my reserving a custom avatar, it's unfortunately a bit early for that. I'll be allowed to do so only once I'd reached the 50 posts cap. My posts count is still below the 20 posts cap, atm ! I do favor quality over quantity, though. LOL
Quote:
It's ok, my initial compassion for those ugly troggs is slowly turning into some kind of sympathy... LMAO
So, tell me... What'll you make of that, Sigmund ?

Ah, my beer at last ! About time, Waitress ! What kept you ?

Cheers. Legend.

Cheers to you, and thanks for the two generous cents

I haven't much experience with posting in forums. The more posts I read from a poster, the less important the avatar seems to get, but still, I can't help adding the avatar to what is said. Often, it just doesn't fit, but sometimes it does so strikingly. When you register, you choose a face from a list that sticks to you afterwards. And since I suffer from irresoluteness (surprise!), the choice was well felt. Like you said, there are also possible choices you can't make, so you end up with an avatar that is a mix of things you relate to in different ways and some things you don't relate to at all. So my thread was about the stories of how you chose your avatar and in what way you relate to what of it. But it didn't work, for one because I posted it in the wrong forum (and I was really clumsy at dealing with this, but that's another story). And perhaps it was just a bad idea or something few people care to talk about.

Loknars avatar story (update)

The story is: Since I didn't hope for any of the creatures I liked to be available (like the Naga Queen or the Efreet Sultan), I only chose a picture, and one I thought not too popular. (Yes, I also like to be special, but you've guessed that.) Heroes in H4 have not much individuality, I haven't played H4 for quite some time, and I generally don't bother too much about storylines in HoMM. I'm not even particularly fond of Necromancers (in H3 just amongst others), so neither the character's story nor the faction were concerns. (Seeking immortality, but not at the price of beauty sounds not too bad though, so I would have taken it.) I pretty much agree with what you say about the Mezizto avatar (though you didn't refer primarily to that.) I chose it exactly for the "distant" feel and the thoughtful attitude, and the mysterious tattoo (your grey skin) attracted me. Moreover his face has a slight resemblance to mine, but I wasn't really aware when I chose. (Now, that is meaningful, isn't it!) I disliked it's looking into the wrong direction, but most of the Heroes seem to (I guess they're made for the right side of the screen). The contrast between the character and the black background is also not optimal. But as you said about your sympathy for the trogs, this is changing. And as for the diagnosis: Yes, I like thinking in general and particularly about people and why they do what they do. Sadly, my self-discipline is not quite as developed as you assume, so I might have chosen this avatar for that reason. (To give myself a priestly treat.) I'll do you a favour and think about it. (Btw I thought it kind of "impolite" to start the thread with my own story.)

LegendMakers avatar

I was searching for some thread on the avatars, but have missed this one. If there is no choice, there is no meaning, so I would conclude that you love playing dungeon. I have an idea what Sigmund would make out of trogs, though.

And finally, as I said:
Quote:
But I don't think the avatar and/or nickname tells all.

That is certainly something Sigmund would approve of. And he wouldn't say it tells nothing either. Psychology is really thrilling me. I hope there's nothing wrong with that, and yes, of course, it starts all with observing and reading. I like to observe, too.

So, again, Cheers to you

my (new) avatar...

whether its keeping Mithbar in balance, hunting with the Pack, visiting the Forgotten Realms, leading the armies of Rampart and Preserve or walking in the Emerald Dream with shan'do Stormrage, Lith is one thing only... a Druid ...and even though a hooded cloak is what he usually wears, the stag pelt comes really close to his ceremonial clothes... the Druid of the Sylvan was a natural (and quite easy) choice ...especially since i burned my right to a custom avatar long ago

I can't remember why I chose mine. Probably because I liked the Conflux at the time, and probably too lazy to find the HoMM3 Aeris avatar.

Hehehe . . .

This thread makes me want to create a second account for the sole purpose of having fun in the Heroes Community way. If I did make a 2nd acct, I would definitely make it completely fictional; the exact opposite of my account now. I would spend a lot of time writing up an entire personal page of make-believe information to support the avatar.

For example, if I chose a wizard then I'd write up a large history of his magical origins, great mystical spells, closest renown colleagues, King to whom he currently serves, etceteras . . . The same would apply to all the other types of avatars ranging from barbaric ogres to foliage-loving beast masters. Knights, elemental beings, and demonic scourges would all be very fun to monologue as well.

Honestly, TNT_Addict, I'll explain: The angel is asexual in its nature and the H5 angel expresses this concept - falsly, I think- by attributing to it a androgenuity, which in turn is by some other people - again falsly - attributed to homosexuality. But be assured, nobody means any harm.
