In that pic  +1 speed didnt matter much,they would still do same...Just checked what you told me(stack them) its the same thing,uless you have 7 stacks of gremlins and 1,2,3 stack of H.As long as you have corresponding numbers as 280:320(as growth shows) outcome will depend on ones tactic.That proved that H are a lot stronger then MG but still its all about way you play.You cant really compare shooter and meele attacker same way.

1.CC
2.Sprite
3.Halb.

Let's look at this from a different point of view: you start a game with tower and have 320 MG. 280 halberds guard that gold mine. Will you attack or not?

Now start again with castle and attack 320 MG with your 280 halberds. As the gremlins will be in several stacks you will win without doubt, but now compare the casualties with previous game.

So, which you prefer now?


From other point of view I would prefer any day or night to have halberds instead of MG if the gold mine is guarded by elves/marksmans/medusas.

There is no better monster in this game. Each one its purpose.

Ofcourse thats why its hard to tell between shooter and meele and others they are weaker and less usefull in late game since they die fast but the are good starters.

Ex: i am running with only 320 GM and see a gold mine which says  Swarm of H(we know its 280),so i divide my GM into 7 stacks,6 ones and rest and put the biggest stack on top,when game starts i see 4 stacks of 55 H and 1 of 60(equals 280).Then as i cover up my main stack with others i wait with main and then attack H with full arrow(i got lucky with dmg and killed all 55)so then there are 4 stacks left next time i shot only 22/55 were killed(unlucky with dmg) and on it goes as they get to stacks they kill them all and and there are about 2x more gremlins then H,anywayz H win because GM are shooters and not a meele creature.Same as backwards even easier if you are playing comp since he rarely will cover stacks and 5 stacks of GM with equal ammount will not leave long without protection.

Well, no.

The best tactic is not to cover your gremlins with the 6 ones but to lure the Halberds enough away to have full arrow but not be reach. If you wait with all gremlins grouped you will be creamed.

I just did the test to please you and I lost 33 MG to 4 Halberds groups while I lost 122 halberds to 320 MG on neutral terrain both. I splitted Halberds in 4 stacks but their 5 speed creamed me. MG got 3 free shoots each before I could reach them.

Results: 33 MG dead vs 122 halberds. In this example the MG are clearly much better than Halberds.

See you split GM into so many stacks but you try to make H a few so you would hold them more and shoot them down,now try to do same: your main and 6 others by 1(or what you want) then i just split mine into 10,10,10,210,10,10,10(or similar) then just wait with main stack and as GM go into middle you come closer(you cant rich them round 1,but main GM stack doesnt have full arrow)so GM main stack has choice of killing 10 H or shooting at 210(and killing about 20)next turn most of your GM(in middle) are killed and your main stack is still unalbe to shoot H with straight arrow.SO H main stay in that posion with half arrow till about 2-3 of you 10 stacks get there and once they do GM cant shoot anymore and you are screwed,so u kill 10 and in 2-3 turns you are about to die.
Just try balancing the forces some more,not like 7 stacks vs  4 stacks.

I don't know how you do your tests but if you let 320 MG shoot half arrow 8 times before moving, I can tell you that you are dead.

I dont care who will win as long as i see how...your way or my way they still lost and isnt that the way you wanted them?middle?I did same as you played vs AI as both sides and still H won.Even try to quick combat ,they will still win,no matter what.

This board is as boring as it used to be 3 years ago, a handful of posters who know their snow, and a gazillion of newbies who post funny stuff (until they start arguing). ^^

But ok...you asked me how i play...no i dont play the comp (only if i really have nothing bettet to do).
I know that having many heroes early is good, i take of slow troops from my main at the end of the day (yes i use one main hero, not 5), i build creatures first to kill stuff early and explore fast (and not a city hall), i know that some people like hit and run and some dont (i bet you didnt expect me to say that!) :-P

And no i wonīt play you, because killing newbies is a waste of time, and H3 is too old for that now sorry :-P

There is certainly a way to planify your splits and have Halberds win that battle. But what I try to say you from the beggining was already specified in a previous post: with a bunch of MG in your army you can defeat their double in number halberds with only 6 casualties. The reverse is not possible. That's why each monster has its strength and purpose, and can't be for sure "the best".

Take a look at rampart early expansion: those grand elves allow a bright expansion, even in small numbers because they shoot strong and are fast also. But in a final battle they will not last long or be decisive. It is same with MG, if in high numbers they are definitely more valuable than halberds for fast expansion. Because halberds will suffer losses at each battle you do, while MG, if played WELL, no.

I play every night (with exceptions) i play ppl who've been around for 10 years or more, MGs are what i would like to call 'Best'. Overall. As a whole. In terms of + and - . They shoot. They trow this ... Olympic sports have it... cannonball thingy. whatever - point is... they are cool, they are like little blue robed green killing machine that shoots - duuuh

Any player who played computer will do that.If you call yourself expert never heard about you nor in GS or other... I have played people who would kick your ass in 5 min(lost,but at leat played,what you are saying that you dont want to play someone because they are noob,that just ones again proves that you are afraid to play them.And whats up with using smilies 5 times in each post?

Even if you consider GM as better then H,then take Sprites and CCs,they will get to them on 2nd turn and they win.GM surely arent the best.What makes them better is they are shooters and they go good against low speed.

Gamespy lol...i was ranked high in TOH 5 or 6 years ago, donīt remember, i played with/against guys like Rychenroller, Archdevil666, Midnight, Flamingo, JB239 or Antal...SORRY if i donīt get too excited by a wannabe-hero who thinks he knows something about this game.
And no this is not the handle i used anywhere, i dont judge people by names...the crap you write is enough to tell me that you know nothing.

Except for fact that GM are best that tells a lot about you and that you prob get the game going tooo late when opponent is having same numbers of lvl7.And pls dont tell me you were best player 10 yrs ago and now you dont have Heroes installed and are arguing over nonsense.

Calm down, people. The thread turned into a personal fight and it should not.

I saw same players win over years with inferno, tower, castle, fortress. There are not "best" creatures but different situations to handle with skill and game intelligence.

An early haste spell can turn those fragile  imps into deadly assassins, while an early "slow" spell can give you 10-20 levels on first week with those ridiculous sprites. High morale on grand elves can kill those overrated centaurs captains like nothing while low morale can stuck your precious archers and kiss the dust with them when fighting some underrated goblins.

Any good player knows that in early game the gold from chests is decisive. But sometimes a chest if changed in experience can make you a god (i.e you had advanced slow). There is no schema for playing, but individual decisions to take and handle.


Over all, if you get experienced enough, you will have the ability to kill halberds with MG and MG with halberds. You will make use of every single creature you handle and turn it into a deadly machine. Does not matter how much HP or speed it has, if there is nobody more to retaliate against.

And IMO, Centaur, MG and sprites are the only three lv1 stacks u can use to clear lightly guarded early mines without heavy casulties. Centaur against any low level stacks. MG and sprites against slow walkers.

Skele and imp are only good in hordes from necromancy and week of imps(Inferno grail). But since grail is usually not allowed in many games especially multiplayer games, so.....

Gremlin sucks?? I hope you mean non-upgraded gremlins. Because master gremlins are the only shooters of first level so they can cause a big damage to enemies before they die. But for me, the best 1st level unit is Captain Centaur. HP is the same as Halbardier but Centaur is faster and that is its power.
