a new beginning.

today is the day !
Heroes V Open Beta

hopes:
1. fully open (no restrictions regarding the number of participants)
2. fully functional
3. map editor on - no matter the number of maps, mapmakers reporting for duty
4. lan/internet MP.
5. good connection to download it , estimated  file size around 700-800MBytes , no waiting in line, expect to be redirected to a major hosting site for download, site that u've already known very well.At least h4-ers
6. ENOUGH free time to experiment it

well, it's just a reminder, i guess all the fans are already informed about events course, features and some other stuff related to upcoming title.
I thought it would be good to bring the subject in here, even if heroes V has a dedicated forum, but its in all our interest as heroes community.

See you in game, i only wanted to mention that I'm ready

have a nice day

well, guys , i gave it a shot yesterday in a very pleasant company , and i can tell u one thing, looks very promising, it is on development still, some features are not enabled, some have been intentionally changed  to not reveil the final look, of course, but with the configuration that meets the recommended requirements, its very enjoyable even now (the duel thing it's very helpful to accomodate with new spells, creatures abilities, behaviour, etc..)

known and unknown issues, yes, it is still beta, new maps? well, it requires a bit of patience . good thing chat it's working , from time to time of course

have a nice day

Looks promising

Alot of people are complaining about disconnects and inability to start games. Had 1 disconnect so far, after 3-4 weeks (5 hours+) of playing. Tried a game with teach and kolia and that worked aswell

Needs a good graphic card, was a bit laggy and spikey the first time I played it, but after installing the latest drivers it worked well on maximum settings.

I think most of the disconnects are due to people not opening the ports needed. (Most don't even know what ports are, heh.. but us h4'ers sure know Gayspy ftw!)

Other than that, the ubi.com servers were a bit unstable on Tuesday (but they were working fine Wednesday) We'll see how it works out.

Can't comment much on balance, since I've barely tried the game..

Basics..
Takes a looong time to build up the town. Can't get lvl 7 creatures until end week2 /start week3 I think(?). Hero abilities make up for the low amount of spells (only ~40).

As teach said, atleast the chat works (sometimes)
And daym,.. someone sure loves Nature/Preserve over at Nival/ubi

Hi folks.

I've been playing without much trouble at all the past few days. Biggest problem I've had is finding people who actually stick around more than a few turns. But I have finished a couple games and I think the game will be a lot of fun. It seems very likely to be at least as popular as HoMM3 was. It seems to me that most of the complaining is because people think the beta means a fully functioning game. I did have one lockup and one game I had some trouble with lag but I think that was more because the guy I was playing was out in BFE somewhere.

You all probably know or have heard already but apparently there is a way to activate the single player and hotseat functions. I don't have the link but it is on the game forum. I haven't tried it yet cause I found out late last night but in case anyone didn't know about it I thought I'd mention it.

Anyway, can't wait to get the finished product and hope to see some familar faces. Take care.

Yeah as has happened to so many others I had a woman around so I kinda slacked off and didn't get back to playing HoMM3 again. I plan to be as active as ever when 5 hits the shelves though. So far I'm having a blast with it both online and playing myself hotseat. (Damn now I know I have it bad... I'm masterbating with Heroes! LMAO) How are things over your way? Hope everything is going well. Maybe we should get together and play a game of 5 hotseat huh? hehe Take care

I'm in Phoenix now (or wait a minute.. I forget, did you visit the hotseat thing I did in Phoenix or Philly? -- dont remember).  I've been playing homm4 mostly, though yes, was active in the homm5 betatest circle.  Most important about homm5 is to know the intricacies of the gameplay, to prepare the automation for the varies ways of reporting the games, and setting up things again like clans, divisions, etc..  The active tournament membership will probably quadruple from the homm3 days, because of its tremendous potential popularity.

I was at the one you did in Philly however I live in LA now. I also have a 4 day work week so that makes AZ trips possible. Is there a lot for you still to do to get ready?

One thing I've noticed about HoMM5 is that turns seem to take a lot longer than HoMM3 no matter how fast you play. Part of that is a slight lag when swapping screens and hero movement. Maybe it's just my imagination and I'm not remembering properly. If not hopefully the tweaks before launch will speed things up.

The homm5 game turns ARE a big issue; each turn takes even longer now; and gets even longer on machines with slower cpu's etc... so that is truly the big hurdle here, and hopefully it will not turn people off the online multi side.

Unfortunatley that was a big problem & the reason alot left Rob.
BUT also the reason was because of an incomplete game that no one really liked was another reason.
No offense to heroes 4 players of course
