Yes, Rampart Treasury is imbalanced vs AI, no doubt about that

if the map has a lot of towns but no rampart and very few goldmines i think u cant be too wealthy, since most towns are at least until the hole building stuff procedure a moneyhole and you can only build one capitol.

It's true that the troop cost of towns is higher than town income, but ignoring that some troops are more worthwhile to buy than others, the moment where the map itself doesn't provide you with enough income to maintain maximum army, only limited by unit growth, is long after the game has finished. Maybe for an XXL map without DD/Fly, it could work, despite there being more money structures on such a map, without the easy move spells, 8 heroes might not cut it for proper chaining, which can make the quoted scenario come true.

I remember when I was younger I played the game with a friend and we agreed to postpone the battles as much as possible for very large armies. The in-game time could be several months, and the map wasn't even close to be drained (though we didn't use the maximum number of heroes either).

In order of how how good have the experiences been with these guys:

Most fun: Ancient Behemoth - Excellent everything. Feels great to smash those big stacks in one hit. Super easy to get unupgraded version. Even maneuvering limitation adds some fun compared to high speed flying guys.

Chaos Hydra - Very safe map cleaning because of high hp and defence of heroes and the unit itself. Feels great to use multi-attack vs neutrals. Easy to get the unupgraded version

Archangel - basically cheating, especially if you upgrade angels from conservatories. Feels very safe and gives max hero speed. Trivial to obtain them on rich maps.

Arch Devil - feels great to exploit hit and run. Very high speed. Surprisingly good survivability. Not too hard to get unupgraded ones.

Titan - hard to get but feels great to shoot stuff with them. Feels very safe to not lose any in a random battle. Considerable bonus fun for playing with the crappy giants until you manage to upgrade them.

Black dragon - awesome creature. Can't be killed because of high hp. Allows armageddon but has also good brute force stats. Getting reds is not impossible and reds can be resurrected since you get resurrection easily in dungeon. Also I feel that dungeon land gets more level 7 dwellings than would be normal. Combined with portal of summoning it gives a very nice stack of blacks. Double breath is fun.

Gold dragon - can't be ressurrected but doesn't have so high hitpoints that it can't die. So constant fear of losing one. Getting them is so freakin hard that fear of losing them is even bigger. The unupgraded ones die like ghost dragons so the fear of losing one is ... I love the double breath though. It has much more enjoyable animation than that of phoenix.

Ghost dragon - hard to get. Unupgraded one is like a wyvren on steroids. Very hesitant to use them to take retaliations. Aging is super sweet but unlikely to get it on right stack. Get's bonus fun points for being the crappiest level 7 though, because everyone thinks it sucks it's more fun to play with them.

Least fun: Phoenix - max speed. Double breath is sometimes fun but overall conflux is just the least pleasant town and phoenixis are not worth tolerating the other conflux things. Good for armageddon exploit but it get's boring really quick. Constant fear of losing one in a random battle.

A quick thought I'd like to share. From what I gather from my experience in this game, it appears that AI is absolutely terrified of attacking Chaos Hydras. Probably because of its multiple-headed attack, the AI does wisely not to even go near that creature. Sometimes however, it will have no choice, and some other times, this avoiding approach of the AI can be exploited nicely. For example, you can include just the hydras and maybe a few Dragon Flies in your army when battling neutral monsters. A hero with Tactics can do wonders in this case! Just group up your flies so that the enemy creatures will go after them and eventually become crowded. Don't worry about the AI going for the Hydras. Once they go for your flies, they group themselves up. You can cast Haste to outsmart the AI and get to them. Another nice tactic is to cast Counterstrike on Hydras and send them forward. If you have only Hydras in your army, yes they will get hit a few times, but the high defense and HP, plus the plausibly high defence skill and Armorer of your Beastmaster hero should render your Hydras relatively safe from harm. The AI is actually dumb enough to surround them, and the multiple retaliations and your own turn of attack will deal damage 2, 3, or perhaps even 4-5 times to a stack every turn. No, I'm not saying that this is a foolproof strategy that is a gamechanger, this doesn't always work, in fact, this is a very rare tactic, but nice to keep in the back of your mind. Usually though, you'll have more important spells to cast than Counterstrike. The above situation is a special case, but worth knowing of.

Does this make Chaos Hydras a better lvl7 stack? No. They are still at the lower end of the list, all I'm saying is that if a player knows plenty of small facts, for example that ]AI will likely refrain from attacking or getting close to Hydras, that will open up strategical sources for the player, if you are creative enough My point being, you never know when and what you'll need. A versatile player often exploits small tricks to make his life a little easier. Just the fact that you know this piece of information will improve your arsenal slightly, and increase your tenacity as a player.

Finally, a small addition that is most likely trivial to all of you, but let me say it just in case. How to fight correctly against Hydras? The AI doesn't know this method at all. My approach is that you need to have one or more powerstacks and several slow one-stacks. Ideally, you want to slow the Hydras, and wait with everyone. The slow cannon fodders are important, because they will go first after you waited with everyone. Hit one stack of Hydras with your one-stack, that takes away its retaliation, then use your turn to hit them with your powerstacks. Next round begins, get the hell out of there. Repeat until necessary. This approach is slow: you only deal damage every two turns, but you can avoid the multiple-headed attacks this way. Well, to be fair, this is pretty much how you deal with any strong neutral monsters, like when you have to defeat Throng of Scorpicores that are groupped together, you use the same tactic, I guess that's nothing new Well anyway, that's all folks

You have a few good points Keldorn.

That being said, it has been confirmed many times that the H3 AI (without mod/conq) is as smart as a lizard high on peanut butter.

@chaos Hydra: The AI trick doesn't work against impossible AI.

@Ghost Dragons: They are week, it's true. But the skeleton transformer can transform red/green dragons and hydras into bone dragons, which depending on the situation makes it possible to get a power stack of them.

@Gold Dragons: Please implode me, I am immune to resurretion. I simply hate them.

Well like I mentioned above, the AI got a IQ of -10.
And yeah, I too dislike gold dragons and to some extent, blackies. The blasted L2/L3 magi guild upgrades are a constant thorn in the side for me.

Gold and black dragons are great, is just that people here seems to think "whats the best monster in MY army".

When you battle against dragons, the fight is much harder than vs all others. They are great monsters to use against map/sections rush, as all others (-1) you can pass with cheesy blind.

Yeah, is not that dragons are trash but I've already managed to get angels day 7 in a MP game (the guy quited when saw them in tavern) while dragons you won't get them playing easy on your own (and angels/archangels are way better then dragons, btw).
